NEW MARITIME

In order to improve services for cruise

passengers, the Bilbao Port

Authori-ty has built, at a cost of 1.9 million

euros, a new 1,400-square-metre

maritime station, which has been in

operation since early September. The

building has several distinct areas

including luggage check-in, luggage

collection, waiting room, services and

a tourist offi ce.

The three main building materials used

are aluminium, steel and glass, all of

which are recyclable and reusable.

They also perfectly set the building

wi-thin its surroundings, where the Port of

Bilbao cruise terminal is located next to

a marina and Ereaga Beach in Getxo.

The Cruise Terminal is located only 15

kilometres from Bilbao in the town of

Ge-txo, one of the most important residential

areas in the north of Spain.

The Terminal lies next to magnifi cent

bea-ches and the Getxo Marina and provides

the visitor a wide tourist offer that

combi-nes tradition, nature, architecture, culture

and sport (golf) in addition to excellent

shopping facilities and gastronomy.

Bilbao is the heart of a great metropolis with over one million inhabitants. HIGH SAFETY AND SECURITY LEVELS

Perimeter fence (completely closed from car park entrance and reaching the water line at two points).

Line of bollards at fi rst access point – that is at the traffi c island nearest the Club de Remo (Rowing Club) – in order to prevent and regulate vehicle access to entry and exit lane from that point.

4 interior and three exterior TV cameras permanently connected to Security Centre Control.

Intrusion alarm connected to Security Centre Control. Public Address system.

Automatic fi re detection sensors in addition to 9 fi re extinguishers strategically placed throughout the different sections and emergency lights.

One permanent RAPISCAN 528 scanner and another mobile one installed in a van, which is kept at Santurtzi, and brought for cruise vessel calls.

Two permanent RAPISCAN 620 scanners installed at the Maritime Station. Two permanent METOR 200 walk-through metal detectors, and a third, kept at

Santurtzi and brought when considered necessary. Six hand-held METOR 28 metal detectors.
