Enterprise Ireland, The Industrial Development Authority, Shannon Development and the Federation of Aerospace Enterprises in Ireland are pleased to publish the latest edition of ‘Ireland’s Aerospace Industry Directory’.

Ireland’s aviation industry today compromises over 230 companies employing a highly skilled workforce. Aerospace in Ireland combines commercial airlines, air traffic and fleet management, manufacturing, international services and back office activities. It also embraces aircraft maintenance and overhaul centres specialising in airframes, aero engines, APUs landing gear, inventory and cabin interiors. Other dominant sectors include leasing and financial services, airports, research and development. Key competencies include testing, design, electronics, avionics, manufacture and supply of equipment and components as well as the provision of a wide range of consultancy, training, software development and validation, human resource and maintenance services.

Ireland meets the needs of airlines, manufacturers and other aviation corporations and investors seeking facilities and services for European and world markets. Ireland offers considerable advantages – a strategic location, a professional and technically sophisticated English speaking workforce and a first class sub supply network. Continuous research and development is supported by Irish government and European Union programmes.

Our organisations combine to provide a forum through which international aerospace companies can access their Irish counterparts either to source products or form profitable alliances. The skills, technologies and material capabilities within Irish companies enable them to provide world class aerospace products and to service the world’s aerospace markets at competitive prices. This expertise ensures that Ireland is identified as a truly global centre of aviation expertise.

shannOn develOpment

2009 marks the 50th anniversary of Shannon Development, Ireland’s only dedicated regional development company, which was originally set up by government to promote Shannon International Airport. The company pioneered several industrial and tourism innovations, such as the Shannon Free Zone, the world’s first duty free zone. Shannon Development also helped established Europe’s first US Customs pre-clearance service facility, now located at Shannon Airport.

Today, the Shannon Free Zone is a critically important regional economic hub. It is home to over 100 international companies, employing over c.7,000 workers, and generates over €3.5 billion in export sales annually across a range of internationally traded services and high-end manufacturing sectors.

With some of the leading names in world aviation based in Shannon, such as GECAS, Shannon Aerospace, Lufthansa Technik, Hamilton Sunstrand and others, aviation is one of the strongest activity clusters in the Shannon Free Zone. With over 30 companies engaged in various aspects of the aviation industry, Shannon can justly claim to be Ireland’s premier aviation investment location. Existing companies provide a critical mass of aviation activities and services in one location, generating spin-off opportunities including training and research, and a strong local talent pool of aeronautical skills and expertise.

Shannon Development strongly promotes the aviation cluster at Shannon, and is a key investment partner for existing company expansion and new projects locating here. With over 50 years experience, we continue to work with existing client companies and look forward to working with new companies who wish to locate in the Shannon aviation cluster.
