Unit 11: Computer Networks Assignment 3: P4 and P5

Developing a Computer network

In this task we developed a computer network in a group. We were 5 students with two laptops in one group. Here we used CMD (commands) where we connected all the laptops with ethernet cables to the switch and by pinging IP address by exchanging the IP

addresses.

In this practical we were supposed to share our computers with each other in the same group. As we know every device has its own IP address so we have to give our IP address first and then to connect with other laptop we have to type ping and the IP address of the other group.

After you type IP address you can easily see that you are connected with each other.

To create an account, open control panel. When you opened the control you will see all the items.

(2)

Once you are there, you can see user accounts. Click on the user account to make the account.

Here you can manage your accounts. Like password changing, remove your picture or change your picture. But you have to click on manage another account to create an account.

(3)

Now! The next step is you have to create five new folders on desktop, with the names of the person in your group. After you finish you have to right click on a folder to share disk. Once you click on share disk your disk should be shared. Click done for your next step.

Your next step is about sharing your folders with each other. Firstly, we shared with

(4)

Now share a copy of your file with other member in a group and click done once you finished.

Once you share your folders with everyone in your group you have completed sharing files with each other.

Health and Safety rules/issues to work in an ICT workshop

Health and safety in the work place is an issue for everyone. Every year thousands of people suffer accidents and ill-health. As we know health and safety is very important for

(6)

You cannot even imagine that using computers could be dangerous, but there are a few situations that can result in accidents….

Trailing Cables:

Computer equipment is often connected to lots of cables: power, network, etc.

If these cables are laying on the floor, they can cause people to trip over them.

Solution: Place cables inside cable ducts, or under the carpet/flooring.

Spilt Drinks or Food:

If any liquids are spilt on electrical equipment, such as a computer, it can result in damage to the

equipment, or an electric shock to the user. Solution: Keep drinks and food away from

computers.

Overloaded Power Sockets: Plugging too many power cables into a socket can result in the socket being overloaded, overheating and a fire starting.

Solution: Never plug too many cables into a socket. Always make

sure there are fire extinguishers nearby.

Heavy Objects Falling:

Many items of computer equipment are very heavy. Monitors, laser printers, etc. Heavy items can cause serious injury if they fall on people.

Unit 11: Assignment 3: M4 Zobia Ghouri

User Feedback: Jagmeet Kaur

1. Are you able to access and use the computer network?

Yes, I could access and use the computer network. Once the computer network set up then we have to access the internet by entering the password and user name. 2. Are you able to set access rights and set login restrictions?

We weren’t able to set access rights and set login restrictions at the beginning, but the lecturer helped us to set them up.

3. Do you have your own individual folder with full access rights? Yes, we do because we have to create folders to share the work.

(8)

Yes, I could access to at least six other user’s folders with different access rights. 5. Do you have a minimum of seven files on the network?

Yes, I do have minimum of seven files on the network. One is my folder, 5 other users and one shared folder.

6. Can you connect to the network printer?

No, we could not connect to the network printer because the college printer was not working properly.

7. Can you use a remote desktop?

Yes, we could use the remote desktop because we were able to see the folders.

Conclusion: Feedback which I received from Jagmeet I think that the network setup went good, except that the college did not give us a chance to share the printer. This was the only limitation that we had to face during the practical.

Unit 11: Computer Networks

Assignment 3: M4 Testing Computer Network

Test Method Expected Outcome Actual Outcome

Check Connectivity Of Workstation Check by using PING test.

Use office programs, anti-software program, applications, internet etc. Office programs, anti-software programs, applications, internet etc. can be used. User Login And Password User authentication to check user Login and Password are there.

User name and Login are there as

expected.

The administrator and the user accounts are working. Access To Personal Folder Check by user logging on and clicking onto personal folder.

Users will be able to access their personal folders without any problems.

Able to access the ‘Accounts’ folder in a shared folder with all of the files that I have created.

(9)

Access To Shared Folder The users logging on and click on personal folders.

Users will be able to access to their shared folders without any type of problems.

Able to access the personal folder through the shared folder. Check Connectivity To Printer Check the connection to printer by printing a document.

Printed papers. Same picture on the screen as it was on paper with test page.

Unit 11: Computer Networks Assignment 3: D3

Refining the Network What does refine mean?

Refine is to make something pure or improve something, especially by removing

unwantedmaterial.

Improvements based on the user feedback are to consider how the network could be improved. Improvement of access to the internet is setting up back up routines to support the protocol that set up. Adjusting the all shared settings so that the users can have full access to each other’s folders, and having the stored folders on a shared network location; setting up the printer to default printer. On the remote desktop all the desktop icons can be all crowded so the desktop icon could be limited.

How the Network meets the user requirements and review user requirements: Client’s requirements:

All users must be able to access and use the computer network.

Must able to add more users, changing access rights and setting login restrictions. All the users must have their own individual folder on the computer network with the full access rights.

Everyone should be able to access each other’s folders with different access rights. This should be configured for minimum six people.

All of the computers must be able to connect to the laser printer.

Computer network should make the use of remote desktop to allow users to take control of other computers in the network.

After the improvements have been made the network meets the client requirements above.

(10)

Improved the access to the internet to meet the requirement of being able to access and use the computer network by setting up back up routines to support the protocol for the network.

Improved setting login restrictions and access rights as users can have the access to their accounts through passwords and the users can set their own login restrictions with more secured passwords.

Set the folders for every users to have the same folder and tested with each user that they can access their own same folders. Improved the shared settings so that the users can have the full access to each other’s through the same settings for each user to have the same folder and then the test with each user that they have access to each other’s folders now. As the users have same folders it is possible that they also have same files, at least seven files, after testing, users have easy access to the files. Going into desktop devices settings, improved the connectivity to the laser printer by adjusting the settings to default.

At the end, improved the remote desktop requirements, as for each computer has the same protocol to be able to access onto different computer desktop.

All the requirements are improved after changing the internet, shared folders and printer faults. Regarding the important improvements, that there is not any internet access, that it was quite difficult to access the shared folders with full access rights and that the printer need to be set as default.
