In the Online Programme you will have the opportunity to complete rotations in fi ve of the following key areas of our business: Marketing, Product Development, Online Sportsbook, eGaming and Online Operations. At the end of your rotations, we work with you to decide which area of the business is the best fi t with your skillset and career ambitions.
Here’s a fl avour of what each of these areas do:
The Online Marketing Group is one of the fastest growing teams in Paddy Power. Covering all of our online products, they’re responsible for online acquisition – Sportsbook, Casino, Poker, Games and Bingo. We’ve developed and streamlined our processes to ensure our online presence is as good and eff ective as we can make it, through Affi liates, Pay Per Click, Search Engine Optimisation, Facebook and Display Advertising, but we wouldn’t be the world’s best online bookie if we thought we were done – and that’s why we want you! We’re looking for the brightest minds and the most innovative thinkers to help our quest for global domination.
Online Operations - Paddypower.com is made up of a number of diff erent departments. Each department is relatively independent but they all require the use of certain functions:
• Customer Registration – Enabling customers to play on all of our websites from Sportsbook to Bingo
• Customer Payments – Enabling deposits and withdrawals from the likes of PayPal and Debit Card on all platforms including our mobile apps
• Customer Security – Preventing fraud, bonus abuse, money laundering, etc. through the use of some of the most cutting edge technology in the business • Customer Experience – Having a good experience at paddypower.com doesn’t
happen by accident.
11
The Product Development Team in Paddy Power is responsible for product development for our Online Business units (eGaming) and the Dial-A-Bet operation. Our mandate is to enable our online business more eff ectively retail their products. This is achieved by delivering development projects which add features to our customer facing products and back offi ce systems.
Online Sportsbook was launched in Ireland in June 2000, with entry in to the UK in March 2001. Since then it’s gone from strength to strength and established itself as one of the Top 5 online bookmakers in the UK. We are now aiming for World domination, starting with Australia where we acquired a controlling stake in their biggest corporate bookmaker Sportsbet in Australia in 2010. Online Sportsbook has achieved this growth through focus on fairness to the punter, value and product innovation. Home of the Money Back Special, we have built a reputation as the punter’s pal, often paying out ‘unlucky’ losing punters or refunding when they’ve not had had a fair run. Our product off ering is second to none. We off er a wider range of markets than any of our competitors, and will price almost anything our customers ask for. We combine this with continuous product development, to ensure we always stay one step ahead.
MARK WALSH
Business and Politics (TCD)
When it came to applying for jobs, Paddy Pow
er was my fi rst choice. My time in Sportsbook was particularly memorable
, as it felt like I was working in a very cen tral
department of the business. I was working on the S
ocial Media team there. My role was essentially to produce engaging conten
t on the PP Twitter accounts and Facebook page .
This content was centred around spor
t and betting, but we had freedom to discuss any topics, if we felt they w
ould gain traction and engage our fans.
While I had to do some technical things, such as r
eporting, a lot of my job involved watching sport and t
weeting about it. Working in Sportsbook, and especially in S
ocial Media, meant I was often privy to some of the PR stun
t plans before they were launched. I’m struggling to think of a better w
ay to say that this was cool. So I’ll simply say it w
as cool. Sportsbook is a great department to work in – whether y
ou like sports or not – and I think any graduate should be e
xcited about having a rotation there.

Brand Marketing is new to our 2014 Graduate Programme and it will see successful candidates working in our new London Offi ce based in Euston. Graduates partaking on in this stream will be involved in rotations across Sportsbook Marketing, Media & PR.
The Brand team are responsible for delivering a plethora of memorable campaigns and events over the past two decades which have grabbed attention from around the world. As a team, they take fun very seriously! Our goal is to position betting as entertainment and to make betting with Paddy Power an all-encompassing experience that means a lot more than simply winning or losing money.
Sportsbook brand marketing – this is at the heart of the sports action, the Sportsbook brand marketing team design the future marketing plans for the company across our key sports of horse racing, football, tennis and golf. You’ll be involved in designing and creating the upcoming sports initiatives for Paddy Power. These can range in scale from that weekend’s golf off er on TV, radio and press, through to designing an initiative plan to capitalise on the betting opportunity of the football World Cup. What is the right strategy to attract people to bet with Paddy Power, what should the TV, radio and press advertising look like, and how can we ensure we cause a bit of mischief at the same time?
Media planning is all about providing context to the communications planning process. Who are we targeting, when do we want to reach them and how are we going to do it? The media function within Paddy Power has responsibility for managing the media agency, leading the adoption of technology and trends to deliver innovation to the advertising mix and lead deal negotiations with media owners to achieve best possible value for Paddy Power. As one of the biggest budget owners within the entire company there are also signifi cant budgetary responsibilities for the brand marketing function as a whole. Most importantly the media function plays a crucial role alongside the brand channel marketers, PR & Mischief in producing the brand communications plan for the business.
Paddy Power Graduate Programme 2014 14
At Public Relations, our role in the brand team is to create compelling stories that bring the Paddy Power brand to life – stories that entertain, amuse and surprise, stories that make people want to write about us, tweet about us, post about us or even just talk about us at the pub. Whether it’s courting the world’s most high-profi le media in Rome when the Pope resigns, engaging external stakeholders in a plan to tackle homophobia in football or creating insightful and entertaining odds around the week’s leading news and sport stories, PR at Paddy Power is always both varied and fast-moving. We also work very closely with Sportsbook brand marketing, Editorial and Social, Media and Mischief to help design and shape the campaign plans and stunts that deliver Paddy Power business outcomes and make the brand famous.

STEPHEN PLUMER
Management Studies (University of Nottingham)
I spent my second rotation working within the Br
and Team. An exciting prospect, as this is the team responsible for all the stun
ts, advertising and of course the lucky pants! Whilst the team is responsible f
or all the “cool” stuff , it also provides a g reat insight into marketing strategy and provides the oppor
tunity to get some hands on experience in a variety of areas.
I was lucky enough to work in Brand during Chelt enham, which is the equivalent to the Christmas Da
y of the betting calendar, except it lasts a week and you are too busy t
o sit down and eat turkey! In the build-up t
o this week I was in charge of developing, designing and running a micr
osite which would tie in to the advertising campaig
n during the festival. All of this within two weeks of joining the t
eam. Over my four months I worked on a variety of roles, but what I enjoyed most is that which I fi nished doing
, Print Marketing. I was responsible for scheduling, distributing and providing the creative input for all P
rint Media. As you can imagine, within a company lik
e Paddy Power, this allows you to have a lot of fun and the best bit is
seeing it in the newspaper the next da y.
