I am pleased to introduce the Business Management Qualifications Program on behalf of the UAE Academy. The business environment today requires a new wave of leaders who not only know what is required to excel in business but, most importantly, have applied this knowledge in a practical environment. This vocational program directly addresses this requirement.

In line with the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, the program will introduce participants to several specializations in business and thus contribute to a more diversified economy in the Emirate.

Furthermore, when the program is fully accredited by the UAE’s National Qualifications Authority (NQA), in line with their National Qualifications Framework (NQF), the qualification will be recognized at federal level, which enables participants to receive recognition for their achievements in all emirates.

The program’s additional BTEC qualification aligns with international standards. By leveraging both qualifications, participants will have a significant advantage over many of their peers.

I personally welcome all student who elect to join this program with the UAE Academy. Best wishes,

Mohamed H. Al Muhairi

Foreword from the CEO

Excellence in business management will help Abu Dhabi Emirate continue to be an economic driving force in the region. In fact, a recent study conducted by the UAE Academy indicated management capability as one of the most critical factors correlating to success among SMEs in the Emirate. Professionals are beginning to see the importance of strong management training and are seeking new avenues to receive such training. Today, several options are available to aspiring managers for academic training in business, primarily through BBA or MBA programs. However, these options are not ideal for everybody. While academic training covers theory and best practice, it is vocational training that offers the greatest opportunity for hands-on learning. To fill this need, the UAE Academy is proud to offer this Business Management Qualifications Program, which offers students the opportunity to learn business by practicing it.

At each level, qualification will be provided through both the UAE’s own NQA (approval pending) and the internationally recognized BTEC qualifying body.

We hope you enjoy this opportunity and hope this helps take your career to a whole new level. Best wishes,

Dr. Abdullah A. Abonamah

Introduction

The UAE Government launched an ambitious framework that gives special attention to future generations, known as UAE Vision 2021. In line with this vision the Emirate of Abu Dhabi developed its economic vision known as Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030. Based on this, the Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development (ADCED) has formulated a comprehensive economic strategy to fulfil the Emirate’s economic needs, achieve effective transformation of the Emirate’s economic base and bring about global integration and enduring benefits to all.

In response to these plans, the UAE Academy is offering BTEC qualifications in three specialisations – Management, HRM, and Marketing – with full accreditation by the National Qualification Authority (NQA) pending.

There are two main reasons to choose BTEC qualifications over other qualifications. First, they are recognized by a large number of companies across a wide range of industries. Secondly, they are developed in partnership with industry representatives so that all employer and student needs are met. In fact, many professional bodies offer exemptions to successful BTEC students for their own accredited qualifications.

What is BTEC?

BTEC stands for ‘Business and Technology Education Council’ UK, first introduced in 1984. BTEC is now awarded by the Edexcel exam board and courses are taken in more than 100 countries at all levels, from pre-GCSE to Degree equivalent. They are vocational and work-related courses, designed to accommodate the needs of employers and allow students to progress to further and higher education. BTEC, a respected institution for 25 years, takes a practical approach to learning, without missing any of the important theory on the subject.

What is NQA?

NQA stands for ‘National Qualifications Authority’. The role of the National Qualifications Authority (NQA) is to collaborate with related entities to establish and implement an internationally recognized qualifications system for the UAE, which includes a national qualifications framework.

The Authority reports directly to the UAE Cabinet. It has independent legal status and full legal capacity to act in accordance with the Decree. The NQA Board approved the qualifications framework for the United Arab Emirates (known as the NQA Qualifications Framework).

Step 3

Request for Placement

into Appropriate NQA Level Request for Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning Acceptance into Program

Step 1. Request for Placement into Appropriate NQA Level (Required)

In all cases, candidates must submit an application for the UAE Academy NQA program to which they are applying. In this application, candidates will select the NQA level to which they would like to apply.

To determine the level to which one should be placed, the candidate should refer to the diagram on the following page. Candidates will be considered for placement into the program to which they are applying at one level above the equivalent of their highest achievement in Higher Education, Vocational Education or General Education.

When moving between educational tracks (e.g., moving from Higher Education to Vocational Education), some ‘bridging’ courses may be required. This will be determined by the candidate’s Academic Advisor.

Additionally, equivalencies may be considered by the candidate’s Academic Advisor. For example, passing the GED Exam will be considered equivalent to achievement of NQA Level 4. Or, as another example, two years of Undergraduate University completion may be considered equivalent to achievement of NQA Level 5.

If the UAE Academy, in its review of the candidates’ application, determines that they are not eligible to be placed at the level to which they are applying, or are eligible for a higher level, they will notify the candidate and adjust the application with the candidate’s permission.

Overview of UAE Academy Recognition of Prior Achievement

Level Placement, RPL Points, Academic Credit Transfer and Exemptions

Applicants into UAE Academy NQA Programs can receive recognition for their prior achievements though the following process:

Step 2. Request for Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning (Optional)

If a candidate has earned academic credits or spent time in outcome-assured training courses, then he/she can apply to receive ‘RPL Points.’ These points, up to a limit and only for certain course types, can be used as credit towards completion of the program to which the candidate is applying.

For any particular program at the UAE Academy, RPL points must be applied for and used towards the first NQA Level that the candidate will attend. Furthermore, any courses or training considered for placement into an NQA Level (Step 1 of this Document), cannot be used to receive RPL Points.

The RPL application is included in the entry application for all UAE Academy NQA courses.

Exemptions and exceptions for level placement, RPL Points, and course exemptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis with the candidate’s academic advisor. The specifics, limitations and procedures for all recognition of prior achievement can be found in the full RPA guidelines and appropriate application form.
