1. Introduction

1.1. Purpose

This document provides a general overview of the Hotel TV 2 system and describes the functionality of the sub-systems that constitute the whole system.

1.2. General Overview

Hotel TV 2 is an IP based interactive in-room entertainment and communication system for hotel businesses. It enables hotel guests to access and enjoy Live TV broadcast from satellite, terrestrial, cable in both standard and high definition formats, video-on-demand, music-on-demand, a variety of interactive services.

It consists of several sub-systems and has a modular architecture and can be configured according to the desired features. DVB Server, VOD Server, Control Server, Administration Console and Client TV’s are the main components of the solution.

Figure 1 –A logical diagram of the Hotel TV solution.

DVB Server is a reception system that accepts live TV feed from a satellite, cable or terrestrial TV network and converts it to a number of unicast or multicast IP channels. VOD server is the component in the system that stores media files and then streams these files to the requesting clients which are in our case IP enabled TVs.

Interactive Hotel TV is an IP based interactive in-room entertainment and communication system for hotel businesses. It enables hotel guests to access and enjoy Live TV broadcast from satellite, terrestrial, cable in both standard and high definition formats, video-on-demand, music-on-demand, and a variety of interactive services.

The system provides the opportunity to select RF tuner and/ or IP streaming to watch TV channels.

IP streaming is performed via DVB-to-IP Gateways which have digital and analog input interfaces.

Triple RF tuner allows guests to enjoy terrestrial, cable and satellite channels.

Interactive Hotel TV system provides a dynamic and essential service management tool for the hotel personnel via administration console.
