“ This is what the Lord asks of you: to act justly,
to love tenderly and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8
My Soul Is Thirsting for You,
O Lord, My God
Jeremiah never wanted to be a prophet. In his suffering and anguish he wanted to abandon his prophet call. But God’s Word was like a fire burning in his heart, compelled to speak God’s Word. Just as we need water to live, our longing for God is innate. How do you experience the thirst for God?
O God , you are my God whom I seek; for you my flesh pines and
my soul thirst, like the earth, parched, lifeless and without water.
Thus, have I gazed toward you in the sanctuary to see your power and your glory, for your kindness is
a greater good than life; my lips shall glorify you.
Thus, will I bless you while I live; lifting up my hands, I will call
upon your name. As with the riches of a banquet shall my soul be satisfied, and with
exultant lips my mouth shall praise you.
You are my help, and in the shadows of your wings I shout for
joy.
My soul clings fast to you; your right hand upholds me.

On September 14, 2020, the dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass and Holy Days of Obligation will expire and it will be the responsibility of those who are capable and not prohibited by other
circumstances to attend Sunday Mass.
There are circumstances where the obligation cannot be fulfilled.
One example is the impossibility to attend Mass [like during COVID when public Masses were not allowed].
If a person is ill, especially during this pandemic, they should remain at home.
Likewise, if a person is at risk because of age, underlying medical conditions or a
compromised immune system, one would be excused from the
obligation.
If a person is caring for a sick person, even if they are not sick, they would be excused from the obligation out of charity.
It is up to each individual to weigh their own circumstances through an
examination of their conscience and determine, by use of their conscience, whether or not they are excused from the Sunday obligation. Remember, a well-formed conscience is upright and truthful.

Department Needs You
We are looking for adults to be Catechists for our Growing Faith program. It meets one Sunday per month from 11:00am-12:15pm starting September 27th. We will be beginning the year by meeting digitally over Zoom. We need adults to share their faith in grades K4 -11th. We already have your teaching partner, now all we need is you!! Contact Mike or Corinna if interested or with questions.
Due to the ongoing COVID 19 situation, it has been decided that the September 11, 2020 date for Good Shepherd to go to Repairers of the Breach in person will be canceled. In lieu of going in person and bringing the bag lunches, please consider making a monetary donation to Repairers. Chuck estimated that 10 lunches would cost approximately $20.00. If you are able to make a donation in that amount, it would be greatly appreciated. These are tough times and if you are not able to make a donation in that amount, please consider making a donation in any amount. And as always, pray for the homeless. God's blessings to you all and hopefully, we will be able to go in person for our next Friday date in November.

From Separation to Closeness
The first five books of the Bible speak today
A “google meet” adult offering presented by Dr. Dennis Sylva
The fundamental human drive is for closeness with God, others and our environment. As people await the results of the testing of vaccine candidates, many seek guidance on God’s acting through separations to bring about even greater degrees of closeness than previously experienced.
These online sessions begin on Thursday, September 10th and are at
10:30am. Cost is $25. Checks should be made payable to St. John Vianney with “Bible Study” on the memo line. Contact the St. John Vianney Christian formation office at 262-796-3944 to register and for more information.

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP
Pray for courage and the willingness to
“let go and let God.”
Do not grow weary. As we strive to
live Gospel-centered lives,
embodying the words of Jesus who is light and life, we can also become weary and disheartened by the barrage of injustices we are
exposed to on a daily basis with the news cycle. Another shooting, another takeover of a peaceful protest by looters and rioters, confused rhetoric among politicians, a pandemic and all the painful infrastructure failures it reveals. And yet, as St. Paul says in the letter to the Galatians: “So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up.” Truly easier said than done! For the long haul of supporting justice for all God’s people, sometimes we are in a state of action and other times we pray for the strength to endure. When in doubt, consider again what St. Paul offers: “Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving”, Colossians 4:2. To avoid burnout when the pursuit of right relationship with God in all things and for all people gets exhausting, trust also in the power of prayer.
