STEP 1:

ChooSE a CourSE and CamPuS

Read our course list and identify courses that are of interest to you. You may nominate up to two courses in the Application Form. Check the academic and English language requirements for entry into your selected course(s) at the Northern Sydney Institute. Most courses will require English language level of 5.5 Academic in the IELTS testing system (with no individual band lower than 5.0) or a TAFE NSW Certificate III in English for Further Study. Most diploma courses require completion of Year 12 or equivalent.

• For English and vocational courses or for vocational course only, please complete the TAFE NSW International Student Application Form for Vocational and English Language Courses.

• If you wish to study any of our TAFE NSW degrees, please complete the TAFE NSW Higher Education International Student Application Form.

• If you wish to study any of our Diploma to Degree (D2D) programs, please complete the TAFE NSW International Student Application Form for Vocational and English Language Courses.

STEP 3:

ComPlETE and SubmiT ThE aPPliCaTion

• Fill in your International Student Application Form. If you do not meet the required level of English for your course, nominate the starting date for your English course in your application form.

• You need to supply certified copies of your academic records. This includes passport, birth certificate and English language test result (if applicable). A certified copy is a duplicate of the original document which has been signed and dated by either your agent, a government official, Public Notary or Justice of the Peace confirming that they have sighted the original. Faxed versions of certified copies are not acceptable.

• Make sure that you read and sign the declaration acknowledging you have understood and agree to comply with the TAFE NSW Terms and Conditions.

• Applications to study at The Northern Sydney Institute are processed at a central location. Send the completed International Student Application Form to:

SteP 4:

receIve your offer

• Assuming you meet the entry criteria and provide the correct documents, you are sent a Letter of Offer for the course. It will come with an invoice statement advising fee payments and other charges including the Overseas Student Health Cover and an Administration Charge ($100 to $150). It will also include information about your student visa application and, if you have requested it, airport pick-up and accommodation fees. • Be patient. It may take up to a week during busy periods for the International Students Centre to process your application and respond to you.

SteP 5:

accePt your offer

• To accept the offer, pay the fees and charges listed on the invoice. Details of how to pay are included with your offer. • When your payment is received, you will be issued with an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) and the campus orientation details. • You use the CoE to apply to the Australian Embassy or Consulate offshore, or the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) in Australia, for your student visa which allows you to enter or stay in Australia.

SteP 6:

The Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) determines the criteria for the granting of student visas. TAFE NSW diploma and certificate courses fall under the Vocational Education and Training (subclass 572) and TAFE NSW Degrees fall under Higher Education (subclass 573). Refer to www.immi.gov.au/students/ students/chooser for more information or contact the Australian Consulate or Embassy. Note TAFE NSW operates on a semester system. There are two semesters per year – commencing February and July. Each semester

consists of 18 weeks teaching. Each semester of 18 weeks is made up of two terms of nine weeks. There is a two week break between each term. There is a midyear semester break for two weeks in July and a 10 week break from December to February.

TAFE

Degree Higher education degree programs are offered by the Northern Sydney Institute. You can directly apply to the TAFE degree program or choose to articulate on completion of your vocational course. The semester system for higher education degree programs operate differently to the vocational programs.

PACKAGE This means that the lower level qualification can be included in the offer letter and upon payment, students can receive Confirmation of Enrolments (CoEs) so that they can apply for a visa to cover the whole period of study.
