Communication Team Coordinator

The District is comprised of over 40,000 students and 3,500 employees in 89 schools and other sites.
Edmonton Catholic Schools requires a Communication Team Coordinator to oversee the delivery of effective communication services through a team of seven professionals. Although the focus of the work is the delivery of marketing and graphic design for our various departments and numerous schools, the job’s overall responsibility is to facilitate positive communications between the District and a wide-range of internal and external stakeholders including social media.
The incumbent informs the general public about educational choices available through the District schools. The job also coordinates graphic design requests to support the District’s mission, vision, goals and objectives.
This is a temporary,12 month, full-time, Out of Scope, Level 6 position with a salary range of $72,333.00 - $90,430.00 to commence December 1, 2015.
Note: This is a maternity leave position that will end upon return of incumbent. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

businesses to profile the good news about the great things that are happening in Edmonton Catholic Schools;

Assist schools and departments in fulfilling their community relations objectives; Provide consultative services and assist in the decision-making process to ensure the
needs of internal and external stakeholders are met. Qualifications:
Degree or diploma in an area related to communications, plus five years of directly related experience including managing corporate social media;
Strong knowledge of communication and public relations principles and practices; Knowledge of project management principles and a thorough understanding of the
mass media;
Advanced written and oral communication skills and the ability to relate to a range of stakeholders;
Proficiency in utilizing social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube; Ability to gather technical information on marketing ideas and implement
communication/marketing plans.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES: Normally a job has four to eight core responsibilities, each of which shows what the job is accountable for, within what framework, and what the added value is. 1. Design and monitor an effective communication network internally involving schools, students, staff, and parents and externally involving parishes, the media and businesses to profile the good news about the great things that are happening in the Edmonton Catholic Schools.
2. Coordinate initiatives designed to increase public awareness of District operations, services, focus programs and special events
3. Assist schools and departments in fulfilling their community relations objectives
4. Provide direction to staff for promotional materials, marketing strategies and special events
5. Provide consultative services and assist in the decision-making process to ensure the needs of internal and external stakeholders are met
6. Provide advice to staff to facilitate effective communications on web postings, marketing strategies and organization of information
7. Provide editing services to ensure that all communications are appropriately worded (both in grammar and in content)
8. Liaise with Facilities Services to provide updates and act as primary contact to ensure appropriate and consistent information management
9. Evaluate the success of various communication strategies and provide and implement recommendations for improvement.
10. Communicate and negotiate with promotional partners as needed for PR materials and marketing activities 11. Participate in department meetings and contribute to short- and long-term strategic planning

A wide-range of internal and external stakeholders are involved, so effective communication and problem solving skills are essential. This job requires the incumbent to be independent and self-motivated.

A wide-range of internal and external stakeholders are involved so effective communication and problem solving skills are essential. In this role you will inform the general public about ongoing construction at designated sites throughout the District’s 89 schools.
The incumbent responds to enquiries directed to the supervisor so that time is freed up allowing the supervisor to manage the issues facing the district.
The responsibilities and the role of this position impact the District as a whole. The job also indirectly impacts external stakeholders including Alberta Education, other school jurisdictions and the general public. The job provides guidance and expertise to staff in handling issues that are up-and-coming that affect schools.
