LPN TO RN CHALLENGE --- NURSING PRE-ENTRANCE EXAM

The TEAS V® -- TEST OF ESSENTIAL ACADEMIC SKILLS is the examination being utilized for entrance into the LPN to RN Challenge Nursing Program at Cumberland County College. This exam is a computer-based test that requires the following registration procedures:

To register for the exam, access the website - www.atitesting.com – click Register for Teas. If you do

not have an ATI account, you need to create one to view registration options. Test option ADN = Associates Degree Nursing is chosen for the LPN to RN program. Upon registration, the assessment fee of $86.00 is due, payable by VISA®, MasterCard®, American Express®, or Discover®. When registration is completed, you will receive a confirmation email. If you need assistance with the procedure or verification of your registration, please call ATI at 1-800-667-7531.

Please note:

Once you have registered to take the test, all fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

If you do not take the test on your registered date, you must reschedule with ATI and repay.

If no dates are available or registration is closed, you will forfeit your test session and fee. The TEAS V exam may be retaken after a 60-day waiting period.

The TEAS V exam cannot be taken more than 3 times annually. Test scores are valid for 2 years.

Registration for TEAS V -- LPN to RN Challenge will close 48 hours prior to exam date. Testing will be administered in the CASS Testing Center – 20 seats maximum 2015 Examination Dates and Testing Times:

Monday, July 20 9:30 am Wednesday, July 22 4:00 pm

Monday, August 10 9:30 am Wednesday, August 12 4:00 pm Monday, September 28 9:30 am Wednesday, September 30 4:00 pm

Check in time for the exam is 15 minutes prior to test time.

Please bring your ATI user name and password.

It is also required to show two forms of identification -- one must be a picture ID.

You will not be admitted without the proper documents.

You should also bring two No. 2 pencils with erasers. Scrap paper will be provided.

The test takes approximately 3 hours to complete. Please allow additional time for registration.

The activation period for students applying to LPN Challenge beginning Spring 2016 is July 1, 2015 to October 1, 2015. Applicants must submit all documents with activation.

In the event of severe weather and CCC is closed, this exam will be rescheduled. If this occurs, it will be student’s responsibility to call the college at 856.691-8600, X1300 to inquire as to the make-up date. Advanced Placement for Licensed Practical Nurses LPN Transition Option

A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), licensed in the state of New Jersey is eligible to enter the Registered Nurse (RN) Option at Cumberland County College, with advanced placement. Those LPN’s accepted into LPN to RN program and successfully completing the criteria will be awarded credits for Concepts in Nursing Practice I (NU 113) and will be entered into the second semester of the RN Program.

Admission Procedure:

The following information must be submitted in a completed packet July 1 - October 1 for consideration of admission to the LPN to RN Program:

 LPN to RN Activation Form

 Official High School transcript with date of graduation or GED scores

 Proof of current active LPN licensure

 An official LPN School Transcript

 Official transcripts from other colleges attended

 Completion of the ATI TEAS V admission test (results are valid for 2 years)

Admission Selection

Students will be accepted based on a scoring criterion. All program minimum requirements must be met in order to be considered for admission.

Minimum requirements

 High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate (GED)

 ATI TEAS V total score of 60% accepted for consideration; total score of 70% preferred.

 ATI TEAS V math score minimum of 60% or an earned C or better in a college math course

 ATI TEAS V verbal score minimum of 60% or an earned B or better in a college English 101

 Minimum overall GPA of 2.5

 Completion of all general education courses for the first semester of the Nursing program. (EN101, PY101 and BI106)

The co-requisite general education courses for the first semester of the Nursing program must be complete before admission is granted for the LPN Transition program. The courses that must be completed with a minimum of a C grade for consideration of the transition option are:

 EN 101- English Composition

 PY 101- General Psychology

 BI 106- Anatomy and Physiology I

Scoring Criteria

ATI TEAS V- maximum of 4 points

 90 or above overall score = 4 points

 89-80 overall score = 3 points

 79-70 overall score = 2 point

 68-69 overall score = 1 point

Completion of Bio 101/102 or Chem 101, If A& P 1 complete, that grade will be used maximum of 3 points

 GPA 3.5 and above = 3 points

 GPA 3.4-3.0 = 2 points

 GPA 2.5-2.9 = 1 point

Minimum score of 4 is needed for program admission. First choice goes to those students who earn the highest scores. Maximum of 7 points may be earned.

Students who retake any LAB SCIENCE course may retake the course once for consideration. Only one retake of any of the four (4) lab sciences courses is permitted. Students who retake two or more courses, the original grade is the one that will be submitted for consideration.

Admission Procedure for Graduates of CCC PN Academic Certificate Program

Students graduating with a 2.5 GPA or better from the CCC PN Academic Certificate program are exempt from taking the ATI TEAS V. ALL other criteria must be met. Students must apply to the LPN Transition within two (2) years of graduating in order to maintain exemption status.

The information mentioned above in the admissions procedure must be submitted by Oct 1st for consideration of

admission to the LPN Transition Option. Minimum requirements

 Overall GPA of 2.5 in CCC PN courses and college courses

 Successful completion of NU 112 over the Winter session

For all LPN to RN Transition Applicants

The co-requisite general education courses for the first semester of the Nursing program must be complete before admission is granted for the LPN transition program. The courses that must be completed for consideration of the transition option are:

 EN 101- English Composition

 PY 101- General Psychology

 BI 106- Anatomy and Physiology I

 A&P 1&11 must be taken within 10 years— if A&Ps are older than 10 years, student must take BI 210 Pathology.

 Copy of NJ LPN unencumbered license

Admission Selection

All program minimum requirements must be met in order to be considered for admission.

Provisional Admission is granted until successful completion of NU112. Candidates not successfully

completing NU112 with a C or better are not admitted to NU114. LPN license will allow 7 credits, waiving the need to take NU113.

To assure preparation for NU114 admitted students will be re-mediated on foundation skills from Nov-Jan until competence at NU114 level has been met. The Assistant Director of Nursing and the Lab Assistant will provide this resource during normal scheduled hours.

Acceptance Notification

Students will be notified of their conditional acceptance to the LPN transition option by Oct 15th of each year. An orientation will be scheduled for the students accepted to the LPN Transition Option.

Successful completion of the above will enable the student to enter into the second semester of the RN degree program.

Please be advised that the one credit Introduction to Nursing Success (NU 112) must be taken in the Winter session prior to NU114

LPN Transition Option sequence of courses

This program is in compliance with the New Jersey Articulation Model of Nursing Education (www.njcc.org/articulation). - Nursing and required courses must follow in sequence. - (*) These courses may be taken prior to admission into the Nursing Program.

- A grade of “C” or higher in all nursing and required courses is necessary for progression in the program. For nursing courses, a minimum grade of 78 is necessary to achieve a “C”.

- For progression in the program a passing grade of 90 is needed on the medical dosage calculation exam given in NU 113 and NU 210.
