In 2004, the Broadband Forum released the TR-069 spec

TR-069 defines a common communication mechanism between CPE & an ACS

Initially service providers used TR-069 to manage DSL & Ethernet gateways.

(29)

Local GUI of home networking devices too difficult for most subscribers

TR-069 offers subscribers cloud-based portal – accessible anywhere

Subscribers can access the portal from multiple screens

(30)

ClearAccess was the market leader in TR-069 device management with over 70 service provider customers

(telco, cable, FTTH)

-

Cox (4M broadband subscribers)

-

Rogers (2M broadband subscribers)

ClearAccess uniquely offered onsite as well as hosted deployments

-

Over 50 service providers were hosted

ClearAccess was the only TR-069 ACS provider that also licensed TR-069 CPE client software to enable

advanced functionality

-

Licensees included NETGEAR, Technicolor, Hitron, Actiontec, ZyXEL, etc.

Cisco & ClearAccess had a long standing partnership which in May of 2012 resulted in Cisco acquiring

ClearAccess (people & technology)

Cisco has rebranded the ClearAccess offering as Prime Home which resides under the Prime portfolio of
