THE COLLEGE
OverviewThe history of Mount Aloysius College (MAC) is rooted in the Religious Sisters of Mercy, a religious institute founded to provide educational, religious and social services to the less fortunate. Founded in 1853 as St. Aloysius Academy, the Junior College was founded in 1939, and the charter was later amended to include bachelors and masters degrees. Mount Aloysius College is one of the oldest Catholic Colleges in the United States and was one of the first in the region to become co- educational and it seeks to challenge students to grow in faith as well as intellect. Today, MAC is a private, comprehensive, and coeducational, institution serving approximately 1,300 full-time students and 1,200 part-time undergraduate, graduate, continuing education and dual enrollment students.

AcademicsMount Aloysius College is a student-centered and accommodating community, with a 13:1 student to faculty ratio and an average class size of 18 students. It was the first College in the region to be designated a Military Friendly School, continues to be named a “College of Distinction,” and it consistently ranks among the top regional colleges in the Northeast.
Mount Aloysius College offers over 70 undergraduate and graduate academic programs in Health Sciences and Nursing, Humanities, Education, Social Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences, Business Administration, and Pre-Professional Study. Mount Aloysius College also provides programmatic offerings at satellite campuses in the nearby cities of Altoona, Johnstown and DuBois, and it also has robust online programmatic offerings.
Mount Aloysius College is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSCHE) and holds special accreditations from Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN);); the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), which accredits Medical Assistant, Ultrasonography, and Surgical Technology; the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education (CCIE); the Commission of Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE); and the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS), which accredits Medical Laboratory Technician .
The Mount Aloysius College Mounties field 14 NCAA Division III varsity sports including baseball; softball; men’s and women’s basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer and tennis; and, women’s volleyball and bowling.
Location
Located in historic and scenic Cresson, Pennsylvania, the stunning Mount Aloysius College campus enjoys a perfect combination of proximity to the great outdoors and to city life. The pastoral, 193-acre campus offers direct access to many state parks and natural areas. The cities of Johnstown and Altoona are near the main campus, and Pittsburgh is only ninety minutes to the west. The cities add diverse cultural experiences as well as opportunities for internships and other forms of experiential learning to the campus’ other benefits.

LEADERSHIP
PresidentMr. Thomas P. Foley, J.D. was inaugurated August 1, 2010 as the 13th President of Mount Aloysius College. Since taking office he has welcomed four successive record-setting freshman classes and overseen four major campus construction projects. He is a summa cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College and Yale Law School. He is the author of over 100 journal, op-ed and magazine pieces, and previously served as a Cabinet member in Pennsylvania state government and as President of the United Way of Pennsylvania. President Foley is passionate about producing graduates who are critical thinkers and who are job-ready, technology-ready and community-ready.
Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs/Dean of the Faculty
Dr. Stephen J. Pugliese was appointed the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs/Dean of the Faculty in January of 2015. Dr. Pugliese came to Mount Aloysius College from Immaculata University (PA), where he served for 12 years in several academic, administrative and teaching roles. Most recently he was Vice President for Student Development and Undergraduate Enrollment. In addition to his breadth of experiences across many areas of higher education, his understanding of the Mount Aloysius mission, his work ethic and his leadership, Dr. Pugliese is an active speaker and presenter. He served as a peer evaluator for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and was a review committee member for the NCAA Colonial States Athletic Conference’s Five Year Study. He has presented on such diverse topics as academic leadership, the oversight of athletics, and the pervasiveness of technology in reported infractions of academic integrity and codes of student conduct.

SCHOOL OF NURSING
AcademicsAs of January 1, 2016, the Division of Nursing will become the School of Nursing. Currently, the Division of Nursing offers two programs: the Associate Degree Nursing program and the RN to BSN program.
The Associate of Science Degree in Nursing program provides an education to prepare graduates who are qualified to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for registered nurses. A blending of theory classes, campus laboratory and simulation experiences, seminars, and clinical agency experiences enable students to achieve established program and student learning outcomes. The general education and professional components of the curriculum are designed to provide graduates with knowledge, skills, and competencies to function effectively in acute, long-term, and community- based settings.
The RN to BSN program is designed to provide opportunities for graduates of Associate Degree and diploma nursing programs to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Mount Aloysius Associate Degree Nursing graduates are able to move seamlessly into the RN to BSN program. The Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing prepares graduates to provide professional nursing care in a variety of health care settings, apply to graduate school to continue their education, and serve as leaders within organizations and in society.

The PositionThe Founding Dean of the School of Nursing will lead the new Mount Aloysius College School of Nursing, developed from the College’s current Division of Nursing. S/he is a Senior Administrator of the College and will report to Dr. Stephen Pugliese. The Dean will provide strategic vision and leadership to the 17 faculty and staff members and oversee the areas of faculty recruitment, development and evaluation; fund- and friend- raising and community outreach/collaboration;
budget management and resource allocation; program and curriculum development/assessment; and regional, state and national accreditations.
Reporting directly to the Dean of the School of Nursing are Director of Evaluation and Planning, Program Director for RN- BSN, Program Director for Associates in Nursing, Simulation Technology Specialist, Simulation Laboratory Coordinator, and an Administrative Coordinator.
OPPORTUNITIES
Major opportunities for the Founding Dean of the School of Nursing include the following:
• Providing innovative and strategic leadership in the implementation of the transition from Nursing Division status to School of Nursing status;
• In concert with the SVPAA/Dean of Faculty and the Vice President of Enrollment/Dean of Admissions, maintaining and or growing enrollment in all of the nursing programs;
• Overseeing and coordinating off-campus and online nursing courses as well as on campus courses;
• Representing Mt. Aloysius College School of Nursing on campus and to the local community;
• Ensuring that nursing accreditation is maintained;
• Hiring and mentoring highly qualified nursing faculty;
• Overseeing and maintaining a balanced budget.

QUALIFICATIONS
The Mount Aloysius College leadership and community seek a Founding Dean of Nursing who is a visionary,
strategic thinker, an individual with high energy and unquestioned integrity. S/he will have:
• A doctorate (preferably a Ph.D. in Nursing or earned doctorate with a MSN) from an accredited institution;
• A minimum of 5 years of successful teaching at the College or University level;
• A minimum of 5 years of experience at the department chair, assistant dean, associate dean or dean level;
• Experience with nursing accreditation (ACEN);
• Licensure as a nurse in Pennsylvania or eligibility to be licensed in Pennsylvania;
• Strong interpersonal skills both oral and written;
• Experience in the areas of assessment, curriculum, strategic planning, faculty development and budgeting;
• Strong technology skills; and,
• A strong commitment to the Mission of Mount Aloysius College.
