This year the OSU 4-H Summer Conference was a combination of in-person fun activities and virtual workshops. The virtual part of the conference featured Keynote Speaker Juan Bendana and various lead-ership workshops. This year’s energetic group of delegates enjoyed local activities such as bowling and pizza at Campbell Cove Lanes, “A Day at the Beach” (Lofton Reservoir) and BBQ and yard games at the town park.

The record book deadline is quickly approaching!

Record books are due to the OSU Extension Office Friday, August 6th by 5:00 pm.

If you need assistance with your record book, please attend one of the scheduled record book workshops. During these workshops, you will learn how to assem-ble your record book, how to fill out your 4-H resume and work on your pictures and clippings pages.

Record Book Forms are on the Lake County 4-H

Web-site and State 4-H Youth Development Website.

Any exhibit that qualified for state fair in 2020 should to be brought to the Extension Office no later than July 16, 2021. Make sure to have an Explanation Card attached.

As we gear up for fair, we are seeking volunteers for the positions below. Thank you in advance for your consideration to assist during county fair! Preferred Deadline is Friday, August 27

All 4-H & FFA market livestock members are required to provide their own photo to the 4-H/FFA Market Sale Committee, which will be used for the buyer's cards.

These guidelines must be followed:

Photo Specifications:

• The photo is to be captured in a format that can be submitted electronically

The photo is to be taken in landscape orientation

• The photo is to be submitted in color (no added effects/words)

• The photo background should be “nice” (free of trash)

• The member's clothing is to reflect the clothing that would be worn in the show ring (pants, club shirt, closed-toe shoes, FFA official dress, etc.

• The project animal is to be “set up”

Submitting the Photo:

• Photos are to be submitted electronically (no printed photos will be accepted) to:

lakeco4hffamarketsale@gmail.com (if you do not

have email capability, find someone who can do this for you)

• The first and last name of the 4-H or FFA member must be in the subject line of the email, one email per member

• Preferred deadline to submit photos is Friday, Au-gust 27.

All photos must be submitted by Friday at noon

during County Fair. Members who choose not to meet this deadline will be subject to a fine of $100 being held from their sale check.

A familiar face to many— we would like to welcome Alyson to our 2021 Lake County 4-H Team as our OSU Extension Intern! Alyson will be spending the summer in our Lake County Extension Programs and will be a wonderful asset to our office due to her ties to our Lake County community, as well as her creativity and outstanding work ethic.

Alyson is pursuing a degree in Agricultural Science at Eastern Oregon University, with minors in Animal Science and Comparative International Agriculture. After college, she hopes to work in 4-H program de-velopment through university Extension.

Many 4-H members don’t always know of or under-stand the many opportunities available for 4-H mem-bers. As part of Alyson Yates’ Summer Internship, this meeting will inform members and parents of the many opportunities that are available to hone in leadership skills and network in our wonderful 4-H world.

Thank-yous should include the following:

• Reasonably legible handwriting (particularly for the names of the buyers and sellers)

• A minimum of four sentences, with some complexity, for In-termediate and Senior 4-H & FFA members.

• Thank-yous need to include the signed name of the member in the closing and the member's name printed underneath. Livestock Leaders: specific information regarding the

thank-you note process will be sent to you at a date closer to County Fair.
