“We get people back to work”

At some stage, every employer encounters the thorny and difficult issue of managing sickness absence. Companies need to identify the right course of action when dealing with job retention, short-term staff absences, or more serious long-term issues. There may be a lot of guidance and advice available in the public domain, but the reality of managing sickness absence is much more difficult than the theory. No two cases are the same and so each require an individually tailored employer response. It can be challenging for Human Resources practitioners and Line Managers to identify the correct approach, especially when trying to guess the mental, emotional and psychological impact that the illness is having on the employee.

Even large companies that utilise Occupational Health services can benefit from the direct intervention of a Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant. Occupational Health practitioners may not necessarily specialise in detailed return to work planning, whereas this is our primary focus. We can work with Occupational Health providers in the resolution of work place absenteeism and the engagement of employees who are currently off work.

We create bespoke return to work plans and provide ongoing case management that is mindful of both the concerns of the employee and the commercial needs of the employer.

“We were afraid of contacting Anna when she fell sick, we did not want her to think that we were pressurising her at a time when she was poorly. After a while, it became apparent that she took the lack of contact from us in a negative way and as a result the relationship has broken down. She has now been off work for almost 12 months and we are not sure how to deal with the situation.”

“Dealing with sickness absence is often a big puzzle and we struggle to put all the pieces together. We are unsure how to involve treating practitioners. Human Resources staff are not medically trained and we don’t really know how and when someone can be offered return to work support. Many HR practitioners are unsure how to liaise with GPs and how to engage them in the return to work process.”

» Benefits For The Employer:

Easy and immediate service access 5 days a week – no delays. No contractual obligations or subscriptions are required to access our services - just pick up the phone and give us a call when you need our help. We will take the pressure associated with sickness absence management from your HR Department and Line Managers by offering a speedy, professional and integrated sickness absence model.

» Benefits For The Employee:

It is often easier to talk to an impartial specialist who is not directly connected to the employer. A professional and empathetic approach when dealing with employees is part of our standard operating procedure. Employees invariably appreciate the ability to openly express their worries and concerns to an independent person.

» Benefits For Both, Employer And Employee:

All parties are actively involved in the process and every concern, however small, is taken into account. Our integrated approach ensures that both employee concerns and the business needs are considered when rehabilitation recommendations are provided. A professional vocational intervention can help rebuild communication and trust between the affected employee and their employer at a difficult time for both.

Considering the commercial needs of the employer equally alongside the needs of the employee ensures an outcome that is both successful and sustainable in the longer term.

“It is really hard to know when to expect the absent employee to be ready for work and what is the right thing to do when dealing with long-term sick employees. Sometimes we just get one sick note after another without any recommendations and before we know it, an employee is off work for months.”

We are trained, skilled and experienced in managing sickness absence and return to work planning.

“I knew that help was available from the Job Centre and other state Agencies, but I wanted a quick, professional resolution to this issue. Every passing week was a further expense to our business and so a fast response was more important to us than a free one.”

T.H, Managing Director, SME

SICKNESS ABSENCE COSTS UK COMPANIES BILLIONS EVERY YEAR.

HOW MUCH IS IT COSTING YOUR COMPANY?

The UK government has identified workplace absenteeism as a serious issue affecting British business and industry. General advice for employers is available via a number of state funded agencies. In contrast, our Sickness Absence Manager service is bespoke and tailored for the specific needs of the employer.

We provide a highly personalised, fast track response that is designed to achieve best possible return to work outcome.

We invite employers to contact us for a free initial consultation and to informally discuss cases. Our processes are speedy and efficient; we act within hours of receiving the referral. We are able to offer a vocational rehabilitation assessment and prepare a full comprehensive report in a matter of days. Any one of our three of our service options would be a highly cost effective alternative to what could otherwise be a lengthy stalemate and continued workplace absence.

The Fast Track Process Is Our Normal Service Standard
