Other Information

 Classes start at 9.10am and finish at 2.15pm.

 We ask that children finding their own way to OIS (ie not on buses) arrive between 9.05 and 9.10.

 Sessions are 9.10-10.40, 11am-12.30pm and 1.15-2.15.

 Please inform us of any learning (particularly literacy) or behaviour needs that our technology teachers need to be aware of.

Cell phones became quite an issue later in 2010 with Client Students. Cell phones are

not permitted at OIS. If for some reason a student needs to bring a phone it needs to

be handed into the school office on arrival, and collected before leaving OIS. Any phones found on students while at OIS will be confiscated (in line with our school policy). Parents/Caregivers will be able to collect the phones at the end of that week.

PLEASE COMMUNICATE THIS CLEARLY TO STUDENTS.

 ‘Bus books’ are a valuable way of communicating with technology teachers. Please note any student absences that you are aware of in this book, or ring our school office. Our office will make contact with you in regards to any absences not explained.

 Any students who are not returning to your school on the bus need to have a note with them in regards to who is picking them up at 2.15pm. Teachers are often in meetings after Client Tech sessions and are not available to supervise students staying late.

 On any particular day where you don’t have any children attending out technology programme (through illness, or other events happening) please make direct contact with the bus company yourself.

 Canteen. We have a canteen in operation that your children can use at Morning Tea time or to order their lunch from. Enclosed in this pack is a Canteen list. If children wish to order lunches please have them place their order in an envelope, clearly labelled

with their name and tech group (eg M1, R2) etc into the Technology Lunch order box

Client Schools Technology Programme in 2011

Since 2009 technology teachers have been involved in intensive professional development in the delivery of the Technology Curriculum in line with the Revised New Zealand Curriculum. The changes that we implemented in 2010 were viewed as positive for teaching and learning in

technology at OIS and will continue into 2011. Further changes this year are the timetable change with schools coming for a week (Mon-Thurs) each term, and the change in the Food/Fabric area. On reflection on the previous Food/Fabric programme it was felt that splitting this programme over the year, each year, meant that students received a ‘taster’ each year, but never fully developed ideas and skills in each area. Therefore in an effort to increase the benefits of each area, students will have two blocks of fabric in an odd year, and two blocks of food in an even year. We will look to review this at the end of 2012.

Our programme delivery continues with the emphasis on Technological Practice across all contexts:

The focus for each term will be:

 Term One: Brief Development

 Term Two: Planning for Practice

 Term Three: Outcome Development and Evaluation

 Term Four: The entire ‘Technological Practice’ process. These areas will be covered in the contexts of:
