Setting Up Your Account

n Log onto www.tccard.transitcenter.com.

n Click On “Create a Cardholder Account”.

Using the Card

n Use the Card to buy transit tickets and passes or to load value onto your transit smart card wherever Visa®debit cards are accepted—including at ticket vending machines, station windows and on the web.

n The Card can be used at locations that ONLY sell transit tickets and passes.

n To learn which transit operators accept the Card, go to www.transitcenter.com.

The TransitChek®Card, a prepaid Visa®card, is the first anonymous prepaid card designed specifically

for commuter benefits.The Card allows you to use your tax-free benefit to purchase your transit tickets or passes for subway, bus, train and/or ferry service, or to add value to your transit smart card wherever Visa®debit cards are acceped—including at ticket vending machines, station windows

and on the web. The Card is NOT a transit pass or ticket. It is intended to pay for a month’s commuting expense. To learn more about the available features and uses of the Card, please use this handy reference guide.

n Complete the online registration form.

n Enter your full address. Do not use abbreviations.

n You will receive an email to confirm your registration.You must respond to this email to activate your account.

Checking Card Balances

n To view balances and activity, enter the Card number under the “Card Activity” tab. Click “Submit”.

Transferring Funds

n To transfer funds from one TransitChek®Card to another TransitChek®Card, click on the “Transfer” tab.

(Each TransitChek®Card can hold up to $500).

n Enter the Card’s expiration date.

n Enter the Card’s CVV2 code (the last three digits of the number on the back of the Card).

n Enter the number of the TransitChek®Card you would like to transfer funds to

n Click “Submit” to confirm transfer.

Adding Value to Your Card

n To add value from a personal credit or debit card, click on the “Add Value” tab.

nEnter your TransitChek®Card number and click “Submit” to get started.

n Enter the amount to be added. (Each TransitChek®Card can hold up to $500.You can add value to a

single TransitChek®Card up to 3 times).

n Choose the payment card type.

n Enter your credit/debit card number.

n Enter the card’s expiration date.

n Enter the card’s CVV2 code (the last three digits of the number on the back of most cards), and click “Continue”.

n Click “Submit” to confirm payment to your TransitChek®Card.

Replacing Lost or Damaged Cards

n Only Cards that you have added value to from a personal credit or debit card (and not another

TransitChek®Card) can be replaced if lost.

n Damaged Cards will need to be returned along with a completed “TransitChek®Card Certification” form.

Station Windows

Long Island Rail Road accepts the Card at station windows.

When purchasing tickets or passes which exceed the value on your Card, you may pay the difference using a personal check or cash only.

Ticket Vending Machines

Follow onscreen instructions.

Choose “credit card” and follow instructions for the payment process. Take your monthly pass or ticket and keep your receipt.

For refunds, keep your Card until the rail ticket expires. Note: Not all commuter rail tickets are refundable. Refunds are made to the Card used for payment.

Purchasing Mail&Ride Tickets

IMPORTANT TICKET-BY-MAIL TIP! The TransitChek Voucher is the best option for

Ticket-by-Mail Programs. If you use the Card you will need to update your account with each month’s new Card number.

If the cost of your ticket exceeds your monthly transit benefit amount, you will need to pay the remainder.

To pay the difference you can either add value to your Card before the first of each

month or pay the difference by personal check by the 25th of the preceding month.

Updating Your Mail&Ride Account

On a monthly basis, you will need to update the payment information for your Mail&Ride account each time you receive a new Card.

Go online at www.mta.info or call 1.800.649.6969 to update your Mail&Ride account.
