GUARDIANS FOR VALUABLE SOULS
So valuable to heaven is the dignity of the human soul that every member of the human race has a guardian
angel from the moment the person begins to be. —St. Jerome
YÜÉÅ g{x ctáàÉÜËá Wxá~
"Red meat is awful. So drinks erode your stomach lin-ing. Chinese food is loaded with MSG. Vegetables can be disastrous, and none of us realizes the long-term harm caused by the germs in our drinking water.”"But there is one thing that is the most dangerous of all and we all have, or will, eat it. Can anyone here tell me what food it is that causes the most grief and suffering for years a er ea ng it?"
A 75-year-old man in the front row stood up and said, "Wedding cake"
#3 – A woman went to doctors the office. She was seen by one of the new doctors, but a er about 4 minutes in the examina on room, she burst out, screaming as she ran down the hall. An older doctor stopped and asked her what the problem was, and she explained. He had her sit down and relax in another room.
The older doctor marched back to the first and demand-ed, "What's the ma er with you? Mrs. Terry is 63 years old, she has four grown children and seven grandchildren, and you told her she was pregnant?"
The new doctor smiled smugly as he con nued to write on his clipboard.
"Cured her hiccups though, didn't it?"
#4 – A woman called Mount Sinai Hospital. She said "Mount Sinai Hospital? Hello, Darling. I'd like to talk with the person who gives the informa on about the pa ents. But I don't want to know if the pa ent is be er or doing like expected, or worse. I want all the informa on from top to bo om, from A to Z."
The voice on the other line said "Would you hold the line please, that's a very unusual request." Then a very authori-ta ve voice came on and said, "Are you the lady who is call-ing about one of the pa ents?"
She said: "Yes, darling! I'd like to know the informa on about Sarah Finkel in Room 302."
He said "Finkel. Finkel. Let me see. Farber, Feinberg -- Finkel. Oh yes, Mrs. Finkel is doing very well. In fact, she's had two full meals, her doctor says if she con nues improv-ing as she is, he is goimprov-ing to send her home Tuesday at twelve o'clock."
The woman said "Thank God! That's wonderful! She's going home at twelve o'clock! I'm so happy to hear that. That's wonderful news."
The guy on the other end says: "From your enthusiasm, I take it you must be one of the close family."
She said "What close family? I'm Sarah Finkel!! My doc-tor don't tell me nothing."
Fr. Murphy Dear Parishioners,
I men oned in my column last weekend that we have a savings account with the Diocese of St. Augus ne that we use for major capital expenses. The past week, unfortunately, the parish has been hit with some huge, unexpected expens-es. A water pipe underneath the pavement between the church and the Marian Hall broke. This was a painstaking process of removing the payment and trying to reach the loca on of the leak. In addi on to the repair bill, we will have to fork out money to have the pavement fixed. We had to do some repairs on an HVAC unit in the rectory that re-quired a reloca on of a drainage pipe. Then the pump to the pond fountain decided to go out. A ceiling leak appeared in one of the bathrooms in the rectory this week. Finally, light-ening damaged some of our technology at the rectory. So, its been quite costly. I ask you to consider a one- me dona on to help us offset these expenses. You are welcome to contact the office for more informa on.
Don’t forget that on Saturday, October 3rd @ 10 a.m. I will be holding an inquiry class for those thinking of becoming a member of the Catholic Church. This also includes bap zed Catholics who never finished their other sacraments, i.e., First Confession, First Communion and Confirma on. The mee ng will take place in the parish office. If you are inter-ested in this mee ng, please kindly contact my office and let me know that you are coming. Feel free to let your friends or family members know about this mee ng if they are wan ng to make the leap into the Church.
And now some funnies:
#1 - One day, a man walks into a den st's office and asks how much it will cost to extract wisdom teeth.
"Eighty dollars," the den st says.
"That's a ridiculous amount," the man says. "Isn't there a cheaper way?"
"Well," the den st says, "if you don't use an anesthe c, I can knock it down to $60."
"That's s ll too expensive," the man says. "Okay," says the den st. "If I save on anesthesia and simply rip the teeth out with a pair of pliers, I could get away with charging $20."
"Nope," moans the man, "it's s ll too much."
"Hmm," says the den st, scratching his head. "If I let one of my students do it for the experience, I suppose I could charge you just $10."
"Marvelous," says the man, "book my wife for next Tues-day!"
#2 – A die an was once addressing a large audience in Chi-cago. "The material we put into our stomachs is enough to have killed most of us si ng here, years ago.”

FAMILIAR INSIGHTS
Spiritual teachers tend to repeat themselves, and to repeat other teachers. Maybe there really aren’t that many different truths to tell. Just a lot of slow, sleepy human beings—like us—who need to hear the basics over and over. Consider today’s readings. People complain God isn’t “fair,” and Ezekiel answers that God is more than fair. People choose their own fates, and people can change. Even evildoers can turn, do right, and live. “Actions speak louder than words.” A fresh new insight? Hardly. Paul tells the Philippians that he would truly be encouraged if those who claimed to be believers would, in fact, look to others’ interests and not their own. “The proof of the pudding is in the eating.” A novel idea? I don’t think so.In Jesus’ story of the farmer and his sons, everyone knows that the one who said he wouldn’t work—but did—is way ahead of the one who said he would work—but didn’t. “Talk is cheap.” Heard that before?

DIVINE MERCY CENACLE
This prayer & study group uses the Diary of St. Faus na, The Bible, and Catechism to experience a deeper understanding our Catholic faith.
We meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month. There is a morning or evening class covering the same discussions at 9:45 AM or 7 PM. Everyone is welcome. DIVINE MERCY SAID: "Write, speak of My mercy. Tell souls where they are to look for solace; that is, in the Tribunal of Mercy [Sacrament of Reconciliation]. There the greatest miracles take place [and] are incessantly repeated. To avail oneself of this miracle, it is not necessary to go on a great pilgrimage or to carry out some external ceremony; it suffices to come with faith to the feet of My representative and to reveal to him one's misery, and the miracle of Divine Mercy will be fully demonstrated. Were a soul like a decaying corpse so that from a human standpoint, there would be no [hope of] restoration and every-thing would already be lost, it is not so with God. The miracle of Divine Mercy restores that soul in full. Oh, how miserable are those who do not take ad-vantage of the miracle of God's mercy! You will call out in vain, but it will be too late." (St. Faustina Diary, 1448)

SAINT THÉRÈSE OF THE CHILD JESUS (1873-1897) October 1
“The cornerstone’s dated 1872, but the stained glass is much later,” explained the pastor, astonished when his visitor accurately dated it to just before the Great De-pression, explaining, “The window for the Little Flow-er”—Thérèse’s nickname—“gives it away.” From her canonization in 1925, her statues and windows adorn most churches where European immigrants worshiped. Entering Carmel at fifteen, victim of tuberculosis at twenty-four, Thérèse proposed her “Little Way” to sanctity: doing ordi-nary tasks with extraordiordi-nary love. Thus ordiordi-nary Catholics, many of whom had lost loved ones to tuberculosis, embraced her. Though she never left her cloister, this Carmelite’s spiritual communion and devoted correspondence with missionaries earned her the title Patroness of Mis-sions. Her autobiography, Story of a Soul, continuously in print since her death, chronicles her prayerful perseverance through doubt and caused her to be the youngest person ever named a Doctor of the Church. Count-less physical healings and spiritual conversions testify to her fulfillment of her deathbed promise: “After my death, I will let fall a shower of roses. I will spend my heaven doing good upon earth!”
