Back to full time learning

Students have returned successfully to full time face to face teaching and learning. Transitioning into learning at home and then back again wasn’t easy, however the resilience of our students has

contributed to their success. Dedication and hard work of our staff, along with commitment of

parents and carers have been the other contributing factors. Well done everyone – I am proud of you all. The NSW Department of Education has adopted a revised approach to student assessment and

reporting for Semester 1 2020 to reflect the current teaching and learning environment. The revised approach ensures families are provided information about student progress and achievement, however in a more flexible way. Semester 1 student reports will be sent home in Week 1 Term 3. You will receive a modified written report for your child that

encapsulates progress and achievement of the learning provided both at school and at home, as well as guidance going forward. In addition, during Term 3 students and parents/carers will be invited to participate in three-way student-led conferences with their teacher.

Burwood Council Carpark Closure

I have only recently been informed that Burwood Council will be closing the Council Library carpark on Monday, 15 June 2020 for about three weeks, depending on weather. It will become a construction compound to enable the works in the carpark, library and Hornsey Lane to be completed.

In the meantime, Council has agreed to allow for traffic circulation only (no parking or kiss and ride) through the carpark during our peak drop-off times

of 8.30-9.30am and 2.30-3.30pm. Please note that the carpark will not be available to the public at any other times.

Expressions of Interest Kindergarten 2021 We are now taking Expressions of Interest from families with a child due to start Kindergarten in 2021. Families that reside within the catchment can complete an Expression of Interest . Please email Ms Natalie at burwood-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au to have the documents sent to you.

WE ARE SAFE WWW.BURWOOD-P.SCHOOL.NSW.EDU.AU Mrs Hensley’s Year 6 class acknowledged reconciliation week. Reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians.

Students had the opportunity to write their own welcome to country, showcasing the deep learning they had undertaken about our First Nations people and their ongoing commitment to continue to work towards a fully reconciled country.

Burwood Public School would like to acknowledge and honour the traditional

custodians of this land, the Wangal people of the Eora nation and pay our respects to all

Indigenous peoples of the past, the present and of the future. We recognise that this land is traditional Aboriginal land. It always has been and always will be.

Since the first time we recognised each other, we have learnt much about each other’s history, culture and traditions. We would like to thank the Aboriginal people for granting us this land upon which this school is built, now known as Burwood Public School. This has given an opportunity for many to be educated and grow into successful young adults. We will strive to ensure that Aboriginal people will always have a place here to learn, grow and share their culture - the longest living culture in the world.

We promise to continue to make amends for the injustices shown to your people and commit to work towards improved reconciliation. We show respect and will always come together in friendship and peace.

P&C Activities

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the usual P&C Association activities are on hold for now.

Development of Burwood Plaza Site

There is currently a Development Application with Burwood Council for a much larger building on the site of Burwood Plaza and the building next to Burwood Library car park (Centrelink). The proposal is to build 1,100 new apartments, and go up to 144m high. This will shadow the school somewhat in summer, and will create more traffic and public transport congestion. You can find details at https://

Uniform Shop

The uniform shop is not open for parents and carers. The only way to purchase a new uniform is by completing an order form and putting the cash payment in an envelope. The money and the form are to be placed in the red tin in the office.

Lost Property

Lost property is an ongoing problem here at Burwood Public School. Please label all items with your child’s full name. Please use labels and permanent laundry markers. Labelled items are returned to students. Unlabelled items which are not school uniform are taken to clothing bins at the end of each term. This includes lunch items as well.
