Introduction
LTE (Long Term Evolution) or
the E-UTRAN (Evolved Universal Terrestrial Access Network) is the access part of the Evolved Packet System (EPS).
The following are the main
objectives for LTE:
• Increased downlink and uplink
peak data rates.
• Scalable bandwidth
• Improved spectral efficiency • All IP network
• A standard’s based interface
that can support a multitude of user types.

The test shall be performed in 2 Methodologies; Static & Mobility. • Static Test:
The objective of this test is to check if there's swapped feeders and
if the Radio Units and Antennae are radiating as supposed to be & PCI should be as planned.
• Testing Steps: using FTP Server
1. UDP DL Throughput Test
2. FTP DL & UL Throughput Test
3. Latency Test (RTT time)
• The same test shall be done in 3 positions for each cell.
•. Excellent: DL_RSRP ≥ -80dBm
•. Average: -90dBm ≤ DL_RSRP < -80dBm •. Poor: -100dBm ≤ DL_RSRP < -90dBm
•. Logfiles must be recorded & Snapshot must be taken.
DT Methodology
• Mobility Test (Coverage):
• The objective of this test is to check the Intra/Inter HO, and the
homogeneity of the signal,
• The test is done by driving all the roads around the sites in 3 modes: (Idle,
Dedicated DL, Dedicated UL)
1. Idle Mode:
• Just plugging in the data card and make sure it is camped on LTE without doing any kind of browsing or download.
◦ On TEMS you should monitor the map and the radio levels ( RSRP, RSRQ, SINR, PCI) >>> windows on TEMS : LTE Serving /Neighbor Cell.
2. Dedicated Mode DL:
• Using the FTP client application (FileZilla), run multiple DL sessions for big files continuously and cover the same roads of Idle Mode.
3. Dedicated Mode UL:
• Using the FTP client application (FileZilla), run multiple UL sessions for big files continuously and cover the same roads of Idle Mode.

DT Methodology
• Static Test:
• At the best radio condition will perform 5 times of each of
the following tests:
1. UDP DL Throughput Test
2. FTP DL & UL Throughput Test
3. Latency Test (RTT time)
• Mobility Test:
• Check the intra cell HO in dedicated mode 5 times
clockwise & anti-clockwise.
• Check the inter cell HO in dedicated mode for one
neighbor per cell and vice versa.
DT Methodology
• Idle Mode:
• Just plugging in the data card and make sure it is camped
on LTE without doing any kind of browsing or download.
• Drive all the roads within the cluster borders.
• Monitor the signal behavior while driving through the
on-air and off-on-air sites.
• Dedicated Mode:
• Using the FTP client application (FileZilla), run multiple DL
sessions for big files continuously.
• Drive all the roads within the cluster borders.
• Monitor the signal & DL throughput behavior while driving
through the on-air and off-air sites.

Summary
• The drive test results are encouraging the throughput of the
LTE radio cell in different conditions.
• Based on the results the LTE network will be optimized, and
new cell will be planned.
• Notes:
• This document is made to outline the process of the LTE drive test.
• The report forms and the needed information of the FTP & UDP server shall be provided to the drive tester.
• There are more types of testing can be done according to the added features and parameters to the network such as CSFB and others.
