Freedom of Information request 162-13

I would like to submit a Freedom of Information Request relating to specific a ICT contract(s) for Servers which may include:

· Server Hardware

· Server Licensing (Software) · Server Storage

For each of the types of ICT contract above can you please send me the following data types:

RESPONSE

Contract 1 – Windows Environment Question 1

The contract title is Virtualisation Programme but this was provided via existing framework contracts rather than ITT.

British Transport Police use a mixed environment of Windows Server 2003 R2 and Windows Server 2008.

£794,382. This includes Annual Service & Maintenance costs. Question 9

Contract 2 – UNIX Environment Question 1

There are 2,500 users. Question 5

There are 18 servers. Question 7

There are no virtualised UNIX servers – all are physical servers. Question 8

Hardware is purchased on an as and when required basis so a contract value can not be determined. The software is installed by the company supplying the software application, therefore contract value, duration and expiry dates vary for each application are all specific for need which varies considerably.

In relation to server storage British Transport Police uses a number of different solutions which is spread across a range of devices and contracts. Please find the information relating to server storage below.

Contract 3 – Primary Storage Question 1

The contract title is SAN Storage. However, this was provided via existing framework contracts rather than ITT.

There are three SANs in total, two of which are 66Tb a smaller unit of 10Tb. Question 7

The SANs are a strategic part of the Force Infrastructure and will be extended as required by growth in data/systems to ensure commonality of systems.

Additional storage will be purchased via applicable framework contracts therefore there is no defined contract period for this.

Primary storage

Contract 4 – Legacy Storage Question 1

The contract has expired and the HP equipment is now considered to be legacy equipment but still in use. The equipment was provided via existing framework contracts rather than ITT. The devices are now used for specific force-wide applications (such s e-Mail) that are not managed via the central SAN (see above).

Primary storage

Contract 5 – UNIX Environment Storage

The following questions have been answered in the format requested. However, the storage used in the UNIX environment is not contract based as there are no stand alone SANs or NAS devices. All UNIX storage is directly attached to the servers (see above) and was therefore procured, and is part of, the Q Associates contract as outlined above.
