6. Key Responsibilities
▪ Acts under the direction of the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) to provide safe and competent nursing care in the clinical area to which he/she is assigned.
▪ To work collaboratively with other health team members in the delivery of care.
▪ To accurately, clearly and promptly communicate to the NUM all aspects of patient care, changes to staff/patient needs or potential/actual hazards to a safe working environment according to stated policies and ethico-legal standards.
▪ To accurately, legibly and promptly document such information and activities in appropriate records according to the stated policies and legal standards.
▪ To become familiar with available resources and equipment, learning to effectively, safely and efficiently use and maintain those available resources and equipment promptly reporting problems of supply/function to the NUM.
▪ To uphold the agreed standards of the profession and demonstrate accountability in his/her professional role.
▪ Participates actively in the professional and personal development.
▪ Participates in professional activities.
▪ To be familiar with and adhere to stated hospital policies and nursing procedures contributing to the maintenance of a high standard of patient/resident care.

▪ To promote and support the health, well being and informed decision making of the patient/ residents in the provision of care.
▪ To be familiar with and practice safety and emergency procedures at all times.

▪ To act responsibly in terms of the environmental impact of practice and resource usage. Responsibility to demonstrate an understanding of the manual handling requirements of the
position, which are:
Patient transfers with co-operative and unco-operative patients/residents Repositioning of patients for comfort and nutrition and other care Use of lifting machines
Use of PAT slide/slide sheets, and other movement assist devices. Pushing of wheelchairs and trolleys and relocating furniture. Note: These duties can make up to 80% of the shift

Falls (online) Note:
The Registered Nurse Division 2 is not required to function as a sole practitioner in complex and unstable clinical situations, or beyond his/her level of competence and education, but may assist the Registered Nurse Division 1 with patient care in these areas when required.
