dous development. UIIN was founded in 2012 as a resource platform with more than 3000 available resources on university-industry interaction. Not long after the launch of the platform, however, it became clear that the users were looking for a more personal and especially more dynamic network driving the topics of university-industry interaction, entre-preneurial universities and collaborative inno-vation. Aiming to address these needs, UIIN has grown in the past years from a resource platform to a network that incorporates a wide range of initiatives to stimulate, support and foster university-industry interaction in the broadest sense.

As we believe that communication as well as rewarding those making a contribution to the

field are key elements of a network, we created

the University-Industry Innovation Magazine

(UIIM) as well as the UIIN Award as the first

two initiatives following the resource platform. In addition, however, we also started with the

planning of the first UIIN conference. Acknowl -edging that university-industry interaction is not only about people and relationships, but also driven by an open exchange of ideas,

concepts and thoughts, we hosted our first

conference in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in May 2013. The conference was a great success with 338 participants from 48 countries, which made it the largest European event on the

Closely linked, but not limited to the outcomes of the conference, we have also extended our publication activities. Besides conference proceedings and the University-Industry Inno-vation Magazine, we also published more than 40 Good Practice Case Studies, 14 country reports on the state of University-Business Cooperation as well as a video series.

More recently, we have also broadened our involvement in European and national funding projects by launching UIIN Gateway, a concept and service portfolio supporting consortia in the challenge of implementing professional dissemination, exploitation and sustainability activities.

It has been a great pleasure to build up UIIN in the last years and to see the enormous interest in the network and its activities. We would like to thank all our members, event partici-pants and partners who are so passionate about university-industry interaction for their commitment and contribution to UIIN. This passion drives university-industry interaction and UIIN, and is the basis for our motivation to move forward and broaden our activities to make a true impact.

ABOUT UIIN

The University Industry Innovation Network, short UIIN, is a dynamic network aiming to exploit the full value of collaboration and cooperation, ulti-mately making an impact to academia, business and society. The network was founded in 2012 as

a spin-off of the Science-to-Business Marketing

Research Centre in Germany and brings together academics, practitioners and business profes-sionals focused on establishing and improving relationships between Higher Education Institu-tions (HEIs) and industry. With more than 170 members UIIN has advanced to a leading European network dedicated to fostering support structures for university-industry interaction, entrepreneurial universities and collaborative innovation. Members of UIIN include HEI managers (e.g. rectors, vice chancellors), intermediary representatives (e.g.

from technology transfer offices, incubators and science parks), researchers from various fields,

business professionals (e.g. innovation managers and top management) as well as policy makers.
