International Students

UCSB's international students come from nearly 70 different countries. The top ten originating countries are: 1. People's Republic of China (15%) 6. Mexico (4%)

2. India (13%) 7. Hong Kong (3%) 3. Taiwan (12%) 8. Canada (3%) 4. South Korea (11%) 9. Turkey (3%) 5. Japan (6%) 10. Germany (3%)

School of Origin

Of new undergraduates 74% entered as freshmen, while 26% transferred in at a higher class level. Eighty-six percent of new freshmen students entered UCSB from public high schools; 13% graduated from private high schools. The majority of transfer students came from community colleges (94%), nearly a third of transfer students came from Santa Barbara City College alone (30%). Other transfer students came from other University of California campuses (3%), the California State University system (1%), and other colleges (2%).

Age of Students

The mean age of both male and female undergraduates is 21 years. The graduate student mean age is 29, with the women averaging approximately 1 year older than the men.

Sixty-eight percent of UCSB students received some form of financial aid through the university, including 64% of all undergraduates and 97% of all graduate students.
