Windows 7 and Open Text Connectivity Solutions: Simplifies Daily
Tasks
Developed to meet the highest standard, the new Open Text Connectivity
solutions offer an enhanced user experience by supporting new Windows 7
features such as: Jump Lists in the Start Menu and the taskbar, Multiple
Document Preview, Windows Touch and Multi-touch capabilities, and
customizable toolbars.
Taskbar and Start Menu Jump List
In today’s fast-paced business world you need quick
access to the information and data required to complete
your day-to-day tasks. With Windows 7 and the new
Open Text Connectivity solutions (such as Exceed and
HostExplorer), the items you use most often are kept
right in front of you. Frequently performed tasks and
recently opened connection profiles are close at hand.
Just right-click the taskbar icon or follow the Start menu
to enter a new world of productivity.
Multiple Document Preview
Are you lost in the jungle of open applications? Windows 7 brings you an
improved taskbar that supports Multiple Document Preview, a feature designed
for users just like you. Hover over the Open Text HostExplorer icons and
thumbnails of every open session appear. Now common tasks are just a click
away. The Multiple Document Preview feature eliminates the guesswork and
reduces the time spent switching between applications and open sessions.
Windows Touch
Windows 7 allows you to interact directly with your applications if you have a
touch-screen monitor. And to further enrich this interaction, Windows 7 also
supports multi-touch technology where you can manipulate applications and
content using multiple finger gestures. Open Text Connectivity solutions further
extend the reach of this more natural workflow to X window applications, and
business applications on legacy hosts.
Citrix Ready
With the support of Citrix solutions dated back to Citrix WinFrame, Open Text

Network Security
FIPS 140-2 Validation
You take security seriously and so do we, that is why we are validating
1the Open
Text Cryptographic Module against the FIPS 140-2 standard.
What is FIPS 140-2?
FIPS 140-2 is a standard established by NIST (National Institute of Standards
and Technology) and CSE (Communications Security Establishment Canada).
FIPS 140-2 pertains to cryptographic modules in software or hardware products.
FIPS 140-2 is one of many security programs overseen by NIST and CSE which
focuses on working with government and industries to establish more secure
systems and networks by developing, managing and promoting security
assessment tools, techniques, services, and supporting programs for testing,
evaluation and validation.
To whom does FIPS 140-2 validation matter?
All US Federal Government departments or agencies are mandated to purchase
and use cryptographic products meeting the FIPS 140-2 standard to protect their
unclassified, but sensitive data. The Canadian Communications Security
Establishment encourages Canadian Government departments to use products
with FIPS 140-2 certified cryptographic modules.
Private sector companies in North America, Europe and Asia have started
expressing interest for purchasing software that are FIPS 140-2 certified. It is
expected that FIPS 140- 2 will gain wider acceptance outside of the US
government in the future.
1
Open Text Cryptographic Module has passed the test conducted by an
independent lab. Currently, it is pending final approval from NIST.
Which Open Text Connectivity products offer FIPS 140-2 validated
1cryptography?
All products that contain encryption are impacted by the FIPS 140-2 standard. In
order to facilitate its FIPS 140-2 certification effort, the Open Text Connectivity
Solutions Group has created the
Open Text Cryptographic Module
. This
module, which is part of the default product install, contains all the necessary
encryption algorithms and authentication methods that are required to perform
secured connections. Open Text Cryptographic Module is available in both 32
and 64-bit, which are both validated.
The cryptographic module is used in the following products:

Introducing HostExplorer Web-to-host
Open Text HostExplorer 14 offers a real web-to-host solution to customers who
are searching for a no-manual-installation, centrally managed, full-featured
terminal emulation product that could be accessed from a browser by
zero-privileged users with minimal administrative intervention.
HostExplorer Web-to-host offers a variety of benefits that appeal both to the
business needs and the technical requirements of any organization:
Reduced license acquisition and license management costs
Better control over license compliance
Increased availability of IT staff for strategic projects thanks to shorter
deployment time and reduced administrative overhead
Improved security for both user access control and network traffic
Standardization of terminal services across all potential users: local
users, remote users, mobile users, casual users and third parties
Ability to virtualize the user desktop by moving the emulation services to
a central web-based location
In the heart of this solution is the new Open Text Web-to-host and Deployment
Wizard. This Windows-based wizard application can guide you through the
process of creating a web-to-host installation package of HostExplorer.
HostExplorer Web-to-host distinguishes itself from other solutions when it comes
to costs. Its main advantages are:
No need to purchase new licenses: HostExplorer Web-to-host and
HostExplorer desktop are covered under the same license
Reduced hardware requirements: by re-using existing enterprise servers,
HostExplorer Web-to-host diminishes acquisition costs
Reduced learning curve: users of the HostExplorer desktop client will
automatically know how to use HostExplorer Web-to-host without additional
training because they have the same features, performance, settings, macros
support, and user Interface
Reduced administrative overhead: same settings and administrative tools for
both HostExplorer Web-to-host and the HostExplorer desktop client.
Eliminates redundant infrastructure: does not require download, install, and
subsequently manage a Java virtual machine on each desktop
Increased productivity: a number of productivity tools that are included with
HostExplorer will let users perform routine and repetitive tasks in less time
