Overview

The StageNow solution targets customers’ need for a software tool that allows out of the box device Staging and configuration. Essentially, the process by which an EMC device is configured and desired firmware / software is deployed on to the device, preparing it for a desired production use.

We tried to simplify the staging experience with the user interface and new modalities of staging. The main scope of this document is to let you know all the known issues. Please read them carefully.

Features

StageNow Client software on android devices is an application to capture the configuration content generated from any Staging content generation tools including StageNow Tool using DSD documents.

StageNow Client V2 supports staging of device using Barcode, Audio and NFC tags, communicates with MX framework on the device to apply configuration settings. StageNow client can capture 1D/2D barcodes depending on the device’s capability and DataWedge configuration.

Make sure the modalities are turned ‘ON’ before attempting to stage the device. Barcode modality is always ‘ON’ for convenience.

Note: Staging Client depends on the MX framework to apply any configuration, make sure to have latest version (4.3 or higher) on the device before staging the device.

Existing version of MX framework and functionality level is shown in the StageNow Client under “Client Info”.

Note: JellyBean and non-rebranded KitKat devices can be brought to StageNow ready state by using RD client on the device. Or StageNow client and MX can be upgraded to the latest version by using “StageNow_and_MX_upgrade” profile.

Known Issues and Workarounds

Identified Issues StageNow Client

Description Notes and Workaround

Success of the Audio staging depends on the environmental conditions, please explore the Audio staging help in the tool and Client to know

more about the audio staging expectations. NA Audio staging uses Microphone to collect data, it

can block any other application from using the same, at the same time, if some other application is already using the microphone, StageNow will not be able to acquire the data. For this reason Audio staging modality will be disabled.

NA

Indefinite wait loop is seen when the Audio staging modality is toggled ON/OFF repeatedly

Exit the StageNow client app by selecting the ForceStop option (in setting >>apps >> StageNow) and re-launch StageNow.

Audio staging not working on TC55 KK with built in Microphone

Looks like there is some issue with the built-in microphone, connectbuilt-ing the external Mic could solve the problem.

SN client will keep the device ON when the SN client is in the foreground

It’s as designed to make the job of a staging operator easy to see the status of staging multiple device at a time. This could drain the battery if the StageNow is left in the foreground after staging. Close StageNow client as soon as Staging is done.

(9)

Wi-Fi Setting with EAP TLS WEP 104 is not created properly on the device

NFC Staging fails if bin file size is more than one KB

This is an issue with the NFC data writer application, we will make another release of this software to address this problem. Uninstalling a .pfx certificate is not removing the

certificate from list

Back key not working when SN is background and user navigates in other screens (ex: settings, Wi-Fi config etc.)

Avoid navigating to other apps when Audio staging is in progress.

In some rare instances, NFC modality is not functional when NFC is not enabled in the settings

StageNow will enable NFC when the modality is enabled, if we don’t here sound when we tap NFC, Turn OFF and Turn ON NFC from the home screen.

Barcode scanning will not work after applying the “Encrypt Mgr” setting on a Jellybean devices.

It is observed that the camera stops working after Encrypt manager setting is applied. Because of which the barcode scanning will not work in StageNow client.

Workaround 1:

Enterprise reset would solve the problem. Workaround 2:

a) Open StageNow profile in the DataWedge software on the device, b) Change the scanner to “Serial SSI” c) Reboot Device.

d) Open DataWedge, Edit StageNow profile, Change the scanner back to Camera.

Barcode scanner will not work on the first press if time there is no delay of 2 sec from the moment the page is loaded

We would need a delay of 2 sec from the moment the page is activated to be able to launch the scanner with the first press of scanner button. The second launch of barcode scanner will work normally.

could be some issue with the log path write permissions. Change the log path under “log settings” to a writable location.

StageNow will disappear from the device if “Verify all app signatures” flag is enabled in the Access manager setting.

This is an access security feature provided by MXMS. When this check is enabled, system will verify all apps including MX framework and StageNow client and disable application which are not with the registered signatures. User need to be careful while enabling this feature, if they want to enable, enable StageNow application signature as well, else StageNow client application will not be shown in the device.
