Learning Theory
The instructional design follows connectivism theory combining different learning frameworks. The
learners engage in various media and material examples explaining print and Web differences relating to the learners current print two-dimensional environment. The learner’s internal Print knowledge organizes the new Web visual flow concepts, formulating new mental models and pattern recognition. The learner constructs new schema models applying individual discovery practices and participating in peer communication. The learner scaffolds and compares new and familiar Print and Web concepts and ideas.
Print Team Evaluation Assessment
Client’s initial scoping print documents often change into the Web environment. Sometimes the client suggests using a print document as a base for the Web interface or functional activity.
Print designers whose knowledge expands into the Web environment can design and analyze within the initial scope creep. However, print designers who do not understand the Web environment find it challenging discussing a conceptual Web framework resulting in an initial idea and conceptual loss. Monetarily, the company hires other Web designers closing the knowledge gap increasing the project cost and time.
Audience
The audience is corporate Print design team in one business unit. The corporate environment communication teams compartmentalize departments such as Print, Web, writing, or training. Initial business unit communication materials usually cross over into different mediums.
Print designers that develop Web skill-sets increase performance and career opportunities bridging the gap between Print and design conceptual analysis and project scope creep.
Purpose
The instructional purpose offers Print designers the core skills required to communicate their Print design concepts within a Web environment.
Print designers will be able to distinguish between two-dimensional design and three-two-dimensional design flow, mechanical differences such as CMYK and RGB, basic visual Web Grid principles.
As a result, Print designers can communicate the basic Web design visual principles and basic Web user interface frameworks.
