SPIRITWEAR ORDERS DUE

Sunday, August 30 | Online Orders Only

New this year, Trinity will be offering spiritwear through an online store for a limited time. Orders for ½ zip tops, t-shirts, and jackets can be made online using the link found on Trinity’s website (on the “Publications/Links” tab). Sample sizes of all products are at the Trinity office. (7th & 8th grade athletes in volleyball will receive a Trinity jacket and 7th & 8th grade basketball players will be provided a Trinity shooting shirt as part of their Registration Fee.) Please note online ordering ends on Sunday, August 30. Additional orders cannot be placed after that date. Products are available for pick up at school in mid-September.

THEME FOR 2015-16

Trinity's theme for the 2015-16 school year is Deep & Wide based on Ephesians 3:17b-19:

SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Trinity Lutheran Church & School is seeking volunteers to help greet visitors and answer the phones from 7:30 am-12 pm and 12-4 pm, Monday through Friday. If you, or someone you know, would be willing to work a shift or more, please contact Brenda Reister (952-657-1045). Training is provided. This is a great way to get involved in your child's school. Grandparents are invited to participate as well! Thank you for considering serving at Trinity Lutheran Church & School in this way.

ROSETTA STONE UPDATE

Trinity would like students to gain proficiency and mastery in their chosen foreign language. For this reason, beginning in the 2016-17 school year, students in 6th-8th grade will be asked to remain in the same language. Students in 1st-6th grade are invited to explore new languages and will be allowed to change languages at the start of each school year. All kindergartners will begin with Spanish.

This year, ALL students are allowed to change their chosen language. If your child would like to study a different language, please contact Kristine Marlatt (kristine.marlatt@trinitywaconia.org) by Wednesday, September 9.

If you are new to Trinity Lutheran School, please review the email you received regarding Rosetta Stone, Trinity’s foreign language curriculum. A language should be selected and emailed to Kristine Marlatt by September 9.

CONTACTING FACULTY/STAFF

The best way to communicate with Trinity’s faculty and staff is via the Trinity email system. Email addresses use the following format in all lowercase letters (first name.last name@trinitywaconia.org). Teachers and staff always welcome correspondence with parents and students. Please feel free to use this email system with any questions or concerns you have throughout the year.

EMAIL ADDRESS

Trinity will be using email for important information, updates, cancellations of events and activities, and reminders. For this reason, it is critical that you keep your email updated with the Trinity office. If you prefer to have a message sent to more than one email address, please notify Kim Taylor (kim.taylor@trinitywaconia.org). To have email pictures automatically download, you will need to click on the download picture bar and select “Add Sender to the Safe Sender List.” This will allow pictures and images sent by Trinity Lutheran Church & School to automatically download to your inbox. Please be advised that if you “unsubscribe” to any email sent by Trinity Lutheran Church & School, the email system will automatically remove that address from all future email correspondence. This means you will not receive important information and cancellations in the future.

CHAPEL

Parents and siblings are always invited to attend Chapel service held on Wednesdays at 1:45 pm. Chapel offerings for the first quarter of the school year will be used to purchase construction supplies for the Cheyenne River Reservation. Please prayerfully consider being part of Trinity’s 2016 GO! Team that will serve these people through various work projects and outreach events. Details on this multi-generational mission trip will be published later this fall.

LUNCH MENUS & LUNCH, SNACK, AND MILK TICKETS

 Lunch menus are found on Trinity’s website (trinitywaconia.org). Click on the “Publications/Links” tab to view or print the monthly

menu.

 Lunch, snack, and milk tickets can be purchased in the school kitchen from 7:50-8:10 am throughout the school year.

 Students in kindergarten-3rd grade will put their name on their lunch and milk tickets and give them to their teacher. Teachers will

notify parents when lunch or milk tickets have run out.

 Students in 4th-8th grade are responsible for their own lunch, milk, and snack tickets.

REMINDER WHEN BRINING HOME LUNCH

If you send a lunch from home with your child, please be sure to include any necessary condiments, napkins, and utensils.

TRINITY OFFICE STAFF

Kim Taylor will be working in the Trinity office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7:30 am-4 pm. Lisa Jilek will be working on Tuesdays and Thursday from 7:30 am -4 pm. Both of these ladies are aware of the events and happenings at Trinity. Feel free to speak with either of them regarding absent children, messages, etc.

FAST DIRECT CLASSROOM COMMUNICATION

Fast Direct, Trinity’s classroom communication tool, can be accessed through the Trinity website (trinitywaconia.org). From the Trinity home page, click on the “Publications/Links” tab and select the “Fast Direct Parent Log In” link. Instructions for using Fast Direct, along with user names and passwords, were provided at Back to School Night. If you did not receive this information, please contact the Trinity office.

SECURITY SYSTEM

To better provide for the safety and well-being of our students and staff the following procedures have been put into place. Your adherence to and support of these procedures is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your cooperation.

 The main school entrance (door C) will be open for dropping children off from 7:30-8:40 am on school days.

 The main school entrance (door C) will be open for picking children up from 2:20-3:00 pm on school days.

 Other than the times specified above, doors to the building will remain locked. The main school entrance (door C) has a

voice/video system in the entry way that allows parents and visitors to buzz the receptionist for entrance into the building. This system will be answered during the following open office hours:

o School Year - Monday through Friday from 7:30 am-4:00 pm

 All parents/visitors are required to sign in and will be given a badge of identification to wear (unless they are picking up a

child from preschool).

 Parents/guardians will not be permitted to go to a student’s classroom or locker after 8:10 am. All items for students should

be left at the school office and students will be notified.

 Students who have appointments or request an early dismissal will need to be signed out by a parent/guardian and will be

notified to come to the school office.

 Parents/guardians are to sign their child in upon late arrival or if they are returning to school after an earlier release.

ATHLETIC CALENDARS/CONCESSION STAND VOLUNTEERS

Athletic calendars for Cross Country, Volleyball, and Intramural Soccer will be posted to the Trinity website. Access these schedules by visiting trinitywaconia.org, clicking on the “Trinity School” tab and then clicking on “Athletics.”

This is the same location to find links for volunteering to work in the concession stand during sporting events. Any Trinity parent, but especially parents of all athletes, are encouraged to sign up to volunteer either during their child’s off-season or during another level of play. Watch for an email to be sent out with the link or visit Trinity’s website to volunteer. Thank you in advance for your support of Trinity’s athletic program.

CHANGE TO CROSS COUNTRY SCHEDULE

Please note there has been a change to the cross country schedule that was distributed at Back to School Night. The Camp Omega meet will

now be held on Friday, October 2, not October 3 as originally stated. Trinity’s website reflects this change.

INSTRUMENT PREVIEW NIGHT

Thursday, September 3 | 6:30 pm (4th-8th grade)

Mr. Dulas, Trinity’s Band Instructor, will be holding an Instrument Preview Night for any student in 4th-8th grade that would like to preview various instruments or inquire about lessons and the Trinity band program.

CROSSROADS (CONFIRMATION) MEETINGS Wednesday, September 9 | Fellowship Hall

6 pm for 9th Grade Students & Parents | 7 pm for 5th-8th Grade Students & Parents

Crossroads (Trinity’s Confirmation ministry) now includes 5th-6th grade students. Visit Trinity’s website to register for Crossroads (by registering for Freeway) and plan to attend the upcoming meeting for more details.

BETH MOORE LIVING PROOF LIVE SIMULCAST

Saturday, September 12 | 9:30 am-4:15 pm | Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Glencoe

Beth Moore is a well-known speaker and author. During this simulcast, participants will listen to Beth's live stream message from her conference in Wichita, Kansas. Register by visiting gslcglencoe.org. The cost is $25 which includes admission, a listening guide, and lunch. Unfortunately, childcare is not offered.

MAYER LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL CRUSADER CHARITY GOLF CLASSIC | Saturday, September 12 | Island View

The 18th Annual Crusader Charity Classic begins with a light lunch and a 1 pm shotgun start. End a great day of golf with a delicious steak dinner. Register as an individual or team. Contact Renae Johnson for more details (952-657-2251 x1002).

TRINITY SANCTUARY CHOIR BEGINS

Trinity’s Sanctuary Choir sings a variety of music on Festival Sundays and various Sundays throughout the year. Join the choir for all or part of the season.

POINTE KIDZ – SAME NAME, NEW FORMAT AND CIRRICULUM Sundays (beginning September 13) | Trinity Gym | 9:30 am

Trinity has adapted the Pointe Kidz, Sunday School, ministry for children and their parents 18 months to 4th grade to include:

Family Discipleship Gatherings (first Sunday of the month) - Parents and children, kindergarten through 4th grade, gather together in the gym for activities and lessons.

Parent Discipleship Groups (all other Sundays of the month) - Parents will have small groups for discussing weekly Bible lesson, prayer, and support in the important job of parenting.

Children's Classes (all other Sundays of the month) - Children will meet in their classroom with a qualified teacher to lead them through the same Bible lessons that parents and Starting Pointe (formerly known as Power of the Word) go through on an age appropriate level.

Fireflies Class (every week) - Parents and children 18 months-age 3 will be in their own classroom called "Fireflies." A parent needs to be in the classroom with their child each week.

The content of Pointe Kidz will be entirely different in the following ways:

New Curriculum - Trinity has adopted the D62GEN curriculum (moving away from 252, the former curriculum). This is a comprehensive discipleship plan for all ages so all groups track the same Bible content each week in a very organized, yet fun, and age appropriate way.

All Ages Track Together - Grandparents, parents, and friends can have discussions about what they learned and share points on the same topic, which builds intergenerational learning and relationships.

Parent & Child Participation - Parents and children are asked to attend each week.

Trinity wants to help parents pass the torch of faith and disciple children during the important formative years of their child's life. Please pray about this commitment and your participation in this ministry. Together, we will raise boys and girls who love Jesus and

want to make Him known. Registration forms are available at the Connections Center or online.

STARTING POINTE

Sundays (beginning September 13) | Fellowship Hall | 9:30 am

Discipleship occurs in circles, not rows. This all new, discipleship ministry is intended to disciple middle schoolers, high schoolers, and adults in all ages and stages of life. Students will have two groups (5th-8th grade and 9th-12th grade) each with an adult facilitator. Meanwhile, other

adults and parents will be in their own groups in Starting Pointe or Pointe Kidz tracking similar material (D6 curriculum). Over the course of six years participants will have studied the entire Bible! No registration is necessary. (Child care is available for infants through 3 years old.)

FREEWAY (5th-12th grade)

Freeway, Trinity’s Wednesday night ministry to 5th-12th grade students, is taking on a new dimension and becoming intentional to include

social and service components. Sign up for the Fall Session on Trinity’s website.

CHROMA DASH – SAVE THE DATE Friday, September 25

Back by popular demand… Trinity will hold the Chroma Dash on Friday, September 25. Watch for additional details via email. In the

meantime, save the date and plan to join your child (siblings welcome, too!) for this fun day to build school spirit while raising funds that benefit Trinity Lutheran School.

FREE PACKET OF SCHOOL PICTURES AVAILABLE

Ms. Radde needs a parent volunteer to help with school pictures on Monday, September 28 and/or Tuesday, September 29 from 8:15- 11 am. As a thank you for volunteering, you will be given a free packet of school pictures. If you are interested in helping, please contact Ms. Radde (kathy.radde@trinitywaconia.org).

BABY PICTURES NEEDED (8th graders) | Due Monday, September 28 | Kathy Radde

8th graders…Please bring in a baby picture for Trinity’s school yearbook and your 8th grade slide show. Your age in the photo should be anywhere from birth to three years old. The picture should be 3x5 or 4x6 inch in size. It will be returned to you. You may bring the picture to Ms. Radde’s classroom or email a copy of the picture to kathy.radde@trinitywaconia.org by Monday, September 28.

CULVERS FUNDRAISER TO BENEFIT 8TH GRADE WASHINGTON, D.C. TRIP

Plan to take the night off from cooking, eat at the Chaska Culvers, and support the Trinity 8th graders’ Washington, D. C. trip. Invite your family, neighbors and friends. Ten percent of sales during this time frame will be donated to Trinity’s 8th graders.

GRANDPARENTS DAY

Each fall, Trinity Lutheran School welcomes grandparents to campus to spend the morning with their grandchildren. Grandparents won’t want to miss it this year – October 14. All new activities are being planned that will make it easier to spend quality time together. Watch for more information soon.
