How you fit
The Business Intelligence and Data Engineer is responsible for the design, development,
implementation, management and support of mission critical BI reporting and Extract,
Transform, Load (ETL) processes and environment. The position also acts as the owner of the
Data Models across all applications and will manage any Data-marts that will be required by the
business for Operational Dashboards.
The role sits within the Solution Delivery team, working alongside a team of specialists in
business intelligence, data management and analytics.

Business Intelligence
Identifies and recommends new ways to improve efficiency bystreamlining business processes.
Creates models that depict trends in Council data and works with departmental managers to outline and then prioritise the specific data needs for each business unit.
Acts as a consultant for others who utilize the data contained in the information systems.
Provides analytical guidance and understanding on how to use data to provide business insight.
Creates custom solutions, with the ability to customize databases and software to meet business reporting requirements
Automates or increases efficiency of existing reporting Business analysis undertaken to gather required BI system requirements
Translates business requirements into specifications that will be used to drive data store/ data warehouse/ data mart design and
configuration
Uses ETL tools to load data store(s)/ data warehouse(s)/ data mart(s). Provides technical assistance and cross training to other team
members
Designs and implements technology best practices, guidelines and repeatable processes
Integration
Supports in-house integrations where data is provided from or to ourvendors
Creates new integrations for movement of data within TCDC and to external parties.
Data Management
Evaluates existing databases and systems ensuring they are runningcorrectly
Analyzes data details and accuracy ensuring that the data being used is viable and accurate
Oversees data mapping processes
Ensures proper configuration management and change controls are implemented
Supports internal customers to ensure timely and accurate delivery of data.
Provides support as required to ensure the availability and performance of database and BI environments for TCDC
Relationship
Management
Customers, stakeholders and staff are supported with professional, accurate and timely advice and guidance, as required.
External relationships are professionally managed with clear communication on expectations
Key stakeholders are well informed and consulted, with input and influence from Council in decision making.
Organisational Support Team Meetings are regularly attended ensuring knowledge and skills are shared, and other staff are supported.
Procedures, information systems and policies are documented and complied with.
Appropriate and agreed continuous professional development is undertaken.
Civil Defence and Emergency Management training and activities are participated in.
Other duties are completed, as requested by the manager, to support the business unit.

About you

A successful Business Intelligence and Data Engineer will need the following to succeed:
Education / Training
A degree in computer science, information technology, or softwareengineering is desirable
Experience
5+ years' experience implementing reporting systems, working withusers in a requirements analysis role.
Extensive use of SQL and RDBMS systems (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, etc.)
Extensive experience with data warehouse implementations High level of working knowledge using SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS Demonstrated business acumen in utilising business intelligence to inform and drive business effectiveness, value and growth. Experience in working with API’s.
Experience in working with a range of corporate technologies. Current, Full Drivers Licence.
Demonstrated experience of embedding a continuous improvement culture in business processes.
Knowledge, skills and
attributes
Strong knowledge of logical and physical data modelling conceptsUnderstanding of Data Standards (National and Regional) including Information Management/Records Management Strategies and Policies.
Ability to understand project management methodologies. Ability to contribute to strategic discussion, able to drive and influence decisions confidently with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
