learndirect eCourses

E-learning, on-demand

Overview for Resellers

June 2012

(2)

Context

learndirect is a national training provider with a mission to improve skills through technology. During the last ten years, 3.5 million people have benefited from

learndirect courses.

Compiled by learndirect to fill training gaps in commercial markets, “eCourses” is a

substantial collection of online courses. The courses have been selected from leading e-learning publishers for their demand and relevance to the workplace.

The access model is specifically designed to suit delivery in SME and consumer markets, by ensuring that courses can be accessed in small quantities, on demand.

eCourses enable training providers to benefit from:

• Instant access to “best of breed” e-learning in popular subject areas (business and management, ICT, finance, languages, food hygiene etc).

• A low cost / low risk way to significantly extend their training provision, and deliver the benefits of online learning to their customers.

The business model (for SME resellers*)

The following applies to training providers with a local audience, targeting SMEs or individuals: • All eCourses can be ordered in any combination or quantity (on demand).

• All eCourses have a individual wholesale price, to allow the reseller to mark-up. A few examples:

– Introduction to Health & Safety, £4.50 (RRP £15) – Sage 50 Accounts, £45 (RRP £95)

– Foundation Food Safety (with certification), £16.50 (RRP £35)

• There is a “pay as you go” option from as little as £40 per month (“system charge” for provision of the e-learning portal), with no content pre-payment.

• A lower system charge (or waived system charge) is provided where the reseller makes a pre-purchase at a certain level. The pre-payment can be “spent” on any combination of courses over the term of the agreement.

Full details of the charging structure (and wholesale price list) is provided on application. * We may contract on a different basis with large providers or those with significant national

Frequently asked questions (1)

As a reseller, how can I utilise eCourses?

Resellers can use eCourses to support a wide variety of activities. For example: – Value-added enhancements to existing programmes or services

– Cross-sell and up-sell opportunities (meeting your customers’ wider training needs)

– Marketing “hooks” (free or subsidised eCourses to attract / retain customers) – Enhanced offer for specific sectors (ie Food Safety)

– Evidence of extended training provision (ie to support bids) • Who can I sell to?

Resellers can sell anywhere within the UK to individual consumers and to SMEs

(companies with less than 250 employees). For specific opportunities, learndirect

may provide special permission to sell into other markets, however some courses do have license restrictions so this might not always be possible.

What customer support is involved?

eCourses are designed for self study, and do not require any “tutor” support.

learndirect provides a technical helpline, and the reseller provides all the “account management” support (advice and guidance, billing etc).

(9)

Frequently asked questions (2)

What is the course access period?

Most eCourses come with 6 month’s access. This starts from the date that the course is first “opened”. Some (ie language courses) have 12 month’s access.

How do customers pay for the courses?

You (the reseller) would normally bill the customer in the “usual way” (ie by invoice), or include / bundle eCourses as part of a wider service. Please note that the

eCourses system does not include e-commerce payments for resellers. • Can I set my own prices?

Yes. The courses have a “recommended retail price”, however you can set a different price if you prefer (or even offer courses for free). We ask that, within reason, any “significant” price promotions are time bound and/or targeted to discrete customer groups.

If I make a pre-payment, what happens if I don’t spend it all?

Under the “reseller account” option, the pre-payment is essentially your minimum commitment for the term of the agreement. We are unable to roll-over any unused funds to the next contract term.

(10)

Frequently asked questions (3)

Does VAT apply?

Yes, these products attract VAT so this should be taken into consideration when setting your prices.

What marketing resources are available?

The user interface includes an online course catalogue (without prices), which can be linked-to from the reseller’s website. This includes “try before you buy” options for many courses. PDF course descriptions are supplied for print or email. Additional materials such as brochures and fliers may be provided at learndirect’s discretion.

Are the courses mapped to qualifications?

Some courses (ECDL etc) provide the underpinning knowledge for qualifications, but generally this is for skills rather than qualifications. A “Statement of Completion” is

emailed to learners at the end of their course. • Can I track learner progress?

(11)

Next steps and contact details
