Good afternoon Gina,

Thank you for bearing with me.

2-1-1 Broward provides 24/7/365 access to local, live Helpline Counselors who assist anyone in need. Approximately half the calls seek assistance with basic needs such as food, shelter, and/or emergency rent or utility assistance. These calls and the connections and support they generate contribute to safe and healthy communities. 2-1-1 Broward also answers crisis calls, including all calls that originate in Broward, for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. 100% of our Helpline Counselors are crisis certified. Another example of 2-1-1’s direct service intervention is our referral to qualified and convenient substance use treatment, education and prevention.

2-1-1 Broward partners with Mobile Crisis Unit and local law enforcement for those crisis calls that require immediate intervention. Regrettably the

increase in mental health and suicide related calls has been sustained during the pandemic. The challenge is not specifically the volume of calls, but the

complexity. On average each caller expresses 1.9 specific needs. Mental Health and stress related calls have risen to the third most requested service. In fact 9%

of callers never express a specific need. That is , they are helped simply by someone listening to them. 100% of our Counselors are trained to

offer empathetic listening.

Ideally 2-1-1 Broward is able to connect and address issues before they become a crisis. This directly aligns with City of Sunrise and law enforcement goals to protect life and property, prevent crime, and respond to calls for service. When appropriate and necessary, direct interaction between 2-1-1 Broward and Sunrise Police provides critical emergency response to residents in need.

One item currently under discussion is leveraging 2-1-1's ability to connect those about to be released with the services to support them during the transition.

2-1-1 Broward is always there in all sorts of ways. On a daily basis we support our community through listening, advising, and advocating for them. We could not do this work alone and are grateful for the collaboration with the City of Sunrise and Sunrise police department.

Kind regards,

Will Spencer, Chief Social Enterprise Officer
