Dear Parishioners and Guests, National Vocation Awareness W e e k ( N V A W ) , c e l e b r a t e d November 7-13, 2021, is an annual week-long celebration of the Catholic Church in the United States dedicated to promoting vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life through prayer and education, and to renew our prayers and support for those who are considering one of these particular vocations.

It began in 1976 when the U. S.

bishops designated the 28th Sunday of the year for NVAW.

The Catholic Church supports and teaches us that there are three vocations: the single life, married life, and the religious life or priesthood. Let’s take a closer look at each of these vocations and what they consist of.

Did you know that being single is a vocation that is fully supported by the Catholic Church? For clarification, this does not mean being single by default because you are not having any luck in the dating world. An individual who is truly being called to the single life will feel strongly about this choice in his or her heart. There are many reasons why someone might feel drawn to the single life. For example, some desire to have the time to do more service work, church projects, or activities that require much of their time and attention.

Now, you can certainly still do service projects while being married, but your time will also be occupied by your spouse and children.

Marriage is the most popular of the three vocations, but this doesn’t mean that it is better than the others. Maybe you have dreamed of marriage your whole life or planned out the perfect wedding in your mind. But, marriage is much more than an elegant white dress, fancy flowers, and

suits. If you are called to the married life, there are a lot of responsibilities that come with this.

Last, but certainly not least, the religious life. An individual who feels called to the religious life may feel a deep desire to offer one’s entire self to God or devote their life to serving Jesus in a religious community.

Each religious community professes different vows that they live by and follow. The priesthood, which is a calling for men, is also part of this vocation. Catholic priests take vows and devote themselves to serving God and the people by administering the Sacraments, w o r k i n g i n p a r i s h e s , a n d doing service work. Priests can choose to either join a religious community or work for the diocese. Women who are called to the religious life can become nuns, and such women also take specific vows to offer and devote themselves fully to God and their religious community.

In any of these states of life, God calls us to build up society in a manner that reflects the love of God. This is our general vocation as Christians. Even through work God wants us to build his kingdom. God calls us to meaningful work that brings value to humanity; work that does not exploit people for personal gain. In your occupation, ask yourself each day how your work will bring glory to God and help people rather than take advantage of others for personal profit.

Each vocation requires some sacrifice to die to self in the service of others. Perhaps this is the true meaning of vocation.

Through serving others, we act as God to others and we become more and more like Christ each day. While we might sin and fall short of what God desires for us, God still calls us to faithfully live our vocations in the hope that we will be with God in heaven some day.

Announcement for families with students in Catholic School:

In order to qualify for the Catholic Family School tuition rate and completion of the Parish Affiliation Form, weekly offertory envelopes usage is required on a regular basis .

It is important to understand an offering does not need to be included with the usage of the weekly envelopes.

This is the only feasible way to confirm your family is active in the church and meets the definition of an “active Catholic family.”

If at the time of needing the Parish Affiliation Form to be

completed, you do not meet the definition, we are happy to do so when your attendance at weekly Mass has met the definition.

We applaud your decision to educate your children in our Faith.

God Bless,

Your Parish Finance Council of Our Lady of the Angels

Please call the church office at least six months in advance to schedule your wedding. We recommend that you not schedule your reception venue until you have secured a date & time for the wedding ceremony.

Baptisms are scheduled on Saturdays at 2:30PM and Sundays at 12:30PM. Parents must attend one mandatory Baptism preparation class which are held on the first Monday of the month at 7PM. Visit our website to submit a Baptism registration form at olangelscc.org or contact the parish office. Godparents must be registered, active members of a parish.

Adoration Ministry Team

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, then I will enter his house and dine with him, and he with me" (Rv 3:20). We hear in Scripture that Jesus stands at the door of our heart and knocks. He only invites and never demands or breaks into our lives without our acceptance. He knocks, we open the door, and the invitation and welcome are complete.

Let us pray... God of the invitation, you knock upon the door of everyone's heart.

We seek the courage to open that door, for we know the responsibility of saying yes. We humbly ask you for your wisdom to serve your church with compassion and acceptance. We believe that when we say yes, you will provide the grace for the work ahead.

Give grace to those men and women who have dedicated their lives to constant service to your church. Also give grace to those couples and single men and women who work for the church in their secular lives. We ask all this through Christ our Lord and brother, who live and reign with you and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

"How long has Jesus been knocking at the door of your heart, waiting to enter?"

Memorare to St. Joseph

Remember, O most pure spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, my great protector, Saint Joseph, that

no one ever had recourse to your protection, or implored your aid

without obtaining relief.

Confiding therefore in your goodness, I come before you. Do not turn down my petitions, foster

father of the Redeemer, but graciously receive them.

Amen
