A Motion Graph Approach for Interactive 3D Animation using Low-cost Sensors

A Motion Graph Approach for Interactive 3D Animation using Low-cost Sensors

The 2 major problems of motion graph based approaches are - designing a rich set of behavior for avatar, and giving the user control over these behaviors. Lee et al. [36] introduce a framework for representing, searching and producing 3D animation in real-time. The graph is a hierarchical representation for enable quick search. There are 3 interfaces for generating animations - choice based, sketch based, and a performance-driven vision based interface. In choice based interface, the user is presented with a set of possible animations which can played from the current pose. Using the sketched based interface, the user can sketch the 2D path the avatar is to follow. The vision based interface extracts visual features from video and uses them to query a motion graph. Except for the vision based interface, the other two are not intuitive enough for a simple user and are not very interactive. The vision based interface suffers from occlusion and suffers from a lag of 3 seconds. Our search algorithm shares some of the goals of this vision based interface.

An AGVS Management Model Utilizing 3D Animation Techniques

An AGVS Management Model Utilizing 3D Animation Techniques

Abstract: Background/Objectives: The AGVs used in the manufacturing sector for all types of material transportation related to manufacturing process are highly effective in the environments equipped with repetitive transportation patterns. However, since the User Interface of the AGVs management systems is mostly using a 2D system, it is quite difficult for the general managers to use. Accordingly, in this paper, we intend to propose a 3D animation styled management model which may be easily used by the general managers to enhance the efficiency of the AGVs management.

3D DESIGN // 3D ANIMATION YES, WE DO VISUALIZING REALITY

Whether your heart desires a machine, design object or comic figure there is no limit to what we can produce. We produce animation sequences that show for example a process flow or different effects, which we will then use in the post production. Due to our professional film production background we have a vast amount of knowledge, allowing the complete production of 3D animation projects to take place in-house. Green screen material and 3D Tracking // Matchmoving, the combination of 3D animation and realfilm allows us to change different scenes completely to create new worls and to implement credible effects.

Virtual reality and 3D animation technologies in teaching quantitative subjects

Virtual reality and 3D animation technologies in teaching quantitative subjects

In this presentation, learning is reinforced by the use of specially developed dialogues which is enhanced with audiovisual features. Hence, the user would feel as if they are witnessing and taking part in a real dialogue with the lecturer. Virtual actors play the role of the teacher and students. The people involved and environment are generated by computer and their actions and behaviour are controlled by the designer. All the virtual actors have realistic facial expressions, voices, moving lips, mannerism and movement. They can be viewed in full 3 D from different angles as real actors. These presentations have been deliberately designed in such a way that reliance on text and language-dependent features is kept at minimum. Hence, the learning is re-enforced by the use of specially designed visual and aural features. In these presentations, Mario plays the role of a virtual lecturer who adopts the Socratic method of teaching. He engages in dialogues with his students and encourages them to find the answers and solutions through controlled guidance. Mario’s appearance, facial expressions, mannerism, speech and lip movements are as close as possible to those of a real person. He, his students and the objects around him are also rendered as 3D. Hence, they can be viewed from different angles and distances as if they are being filmed in real life.

Stylized Rendering Techniques For Scalable Real-Time 3D Animation

Stylized Rendering Techniques For Scalable Real-Time 3D Animation

Notice that we must do a dot product at each vertex for every frame. While current processors are fast enough to handle this math at interactive rates on scenes with reasonable complexity, hardware lighting could potentially be used to speed these computations. Since 3D graphics accelerators with hardware lighting compute L ⋅ n per vertex anyway, a hardware pathway between the lighting and texturing subsystems and an associated automatic texture-coordinate generation mode would be beneficial for cartoon shading. A variety of shading techniques, both photorealistic and nonphotorealistic, could also benefit from such hardware features [Heid99]. Our texture-mapped method is equivalent to per-pixel color thresholding. Without texture mapping we would need either hardware-supported per-pixel procedural shading or a thresholded variation of hardware Gouraud shading to achieve the same fast results.

Design and Production of 3D Animation Short Film “Relict”

Design and Production of 3D Animation Short Film “Relict”

Market economy which was introduced into People's Republic of China in the end of last century, has gone through ten years of development. The rapid development of material and economy has also caused three serious social problems which have been brought to people’s attention. Firstly, the problem of overloaded population caused by the beneficial policies granted and large resources flowed in to first-tier cities for their fast development has also aroused rapid growth of housing prices in Beijing. Secondly, air pollution has seriously threatened the inhabitants in Beijing. Most of all, people’s living standard is obviously harmed by those are the three problems. These three issues seem to be independent to each other, however they are closely related to one another, and they exist among all the first-tier cities, especially in Beijing which is the capital city. In this thesis, the author hopes to use 3D techniques through conceptual design and scenario design in order to complete an animated short film, describing how these social problems would influence Beijing and lead to its future with further development of science, technology and economy in hundreds of years.

The Opportunity: A 3D Animation About Karma

The Opportunity: A 3D Animation About Karma

Immediately after the thesis concept was approved, designs were created that had a realistic texture and cartoon-like body style for the sunflower. During the time that there was a hold in production due to the workload, new visual influences were discovered. These new influences inspired a change in the art direction of The Opportunity. One particular influence was the animation Meet Buck (https://vimeo.com/user2825043). The illustrative painterly style of this film had great appeal. The simplistic texture and shapes of the character became very influential and eventually guided The Opportunity towards this style. In this design, the goals were to get a painterly gesture like texture and use no bump or displacement maps. The light and dark areas would be painted into the texture. Typical 3D films such as the Toy Story series by Pixar or Disney’s Frozen, feather the colors and have them bleed into one another. The colors in The Opportunity were purposefully not blended. The stroke of the brush was intentionally visible to help add a layer of “texture” to the texture.

IMMERSIVE 3D USER INTERFACE FOR COMPUTER ANIMATION CONTROL

IMMERSIVE 3D USER INTERFACE FOR COMPUTER ANIMATION CONTROL

This paper describes a virtual reality -based method to control 3D animation. We chose a topic that is particularly difficult to control with traditional desktop applica- tions – a particle system. Particle systems have the potential to create high-quality computer graphics, but they need lots of control data if one wants to create control their dynamics in detail. We have developed a new – more natural – way to control a particle system by working directly in 3D virtual environment. By working in an interactive 3D virtual environment animators can spend more time on adjusting and tuning the animation and less time on entering control data and learning how the system works.

Pixar was initially an arm of LucasFilm and was bought for US$10 million in 1986. At the time the company’s main business was focused on the development of high-end visual processing computers for the medical industry, but the company also produced short animations as a way of demonstrating the power of the hardware they were trying to sell. The hardware never took off, but the short animations managed to capture people’s attention. The animation department began to overtake the development department in terms of sales success when they began taking on advertising jobs. Pixar eventually cut back on their computer department and increased staff numbers in their animation department. This change of business tactic was marked by the company’s US$26 million deal with Disney Studios to produce Toy Story. Pixar continues to be the trailblazer in 3D animation production, having followed up Toy Story with several high box-office grossing 3D features.

Animation Use as an Educational Material and Animation Techniques

Animation Use as an Educational Material and Animation Techniques

It is important to design the physical and skeleton structure of the movement in 3D animation. The movement mechanism of the character should be designed as realizing every kind of movement that the movement makes. The characters should be supported by using mimics in emotional transfer (Çalışkan, 2011, s.10). 3D animation is a system of digital modeling and manipulation system. 3D animation forms an external network to be processed, a skeleton form is given inside of it and the design forms views processing it with mathematical calculations in this form. Three dimensional animation is creating three dimensional models in spatial location on the computer with the principle of making a series of two dimensional drawings creating depth illusion provided by painting the acted models. (Doyle, 1992, s.16). 3D Animation techniques, Cel-shaded/Toon Shading animation, Morph target animation, Motion Capture Animation, Skeletal animation.
