Jay Yang and Vanita Ahuja state that building projects require the interaction and coordination of various stakeholders during all stages of the project life. In current scenarios, the project team members are often geographically separated and their successful management can be enhanced by effective communication management. In the construction industry, 97% of the companies employ less than 20 persons, and can be classified as Small and Medium enterprises (SMEs) (Katranuschkov et al. 2001). Therefore any communication management research for the building construction industry needs to address management characteristics and communication processes suited for SMEs, in order for the strategies developed to become industry standards. Numerous studies have highlighted the importance of effective communications for project success (Biggs 1997 and Tam 1999). It was accomplished in a study that the top 30 potential problems contributing to poor project performance could be classified under five categories, out of which communication problems are listed as the third category and all five categories involve communications to some extent (Thomas et al. 1998). As part of their study curriculum, second-year students undertake a field project for a company, a non-profit association or any other organization in the health sector. It is a three-month con- sultancy project conducted by a team of three to four international students from the Master of Science in Communication, Management and Health, who apply their theoretical knowledge and skills in communication, management and marketing acquired in the Master’s programme to real practical situations in a professional environment. Examples of projects include market or competitive analysis, product positioning, feasibility study, evaluation of health campaign, consumer satisfaction study. Students are under the supervision of the Director of the Master’s programme and the Master’s External Relations and Partnership Manager, who provide guid- ance to manage contacts with the client organization, develop the project and prepare the final report and presentation to the organization. Students’ evaluation is based on the quality of the final report, client satisfaction and team collaboration.

Despite the increased interaction among countries of the world, scant systematic research currently exists on the way public relations (communication management) is conducted by organizations of different types (corporations, NGOs, government agencies) in different parts of the world. Although this course is titled “Global Corporate Communication,” the class shall assess international communication management not just by corporations but by governments and non-profits as well. Although public relations scholarship started at least in the early part of the 20th century in some of the Western developed nations, it is only in the past few years that public relations practitioners and scholars have begun to emphasize the importance of viewing public relations practice from an international perspective. This has been greatly necessitated by the rapid globalization that has taken place since the final decade of the previous millennium. In the past 15 years or so, a few studies have emanated from different regions of the world focusing attention, among other things, on the inadequacies of an ethnocentric approach to public relations scholarship. This course seeks to provide students with some insights on the generic principles that one can use to understand public relations practice. These principles were developed on empirical evidence from practice in the US, UK, and Canada and therefore are deemed normative for the rest of the world until empirical evidence can be gathered from many regions of the world. The cultural differences that influence how these principles are applied in different parts of the world shall be explored in this class. These factors are: the political system, economic system, media system, culture (both societal and organizational) and activism. In so doing, this course seeks to offer students the opportunity to develop research programs for their Master´s theses that would contribute to building this young body of knowledge. Student cognitive engagement describes students' feedback, students' representation and students' participation in learning. It also includes feelings and sense making or involving in learning activity. It depicts the cognitive engagement and compliance of student with cognitive activities norms, such as active participation in online forum discussion attendance and involvement in-group work, completion and submission of assignment (Trowler, 2010). The classroom (conventional) method of teaching and learning which involves the physical presence of teachers and students does not cover the need of learners that are constrained by time and space (Khan, 2005). Therefore, rather than meeting in a conventional classroom, teachers and students in distance learning communicate synchronously via online communication. In synchronous communication, students and lecturers interact at different locations. At the same time, video conferencing, group chat or webinar are also used. With this development, many universities and colleges have included distance education programmes as part of their educational services. Distance education programmes require a systematic management of communication process (Dabaj, 2011). This include processes such as planning, curriculum design, instructional design, evaluation and implementation of policy that can foster and support active learning in distance education environment (Khan, 2005; Moore & Kearsely, 2012). Higher institutions need to embrace communication management techniques in response to the rapid expansion of distance education opportunities. These opportunities can be utilized by adopting and integrating the composite function of communication management sub-constructs of communication practices, communication tools and students’ cognitive engagement to facilitate teaching and learning (Beaty, 2004; Peggy, 2014).

This would provide the attacker with a full access to the network’s bandwidth for some period of time until the attacker’s discovered.
