Jobs that are accepted by the Admission Control are received by the Scheduler module, which makes decisions based on a number of factors such as the pool to which the idle resources belongs to and job priority and ownership. In order to prevent starvation of regular jobs, a minimum amount of resources to be made available for regular tasks can be defined. These resources compose the regular pool and its access is coordinated via a regular queue. The rest of the local machines belong to the deadline pool, whose accesses are coordinated via deadline queues. Finally, dynamically provisioned machines belong to external pools and are coordinated by external queues. Figure 3 depicts the organization of the resource pools and queues in the Scheduler. Tasks that compose submitted jobs are forwarded either to the regular queue or to one of the deadline queues (there is one of such queues for each resource that belongs to the deadline pool). They respectively store tasks without deadline constraints and tasks with such constraints. Tasks on each queue are rearranged every time a new job is received by the Scheduler and every time a task completes. A third set of queues, external is also present in the Scheduler. There is one of such queues for each user and it contains tasks that belong to jobs that require dynamic provisioning to complete before the deadline. Tasks on this queue execute preferentially in dynamically provisioned resources, as detailed later in this section. Algorithm details the procedure for building the regular queue. This procedure runs every time a new job is received and every time a new resource is added to this pool. In the case of the deadline pool, whenever a new job is received, tasks are scheduled to different resource queues following a policy such as Round Robin, Worst Fit, Best Fit, and HEFT [8]. We

An efficient resource allocation for dynamic workflow in IAAS cloud

important problem concerning the efficient management of such ensembles under budget and deadline constraints on Infrastructure- as-aService (IaaS) clouds. We discuss, develop, and assess algorithms based on static and dynamic strategies for both task scheduling and resource provisioning. We perform the evaluation via simulation using a set of scientific workflow ensembles with a broad range of budget and deadline parameters, taking into account uncertainties in task runtime estimations, provisioning delays, and failures. We find that the key factor determining the performance of an algorithm is its ability to decide which workflows in an ensemble to admit or reject for execution. [7] Propose an algorithm that can enlarge the chance of selecting the best policy in limited time, possibly online. Through trace-based simulation, we evaluate various aspects of our portfolio scheduler, and find performance improvements from 7% to 100% in comparison with the best constituent policies and high improvement for bursty workloads.[8] propose a cost effective and dynamic VM allocation model based on Nash bargaining solution. With various simulations it is shown that the proposed mechanism can reduce the overall cost of running servers while at the same time guarantee QoS demand and maximize resource utilization in various dimensions of server resources.[9] argues a more flexible approach that IaaS providers should offer virtual machines with flexible combinations on multiple resource types. We further formulate the problem of multiple resource virtual machine allocations for IaaS clouds, and develop analytical models to predict the suitable number of PMs While satisfying a predefined qualityof-service requirement. Experiments show that the proposed approach can significantly increase the resource utilization, with a reduction on the number of active PMs by 27% on average.[10]The workload is also highly dynamic, varying over time and most workload features, and is driven by many short jobs that demand quick scheduling decisions. While few simplifying assumptions apply, we find that many longer-running jobs have relatively stable resource utilizations, which can help adaptive resource schedulers. If the user does not sat- isfy the obligation before the second condition becomes true, a penalty is applied to him. The authors in [38] talk about what they called deontic conflicts. The types of conflict that the authors have classified in this category are those that occur between permission and prohibition and those which occurs between obligation and obligation waiver. As in the used formalism, the authors do not use prohibition and obligation waiver modalities, they do not deal with these conflicts in their work. But in this cate- gory, there is another kind of conflict which is the conflict between the obligations with deadlines and permissions. In our work, this conflict is detected when there is no plan consisting of permitted actions that lead to fulfilling an obligation requirement in its deadline. In other words, it is possible that in a given situation, a mandatory action is permitted and it can be fulfilled in its deadline, but it is not possible to execute because it is necessary to first execute other actions which are not permitted. Certainly, the authors define another type of conflict called tempo- ral conflicts which occur when two deontic assignments at the same time initiate and terminate obligation. This is a particular case of what we detect in what we call the global conflict between the obligations with deadlines. Indeed, in a given situation, it may be possible to fulfill an active obli- gation in its deadline but given that there are other active obligations, at the same time it is not possible to fulfill them together without violating one of them. The con- flict in the temporal constraints is actually a special case of a ‘logical’ conflict which we detect with the concept of executable plan.

Progressing to a more complex reactive implementation of Bayesian perception, we found substantial improvements in shape and position discrimination when the robot could respond to the sensory data by randomly re-positioning the fingertip after a deadline. Hence, this movement strategy per- mitted an even greater degree of hyperacuity in the positional perception. The reaction time in Bayesian perception as- sessed the quality of a location for perceptual discrimination, which could be utilized to re-position the sensor for improved performance. Several other lines of enquiry remain open for improving robot perception. For example, the reactive perception considered here used random moves rather than purposively trying to improve the decision accuracy. In our opinion, significant gains could arise from allowing these movements to be guided with active perception [20], [21], such as by deciding the best move to disambiguate competing hypotheses during the perceptual process.
