Digitization of Educational Technology Centres for Teaching Electrical and Electronics Technology in Colleges of Education in North Eastern Nigeria

Findings on research question 2 revealed low extent of digitization of software facilities for teaching electrical and electronics technology in Educational Technology Centres in Colleges of Education in North Eastern Nigeria. It was found out that a wide difference exists between the analog and digital software expected in Educational Technology Centres in Colleges of Education in North Eastern Nigeria. Both analog and digital software are not adequate in the Educational Technology Centres, an indication that the process of digitization of software in the Educational Technology Centres is slow. This finding was in agreement with findings of Tella (2011), who in his study found that software such as compact disks (CDs) and other digital and analog software were not available, let alone, being used for instructional purpose in colleges of education in South Western Nigeria. The findings also agreed with the findings of Wodi (2009), on the concept of educational technology and the problems prospects of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Nigeria. Wodi (2009) found out that soft wares produced overseas are grossly unavailable for teaching and learning in the nations’ undergraduate programmes.

Smart grid itself is an interactive system. Therefore, in the process of running, the power grid changes all the time in order to adapt to the change in the system and the environment and to meet the demand of customers. Because of this, the smart grid requires excellent response ability and good adaptability. Power electronics technology can rightly meet demand for safety performance of the smart grid. At present, the power grid in the power electronics technology is basically done via different forms of independent innovation. In relevant industries we have created fostering points, and have made some progress in various aspects, such as the ability to improve the power grid transmission and distribution, to reduce the fault loss, to improve power grid power supply quality and to shorten the recovery time after fault and so on. We really have made new breakthrough. Estimating from current situation, in the future, the construction of the smart grid in China is bound to put forward new requirements of the advanced power electronics technology so as to promote the continuous development of power electronics technology.

Power electronics technology has affected every aspect of electrical power system networks including HVDC transmission system apart from AC transmission, distribution, utilization and also at generation level (e.g. static AVR). In this paper, an attempt has been made to study the performance of a power electronics based Custom power controller, DVR for use in the distribution network so as to enhance power quality and supply to the end consumers using MATLAB/ SIMULINK. Results of the simulation runs are also presented with various settings of parameter used in the model so as to support the validity of the role of DVR in improving the quality of power supply at distribution side.

The CFL has a faster recovery response if there are voltage fluctuations. Reference [4] discusses experiments related to lamp response when a voltage dip occurs (voltage drops in a short time). Figure 4 and Figure 5 show the response of incandescent and CFLs to one cycle dip voltage of 4.83%. The recovery time of the CFL is very fast, which only takes 0.01 seconds, while the recovery time of incandescent lamps takes 0.08–0.1 seconds, as shown in Table 2. This can be understood, because the equivalent circuit of the power electronics technology-based CFL has a capacitor on the output side of the rectifier so that the capacitor can maintain the inverter tube input voltage if there is a voltage dip in a short time.

Information technology and electronics firms from Taiwan Province of China in the United Kingdom: Emerging trends and implications

This article examines the modal choices, key activities and motivations of non-dominant information technology and electronics firms from Taiwan Province of China in the United Kingdom, against the backdrop of recent trends in the global economy. Its main findings include the limited prospects of the sample firms’ evolution into manufacturing activity in the United Kingdom and the increasing importance of inter-firm logistics collaboration. Among the key policy implications discussed in the article are: the need for appropriate measures to support the United Kingdom’s positioning as a gateway to, and a preferred base for intelligence gathering on, other European markets; the need for “high-wage” advanced economies to capitalize upon their not-easily-replicable location-specific advantages (e.g. reputable research-and- development clusters; substantial domestic market) in targeting foreign direct investment in the research and development, design and sales-related areas; and the importance of a more balanced investment attraction strategy that actively targets major global players (and their capacity to attract secondary inward investment) without compromising support for indigenous growth companies. Future research should pay greater attention to the intra-regional, rather than intra-country, context of firms’ evolution in international markets.

These molecules behave as diodes or programmable switches that can make up the programmable connections between wires. Chemists have designed these carbon-based molecules to have electrical properties similar to their solid- state counterparts. Molecular devices have one huge advantage over solid-state devices: their size. Thousands of molecules can be sandwiched between two crossing micro-scale wires to create an active device that takes up very little area. Current VLSI crosspoints made of pass transistors are 40- 100 times larger than a wire crossing or via [Butts02]. Since molecular devices fit between the wires, large area savings could be achieved.
