Essays on Information Disclosure, Healthcare Marketing & Consumption

Essays on Information Disclosure, Healthcare Marketing & Consumption

This essay adds to the growing literature on the impact of mandated transparency on healthcare, with specific focus on how marketing regulations influence physician behavior. Specifically, using very high quality behavioral data and a rich set of controls, this essay provides evidence that disclosure laws impact physician prescription behavior in both a statistically and economically significant manner. The results show that, across a series of policy interventions in Massachusetts from 2009 to 2011, the number of prescriptions of both branded and generic drugs drops with the relative magnitude of the drop being higher for branded drugs. The pattern of the results suggests that the main reason for the change in behavior is self-monitoring by physicians rather than a change in the direct payment regime on the firm side. I show the robustness of my results using prescriptions in three different drug classes across three temporal change points representing the policy intervention, via the use of a different estimation method, the use of an alternative control group, the use of a different pre-period (January 1, 2009 to June 30, 2009) as well as different data transformations. The full set of robustness checks is summarized in TableA.1, with the results presented in Appendix A.2-A.4. Across all these checks, my overall finding is that there is negative and significant impact on prescriptions as a result of the introduction of the disclosure law.

Driving Change in U.S. Healthcare Marketing

Driving Change in U.S. Healthcare Marketing

The average life span has increased from just over 49 years at the beginning of the 20th century to more than 78 years today. Much of this gain can be attributed to healthcare innovations that have extended life expectancies. Even with these advances, U.S. citizens with chronic health issues still fall behind the rest of the world in life expectancy. Recently, new studies have found a correlation between life expectancy and education— those with college educations tend to live longer than those who only went to high school, or dropped out.

An investigation of how healthcare organisations use Social Media as marketing tools in the UK-the case of private and social care Organisations.

According to the iMarketing Factory (2011), a website development company explained that there are different benefits Healthcare businesses can reap from YouTube, and there is quite enough evidence to convince them to use it. Effectively, YouTube is an excellent place to popularise a product or service that is wildly used, as well as to get feedback and rates if the product or service is not at the end stage of the process. It is also an efficient tool to solve a repetitive problem that their customers encounter, by showcasing a sort of tutorial via a video. YouTube enables a business to increase its brand visibility as well, by rating, commenting and sharing videos of other users, relating to the brand and its values. The Platform provides an analytics tool called YouTube Insight, which is good to follow several views, likes or dislikes a business, gets on its videos. The critical point is that YouTube makes it possible to increase a business’ website traffic, by inserting the business site URL in a video and because of the search engines index the videos. Finally, something necessary and so important that this company underlines is that the video-sharing platform is free of use for most of the things, which makes businesses save money, unlike newspapers, TV advertisement. They can follow the communities about the product and service they render and need most. Oricchio (2008) demonstrated that businesses could be successful on YouTube if they create informative, creative and educative videos and if they are engaged in their community.

success. However, persuasion process designed by management towards internal members has potentially significant effect on their individual performances in persuading consumers. The related literature suggests that (Voss and Zomerdijk, 2007; Prahalad and Ramaswamy, 2004) target people perceive the buying process as behavioral exchange between firm and customer rather than transactional process. The challenge for providing higher service quality results ions pursuing to the deliver superior customer value should conceive the value of staff who are the leading agent in the process of transfering the desired satisfactions. Figure 1 presents a framework whereby superior customer relations are determined by a chain of factors beginning with marketing based relational strategies for internal customers. Marketing- based relational strategies directed to internal customers induce an internal positive psychology on personnel attitudes. As a result of this transaction, positive emotional labor is expected from internal customers through the pleasure and positive attitudes towards organization. Emotional labor then results in higher service quality, and greater rapport between staff and customer. This model assumes that superior customer relations is determined by marketing based relational strategies for internal customers. Thus, the perspective of top management for generating competitive advantage through relationship management is considered as a fundamental strategic determinant in the process.

Anti-Microbial Devices with Disinfectant-Ready Enclosures In any area of a healthcare facility, the need to limit the spread of germs is critical to improve patient care and protect employees in direct contact with infected patients. To safeguard patients and employees, shared equipment must always be kept in a clean, sanitary condition; yet, routine cleaning of data collection devices with harsh chemicals can erode plastic enclosures over time and potentially damage internal components. To solve this challenge, Datalogic’s Disinfectant-Ready enclosures are designed to withstand daily cleaning with harsh disinfectant chemical solutions to effectively fight germs and bacteria. These special plastic enclosures are treated with silver-ion based additives to earn their anti-microbial status. These additives have been proven to inhibit microbial growth on the scanner’s surface when tested against standards JIS Z 2801:2000 and ISO22196.

brands other than McDonald’s. The organization’s overall objective is to increase market share. In this instance, the focus is purely on localization with different strategies for different countries. Pricing could not possibly be standardized across the globe without alienating many countries with poorer economies, thus defeating the initial objective. McDonald’s set an appropriate price for their product by looking at its competitors in each country. McDonald’s is attempting to localize marketing communications due to the realization that it couldn’t possibly appeal to all countries at the same time. The firm sees the necessity to “brand globally, act locally”. For example, in China it was recognized that advertising on television would be a waste of money because commercials between programs are generally ignored. Instead, McDonald’s uses newspapers and magazines to promote its image. Similarly, in East Asia, McDonald’s targets children in order to gain optimum results. Of course, the ultimate message (brand) is the same; the medium is what is strategically modified.

From Domestic Marketing through International Marketing to Intercultural Marketing

From Domestic Marketing through International Marketing to Intercultural Marketing

Every marketing campaign begins with a time-consuming analysis of the target market. Amongst other elements, the following characteristics of the target market are researched: Age range – Gender – Profession - Family/environment – Hobbies. We need to find out how best to approach the target market and how to arouse the most emotions in the chosen market. What would be the most believable way to reach the target market? What does the target market consider particularly important? A great amount of time and money is spent on the entire campaign and in the end everything is quickly translated into other languages. But is the knowledge gleaned from the original target market analysis also applicable to the new target group, for whom the information has been translated? Does the visual language of the person from the German-speaking part of Switzerland equally affect a person from the Italian- speaking part? Or would a play on words used by a person from the German-speaking part of Switzerland make sense to a person from the French-speaking part? Switzerland is located at the intersection of three European linguistic cultures. There is, therefore, no doubt that cultural differences are to be expected in our country! It has been scientifically proven that people from the German-speaking part of Switzerland, the Italian-speaking part and the French-speaking part each have their way of thinking and living. They are affected by different images, and similar topics do not necessarily arouse similar emotions. These are exactly the issues that intercultural marketing aims to address. In order to avoid a nasty surprise at the end of a campaign, or to find a perfect play on words that works across all languages, it is advisable to consider at the beginning of the campaign if linguistic and cultural differences can somehow be united with one topic. This is what we mean by intercultural marketing (I04).
