TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION. APCI-1032, APCI-2032 and APCI-1564 Digital input board / output board / I/O board, optically isolated

The board APCI-1564 is equipped with three 32-bit counter inputs whose function is comparable to that of the Intel counter module 82C54. Each of these counters can be programmed through software. The signal inputs of the counter are channels 0-2. Independently from the counter function, these channels can be used as normal digital inputs. The cut-off frequency is 500 kHz. There is no signal input for gate and trigger functions.

Quantum mechanical computers can be in a superposi- tion of states and carry out multiple operations at the same time. An algorithm that uses this parallelism is which searches an N item database for a single marked item in O( √ N ) quantum queries where each query per- tains to only one of the N items [7]. Grover has also justified the quantum approach of being able to access all the items in the database simultaneously and hence being able to search an element in a single query [8]. In the process, the over all effectiveness of the algorithm dipped down to Ω(NlogN). This is primarily due to the complexity of the nature of the query generated and the post processing of the data.

Network I/O with Trapeze

Network I/O with Trapeze

One benefit of PCAD I/O nodes is that they support flexible use of network memory as a shared high-speed I/O cache integrated with the storage service. Trapeze was originally designed as a messaging substrate for the Global Memory Service (GMS) [6], which supports re- mote paging and cooperative caching [5] of file blocks and virtual memory pages, unified at a low level of the operating system kernel. The GMS work showed sig- nificant benefits for network memory as a fast tempo- rary backing store for virtual memory or scratch files. The Slice block I/O service retains the performance em- phasis of the network memory orientation, and the basic protocol and mechanisms for moving, caching, and lo- cating blocks are derived from GMS. We are investigat- ing techniques for using the I/O server CPU to actively manage server memory as a prefetch buffer, using spec- ulative prediction or hinting directives from clients [13].

This month in Omaha we have Andrew Thompson discussing Net Zero Energy Building Design. Andrew will present to us what is driving Net Zero Energy Buildings, describe the design process and present some lessons learned from real world experiences. I hope our chapter members are finding our monthly technical presentations beneficial and we would appreciate suggestions on how we can continually improve our topics and presentations. Please feel free to contact myself or Aaron Rasell,

the application as it may increase the communication and I/O overhead. With imbalance in performance of components in HPC system, applications are configured to utilize only a part of the compute nodes available on the system. To improve the utilization of the system’s compute resources, more than one application, each having exclusive access to a set of compute nodes allocated to it is allowed to run on the system simultaneously. Compute resource managers and schedulers are responsible for scheduling applications. A variety of scheduling algorithms are available [18] that improve compute node utilization. HPC systems are typically equipped with one (or few) shared file system(s). Unlike compute nodes that are exclusive to a single application, file system is shared by all applications running on a cluster or supercomputer. In addition, file system also han- dles requests from interactive commands from the user. Jaguar [12], the leadership-class supercomputer managed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory, TN, comprises of 18,688 nodes and uses a Lustre file system called Spider. The scale of applications running on Jaguar is such that typically, several dozen applications run simultaneously, and all appli- cations share the Spider file system. This facility manages several other supercomputers. In order to prevent islands of data spread across several file systems, all systems mount Spider [33].

{¶ 25} Reasonable minds could find that the patch of spilled liquid detergent on which Plaintiff Middleton slipped and fell, being a condition foreign to when and where Plaintiff encountered it, presented a hazard that was not open and obvious. The fact that it was observable on subsequent examination may be determinative of whether the Plaintiff should have seen it, but not whether it was as a matter of law open and obvious. Therefore, I agree with Judge Brogan that the trial court erred when it granted summary judgment for Meijers. Our holding in Brant should be limited to the particular facts of that case.

m managers are needed to accommodate the incoming information, hence the probability of information loss if only m managers are hired, at time s. We are interested in recursive formulas for computing ψ(s, ≤ m) and ψ(s, > m) for m = 1, 2, ...i, ..., I. We would like to remark that C could be time dependent, but it suffices to illustrate the main idea using a time homogeneous C. Consider the information loss phenomenon as a stochastic process. Without loss of generality, suppose s > t ≥ 0. Partition the space [0, ∞) into the union of the the disjoint sets Ω 1 = [0, C(1)], Ω 2 = [C(1), C (2)], ..., Ω i =
