Two sites in Washington were located at MountSt. Helens, a volcano in the Cascades, ca. 100 km northeast of Portland, OR. In May 1980, MountSt. Helens erupted with catastrophic effects. Large tracts of vegetation were buried by landslides or blown down by molten rock hurled at speeds up to 1000 km/h (Weyerhaeuser 2006). The eruption essentially destroyed all aboveground life within ca. 600 sq km surrounding the summit (Lawrence and Ripple 1998). Our study was conducted in September of each year beginning in 1985, five years after the eruption, through 2004. The Pumice Plains site is in the heart of the blast zone, near the base of MountSt. Helens. The Green River site is within the outer reaches of the blast zone and therefore is experiencing a faster vegetation recovery. Regeneration of vegetation is slow at both areas owing in part to high ash levels (Weyerhaeuser 2006).
Columbia View Park Expansion Plan 13 Recommendations
Community feedback suggests that one of the most valued features of the park is the spectacular view of the Columbia River and MountSt. Helens. “Columbia View” is in the park’s name after all. In the park design process, careful attention should be paid to preserve this scenic view. The community wants more amenities, but at the same time, they are concerned that new structures such as new stage might block the scenic view. Also, access to the river is one of the most highly desired elements from community feedback. Currently people are only able to walk along the river in the grassy lawn area or the vacant gravel area. Constructing a paved trail could bring in more pedestrians to enjoy the river in comfort. Currently the park is closed after sunset, but community members think lighting could improve safety at night and allow nighttime activities.
Significant Post-Med Activity: Parr appears to have developed from the growth of two main industries. A number of chemical works and collieries became well established during the nineteenth century including Parr Alkali Works and Ashton’s Green and Broad Oak collieries. The success of such industries relied, in part, on the Sankey Canal that provided access to coalfields in StHelens and saltworks in Cheshire and Liverpool. There were also a number of railways servicing the collieries. StHelens Flint Glass Works was also in operation. (4)

The course syllabus is one aspect of good pedagogy: It sets out information about the course as well as course expectations. From the faculty member’s standpoint, it provides an easy-‐to-‐use form setting out the components and requirements so there is clear communication with the students. From the students’ point of view, the syllabus gives an overview of the coverage as well as the requirements, so they have a good sense of what the course entails from the beginning of the semester. Any surprises should be in the satisfaction of learning and the joys of being in an educational environment that values all the participants—students and faculty. At MountSt. Mary’s College, we are guided by the Mount Mission to further the development of the whole person. The syllabus helps make that evident.
• The drive is extremely fragile—handle it with care. Do not press down on the drive top cover. • Always rest the drive on a padded, antistatic surface until you mount it in the computer. • Do not touch the connector pins or the printed circuit board.
• Do not remove the factory-installed labels from the drive or cover them with additional labels. Removal voids the warranty. Some factory-installed labels contain information needed to service the drive. Other labels are used to seal out dirt and contamination.

During the month of Ramadan, as Muhammad sat meditating in a cave on Mount Hira, an angel in the form of a man came to him. The angel said, “Recite!” Muhammad said, “What shall I recite?” The angel overwhelmed Muhammad in an embrace, and then released him and said again, “Recite!” Muhammad repeated, “What shall I recite?” and again the angel overwhelmed him in an embrace. This happened a third time, after which the angel said, “Recite in the name of your Lord who created—created man from clots of blood.” According to Muslim belief, on this and several other occasions, Muhammad heard the angel Gabriel calling him to be the messenger of God.
