Here the mode of controlling appliances is by sending command wirelessly through Bluetooth. IR remote control has many applications in the field of electronics. Remote control based on IR for controlling multiple home appliances with microcontroller is also reported for the same function. Another approach is by GSM based for home automation. This is done by sending short SMS code from a mobile handset and it has a wider coverage area. So to control any house hold appliances from a distant place within the coverage area sending a short SMS code will either ON or OFF the devices at home All these work is carried out for the same function but in a different way and by using different technology. Some uses Bluetooth technology and some uses GSM technology or IR technology. Each technology has its own advantages and disadvantages over the others but they all serve the common purpose to replace manual work. The main objective of this work is to create such system which can control multiple appliances by using RF technology. One of the main advantages of remote control based on RF is that it can operate the appliances without the requirement of line of sight within its specified range or area efficiently. Fig 1.1 shows the basic overall design system to control four independent home appliances like TV, fan, room light and music system through a remote with four switches.

A buzzer or beeper is a signalling device, usually electronic, typically used in automobiles, household appliances such as a microwave oven, or game shows. It most commonly consists of a number of switches or sensors connected to a control unit that determines if and which button was pushed or a preset time has lapsed, and usually illuminates a light on the appropriate button or control panel, and sounds a warning in the form of a continuous or intermittent buzzing or beeping sound. Initially this device was based on an electromechanical system which was identical to an electric bell without the metal gong (which makes the ringing noise). The circuit is designed to control the buzzer. The buzzer ON and OFF is controlled by switching transistor (BC 547). The buzzer is connected in the transistor collector terminal. When high pulse (5 Volt) signal is given to base of the transistor, the transistor is conducting and closes the collector and emitter terminal. Hence the buzzer was already getting a volt power supply in the positive terminal. At that time the buzzer gets the negative supply. So the circuit will close and the Buzzer will ON. When low pulse is given to base of transistor, it will turn OFF. So buzzer will also OFF because it doesn’t get negative power supply. This type of transistor arrangement is called driver circuit. We cannot connect any load to the Micro-controller output terminals. That is why we need a driver circuit

The home automation systems developed earlier includes a PIC16F887 IC integrated with GSM module enabling SMS based automation [2], unlike this project, did not use any android application in it and involved extra task of writing message.In [3], Elkamouchi also gave a prototype of Smart home and used sensors and actuators for the home appliances to get them connected to microcontroller. Another smart home was built in [4], where Xbee was used for communication instead of GSM. In 2011, a Wireless remote power controller was built in [5], which could control power consumption in a home through TC35 module. Han in [6], built a smart home energy management system using IEEE 802.15.4 and Zigbee module for communication. A computerized system was developed in [7], where a GSM was interfaced with a desktop computer. Home appliances had wired connection with desktop and users were connected through Wi-Fi. Doors and Windows were monitored in [8] using PIC18F452 with security that required ID for entering through the door.

This piece of research work proposed a simpler system for users’ interaction with home appliances, using Bluetooth technology for operation support.
