Falls and Sioux City. These stations have increasing nitrate levels for the year 2015 (that is 4.34, 4.5, and 6 mg/Ltr. respectively). There is a similar pattern (6.8, 7.2, and 11.01 mg/Ltr.) for 2016 as well. The MN Pipestone 099 station had the highest nitrate levels among all the stations. The nitrate level at this station increased from 1.8 mg/L in 2007 to 11.23 mg/L in 2016. During this period, there was also an increase in corn and soybeans acreage. The Mann-Kendall test for LCC trend show an increasing trend for corn and soybeans acreage and also an increasing trend for nitrates. The third objective of this research, that is, land cover trends be associated with nitrate trends holds true at this station only. Conversely, the station SD Codington K06 showed an increasing trend for corn and soybeans and decreasing trend for nitrates.

Exploring Irish Multigenerational Trauma and Its’ Healing: Lessons from the Oglala Lakota (Sioux)

Exploring Irish Multigenerational Trauma and Its’ Healing: Lessons from the Oglala Lakota (Sioux)

This exploratory article reviewed the professional literature related to the construct of multigenerational trauma and the importance of cultural identity and practices as healing and protective/resilience factors against such trauma. It also posited that the Irish and the Oglala Lakota (Sioux) of the North American Northern Plains have commonalities; one commonality perhaps being multigenerational trauma (also called historical loss, transgenerational trauma/shame). Emerging evidence about treatment of multiage- nerational trauma with the Lakota through implementing their cultural practices and cultural renewal in rural settings are also discussed. Finally, this investigation describes results from a focus group expe- rience with 12 Irish counselors from rural Southeastern Ireland that explored resiliency related to multi- generational trauma using genograms to describe and compare traumatic and resiliency patterns. {Note: This exploratory approach does not include Irish Diaspora (e.g., Irish-Americans, Irish-Australians, and Irish-Canadians)}. It is hoped that based on the results of this approach, further investigations can occur with these populations.

THE INFLUENCE OF GRAZING TREATMENTS ON DENSITY OF NESTING BURROWING OWLS ON THE CHEYENNE RIVER SIOUX RESERVATION

THE INFLUENCE OF GRAZING TREATMENTS ON DENSITY OF NESTING BURROWING OWLS ON THE CHEYENNE RIVER SIOUX RESERVATION

This study revealed that burrowing owl densities on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation are influenced positively by grazing treatments and positively correlated with inactive prairie dog burrow densities. The results of this study suggest that the presence of grazing is more beneficial to owls than the absence of grazing. Additional long-term monitoring is needed in other parts of the owl’s range to gain a broader understanding of these results. An increased sample size comparing ungrazed sites to both bison-grazed and cattle-grazed sites would be valuable. Further research should attempt to choose study sites that are similar in size, prairie dog management and grazing intensities.

fact the document that adopts the determining role of linking urban planning with mobility planning. In this area, based on the zoning of city environments as defined in the urban planning instrument, there is a requirement to define the consequent suitable physical layout of public spaces for roadways. It is, in short, the moment of choice, on a case-by-case basis, between total pedestrianisation, the integration provided by traffic calming measures, and the separation of the traffic elements. There is, thus, an incentive to focus on the cautious drafting of the functional classification of roads, moving away from seeing this as a tedious official obligation, as often happens, unfortunately.

Smart City or Smurfs City

Smart City or Smurfs City

Some alarming predictions highlighted at the Rio de Janeiro conference of 1992 are taking place. The planet's resources are used by 20% of the population, but with the economic growth of countries such as China, India, Russia and Brazil, with an elevated number of inhabitants could completely blow up the environmental balance of the planet. Therefore, clever approaches to save money and environment are needed. We cannot reproduce an urban development based on the same model that has governed the process of urbanization occurred since the Industrial Revolution until today. It is necessary to move from an approach based on pure physical growth of the city, to one founded on the ability to use in a correct and efficient way energy, water and other resources and to provide a good quality of life. In practice, Cities should become smarter in programming and planning management and use of existing resources.
