Visual theologies in Graham Greene's 'Dark and Magical Heart of Faith'

Visual theologies in Graham Greene's 'Dark and Magical Heart of Faith'

The genre of the 'Catholic Novel' also does nothing to distinguish the type of Catholicism that is being addressed, be it Latin or Eastern churches. Neither does it explain the subclasses underneath these classifications. Byzantine? Alexandrian? East Syrian? West Syrian? Though the word itself, ‘Catholic’ speaks of the 'universal doctrine' of a single religion practised around the globe, the history of Catholicism is imbedded with schisms, movements, conflicts, councils and theological disputes. It is a safe assumption to hold that the 'universal doctrine' of Catholicism has failed to be represented by one almighty and undivided church. When paired with the vogue of literary taxonomy, a term like the 'Catholic Novel' is not comprehensive enough to describe the works of divergent writers like Shusaku Endo, J. R. R. Tolkien and Graham Greene. A definition of this genre that attempts to yoke these varying styles and perspectives together might suggest that what makes these novels eligible for entry into a Catholic Canon is an authorial intention that is distinctly separate from covert evangelism or theological teaching. This definition seems reasonable, until we think of narratives such as Brideshead Revisited or The Lord of the Rings, novels which differ in their mode of realism but which, we might argue, share similar theological motivations to show the triumphant forces of grace and the goodness of mankind.

The role of psychological interventions in the management of patients with chronic pain

The role of psychological interventions in the management of patients with chronic pain

emphasizes a non-judgmental interaction between the self and private thoughts and events. Values are utilized as guides for electing behaviors and interpretations that are characterized by those values an individual strives to instantiate in everyday life. Finally, through committed action, patients can realize behavior changes aligned with individual values. Thus, ACT utilizes the six core principles in conjunction with one another to take a holistic approach toward increasing psychological flexibility and decreasing suffering. Patients are encouraged to view pain as inevitable and accept it in a nonjudgmental manner so that they can continue to derive meaning from life despite the presence of pain. The interrelated core processes exemplify mindfulness and acceptance processes and com- mitment and behavior change processes. 45

Psychological Readiness of Primary School Teachers to the Introduction of the Inclusive Education in the Republic of Dagestan

Psychological Readiness of Primary School Teachers to the Introduction of the Inclusive Education in the Republic of Dagestan

When identifying the differences in pedagogues’ psychological characteristics of an inclusive education institution and a general education school, where the inclusion is not introduced, we found a difference in the mind set level for empathy – SVA&CG pedagogues’ level is higher compared to the No.13 preparatory school (t = -3.52; p = 0.00) – SVA&CG pedagogues are more likely to show a deep interest in another person in a situation of interpersonal interaction and not to limit the “range” of emotional reaction. We identified the differences in relation to different sides of family life: No. 13 preparatory school pedagogues have more of the following characteristics than the SVA&CG pedagogues: care only about the family (t = 2.87; p = 0.006), excessive care for children (t = 2.12; p = 0.03), inhibition of aggression (t = 2.65; p = 0.01) and child sexuality (t = 3.07; p = 0.003), desire to speed up the development of the child (t = 3.12; p = 0.003). Thus, pedagogues of inclusive educational institutions are more willing to accept children unconditionally, are not inclined to overly suppress their sexual and aggressive manifestations. Readiness not to overly speed up the child’s development contributes to their work with children with special needs.

Seeking Spinoza: The Spinozistic Origins of Early Psychological Theory in Wundt, James and Freud

191 not, since the passive variety has little or nothing of the volitional to it. Passive effort is exercise almost without consciousness, and is consequently difficult to characterise as an act of will in the same vein as a conscious act of will which entails some level of striving and conscious effort. Effort, James tells us, inheres in a conscious act of will through which we both knowingly or consciously strive toward an outcome and invest conscious energy (even if it be the mere work of a moment) in the act of achieving this outcome. One of the examples he uses to elucidate how will works, and what its absence looks like, is very relatable to most all of us, though possibly not to the Stoic spirit of the likes of Spinoza, whose self-discipline was legendary, and calls to mind Marcus Aurelius’ encouragement in Part Five of his Meditations that his reader should get out of bed in the morning ready to work and reject any urge to linger in the warmth. James, always relatable and thoroughly human in his mode of expression, describes in his unmistakable style the comfort of being warm in his bed, knowing that he should of course get up and go about the day, but lacking the will to push himself into the action. He lies there “…with full consciousness of the pros and the cons, the warm rest and the chill, the sluggishness and the manliness, time lost and the morning’s duties…” 28

Technical and commercial comparison of Citrix XenServer and VMware vsphere

Technical and commercial comparison of Citrix XenServer and VMware vsphere

XenServer and vSphere support multi-site deployments, whereby VMs can be made available in primary and DR sites. In each case, both the VMware and Citrix DR solutions rely on SAN-based replication technologies to keep VM files and configuration data current at a backup location. VMware offers Site Recovery Manager, an add-on product that is essentially a workflow engine to orchestrate the DR of systems virtualized with vSphere. VMware licenses Site Recovery Manager on a per-protected-VM model. Unlike vSphere, XenServer includes StorageLink Site Recovery in the Platinum Edition, with the license covering an unlimited number of VMs. StorageLink Site Recovery simplifies configuration of VM replication and recovery across primary and secondary sites, allowing failover to a secondary site and fail back once the primary site has recovered. StorageLink Site Recovery simplifies the validation of failure plans by allowing recovery plan testing to occur without impacting any of the replication events required to back up VMs.

Comparison of Relationship Theory from Perspective of Freud and Klein in Ian McEwan's Works

Comparison of Relationship Theory from Perspective of Freud and Klein in Ian McEwan's Works

Object relations theorists study the early formation and differentiation of psychological structures (inner images of the self and the other, or object) and how these inner structures are manifested in inter- personal situations. These theorists focus on the relationships of early life that leave a lasting impression; that is, a residue or remnant within the psyche of the individual. These residues of past relationships, these inner object relations, shape perceptions of individuals and relationships with other individuals. Individuals interact not only with an actual other but also with an internal other, a psychic representation that might be a distorted version of some actual person. Although object relations is an offspring of Freud‘s Drive theory, nevertheless, the emphasis of the concept about Drive of Object Relations is different from Freud‘s. The focus of the concept about Drive according to object relations is emphasized on the mother and child relationship. The emphasis of object relations on habitual patterns of early interpersonal relations is stressed significantly on the mother‘s roles (Apriyanti, 2017).

The Complete Works of Gerrard Winstanley

The Complete Works of Gerrard Winstanley

The innovative editorial decision to follow contemporary practice and distinguish the five pre-Digger writings from the later works by having the first volume of this edition reproduce the contents of Several Pieces Gathered into One Volume (1649) in the same sequence as they originally appeared is one that I applaud. Likewise, I agree with the adoption of the superior second editions of the first four writings as the copy text. This necessitates having The Breaking of the Day of God (dedicatory epistle dated 20 May 1648) appear before The Mysterie of God (1648), contrary to the order preferred by Sabine. In the editors’ support I would suggest that The Mysterie of God was issued after 20 May 1648 since it contains evidence of

Management of the psychological comorbidities of dermatological conditions: practitioners' guidelines

Management of the psychological comorbidities of dermatological conditions: practitioners' guidelines

Abstract: Dermatological disease can be devastating for patients, and although dermatologists are focused on remedying the cutaneous manifestations of these conditions, it is easy to miss the psychological suffering lurking below. Studies reveal that psychiatric comorbidity in dermatology is highly prevalent. Undetected psychopathology can greatly decrease a patient’s quality of life and even contribute significantly to the clinical severity of their skin disease. For these reasons, it is vital that practitioners learn to detect psychological distress when it is present, and it is equally essential that they understand the treatment options available for effective intervention. Without training in psychiatric diagnosis and psychopharmacology, dermatologists can easily feel overwhelmed or out of their comfort zone when faced with the need to manage such condi- tions, but with the negative stigma associated with psychiatric disease in general, a psychiatric referral is often refused by patients, and the dermatologist is thus left with the responsibility. Uncertainty abounds in such situations, but this review seeks to alleviate the discomfort with psychodermatological disease and share practical and impactful recommendations to assist in diagnosis and treatment. In a busy dermatology clinic, the key is effective and efficient screen- ing, combined with a repertoire of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment options that can be dispersed through an algorithmic approach according to the specific findings of that screening. By implementing these recommendations into practice, dermatologists may begin to gain comfort with the management of psychocutaneous disease and, as a specialty, may expand to fill a hole in patient care that is truly significant for patients, their families, and our communities as a whole.

Freud uitgeven

Freud uitgeven

Instant InfoSystems. Open Text Fax Server (RightFax) Preinstallation Guide. January 20, 2011

PCI-X is often confused with PCI-Express. PCI-Express is commonly abbreviated as PCI-E or PCIe. While they are both high-speed computer buses for internal peripherals, they differ in many ways. The first is that PCI-X is a parallel interface that is directly backward compatible with all but the oldest (5-volt) standard PCI devices. PCI-e is a serial bus that offers no compatibility with older buses. When purchasing certain products for your system, you may be given the choice between PCI-X and PCI-E versions of a card. Cards designed for PCI-X will not work in a PCI-E slot and visa versa, so it is important to make sure you are ordering the correct card.

Relation of the Psychological Constructs of Resilience, Mindfulness, and Self-Compassion on the Perception of Physical and Mental Health

Relation of the Psychological Constructs of Resilience, Mindfulness, and Self-Compassion on the Perception of Physical and Mental Health

The results of this study support the idea that the perception of one ’ s health is a multidimensional concept 82 that is associated with variables such as age, educational level, physical exer- cise, smoking, and also with the psychological constructs of resilience, mindfulness and self-compassion, supporting the belief that they may be considered “ health assets ” . 7,11 – 13,16 However, more research is necessary in order to determine their role as health assets and in the adoption of healthy life- styles. Resilience has been the most consistent factor in terms of its direct relationship with the perception of physical and mental health in all of the analyses carried out, while the relationship with all of the mindfulness and (self) compassion dimensions of perceived physical and mental health has not been fully demonstrated. The relevant role of resilience may be explained by its being fostered by internal factors such as acceptance (simultaneously related with the capacity of mind- fulness and compassion), active coping, perspective-taking, optimism, and spirituality, 83 which may be related to both health perception and the adoption of healthy lifestyles.

Synergistic and complete reversal of the multidrug resistance of mitoxantrone hydrochloride by three-in-one multifunctional lipid-sodium glycocholate nanocarriers based on simultaneous BCRP and Bcl-2 inhibition

In summary, the mechanism for the complete reversal of MDR by TMLGNs can be assumed to be that shown in Figure 5C: 1) the MTO-TMLGNs were taken up into BCRP- overexpressing MCF-7/MX cells by endocytosis, which increased the MTO accumulation in resistant cancer cells by escaping the efflux induced by BCRP transporter; 2) the released CsA further inhibited the efflux of the simultane- ously released MTO; 3) GcNa inhibited Bcl-2 and promoted cancer cell apoptosis; and 4) the TMLGNs increased the delivery efficiency of the multicomponents and allowed them to act synergistically. The TMLGNs developed in this study will offer information to help develop an optimum regimen for water-soluble cytotoxic drugs in cancer treatment to completely reverse MDR.
