DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.24327/ijrsr.2017.0811.1062 ARTICLE INFO ABSTRACT A colostomy is an artificial opening in the abdominal wall that is made during surgery, which changes normal body function to allow stools to pass after a disease or injury. The study was planned to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on patient’s knowledge on self care management of colostomy in tertiary care hospitals. Experimental approach with one group pre test - post test design was used for 30 patients. Majority 46.7 % of patients belonged to the age group of 31-40 years, and 86.7% were males. The knowledge score gained by the respondents in the results shows that the mean value of knowledge in pre test was 8.63 and at post assessment was 17.1. Since, the “p” value for the test is 0.05. Structured teaching programme was highly effective to improve the knowledge score of subjects towards colostomy care.

The pre test shows that knowledge scores of the postnatal mothers 18 (36%) of them had very poor knowledge, 30 (60%) had poor knowledge, and 2 (4%) had good knowledge regarding newborn care. In post test shows that knowledge scores of the postnatal mothers 4 (8%) of them had poor knowledge, 26(52%) had good knowledge, and 20 (40%) had very good knowledge regarding newborn care. The paired t-test method was used to compare pre and post test knowledge scores and the pre test mean was 12.2 and standard deviation was 4.2. The post test mean was 28.4 and standard deviation was 5.1. So, the obtained t- value was -17.4 and p -value was 0.001 which shows there was significant difference in knowledge levels that is the post test knowledge level is more than the pre test knowledge level after administering structured teaching programme among postnatal mothers. Conclusion: Pre-experimental one group Pre test – Post test design was done to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on essential newborn care among postnatal mothers at PESIMSR Hospital, Kuppam, Chittoor dist., A.P. Thus, the study concluded that post test knowledge score is higher than pre test knowledge score which is found to be significant. i.e. the structured teaching programme on essential newborn care among postnatal mothers was effective.

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK The investigator adopted Imogene king’s goal attainment theory (2003) based on personal and interpersonal systems including perception, judgement, action, reaction, interaction and transaction. The investigator adopted this basic theory for conceptual framework which is aimed to find out the effectiveness of structured teaching programme regarding child abuse among mothers of under five children. This involves interaction between the researcher and under five mothers. There are six major concepts.

The calculated t value 12.4 was greater than table value (1.660) at 49 degrees of freedom at 0.05 level of significance. Here the researcher gave a structured teaching programme among primi gravid mothers attending antenatal clinic under ten components such as general information about warning signs of pregnancy, severe vomiting, severe bleeding per vagina, unusual swelling of face, arms and legs, high fever, pallor, severe headache, leaking of watery fluid through vagina, decreased fetal movements and no indication of labor after two weeks of expected date of delivery.

Materials and Methodology Pre experimental, one group pre-test post-test design was used to conduct the study. 30 staff nurses were selected by Non probability purposive sampling techniques who were working in maternity and pediatric wards. Structured knowledge questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge level among staff nurses. After pre-test, same day structured teaching programme on prevention of selected neonatal infections was given to samples. Post test was administered after 15 days of teaching programme using same structured knowledge questionnaire. Data was analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics.

The study was to “Evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding allergic respiratory disorders and their prevention in children among mothers at selected rural area,bengaluru”. The study involved Pre-Experimental design, with Random sampling method. Information was collected from 50 mothers of under-five using the structured interview schedule. STP was implemented and the post-test was conducted after 7 days. Findings related to effectiveness of structured teaching programme showed that the overall mean knowledge score in pre-test is 31.5% and in post-test 59.25% with the enhancement of 27.75% and it is significant at 5% level. ABSTRACT - Health of the children has been considered as the vital importance to all societies because children are the basic resources for the future of human kind. Majority of child health problems are preventable. In this view the pre experimental designed one group pre and post test was conducted to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding diarrhea among mothers of under five children in Patrapalli village at V.Kota, Chittor[dist], A.P.The majority of women 31(51.70%) were belonging to the age group of 22–25 years. This tells us that the posttest knowledge Scores was higher than the pretest knowledge which indicates that knowledge of mothers was improved through structured teaching program. Thus the study was concluded that the structured teaching program has effect on improving knowledge among mothers regarding diarrhea.

After the teaching, the pre-test mean score of knowledge was 17.97and post test score was 27.02and the ‘ t ‘ value is 15.052.The pre-test mean score of attitude was 70.13and post test score was 86.8 and the ‘t’ value is 11.336.There is no association of the post-test knowledge and attitude with the demographic variables.

29 PROCEDURE FOR DATA COLLECTION The data collection period was from 01.08.15 to 31.08.15. Before conducting the study formal permission was obtained from medical director of Sakthi Hospital, Kallakurichi. The samples were selected by non probability convenient sampling technique. One group pretest and post test pre experimental design was used. Before pretest the samples were gathered between 11am-1pm at conference hall in Sakthi hospital. In pretest the investigator collected data about parents demographic variables, knowledge and attitude on importance of play needs for ½-1 hour. After pretest the structured teaching programme was given for 1 hour. During structured teaching programme the play needs were displayed to the parents of under five children according to the age group. Post test was conducted on 8 th day after structured teaching programme by using the questionnaire and attitude rating scale to find out the effectiveness of structured teaching regarding importance of play needs.

Summary: A pre-experimental (one group pre test - post test) study was conducted at Sri Vidya Mandir Matriculation Higher secondary school, Kondalampatty, Salem to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding prevention of sexual abuse among female children. Widenbach’s Helping Art of Clinical Nursing model was used as the conceptual frame work for the study. 60 students were selected by systematic random sampling technique and 5 students in 4 groups in each day trained for three consecutive days. It includes definition, indications, contraindications, equipments, patient preparation, procedure, prevention and management of complications. The subjects verbalize the need for learning and accept for learning through structured teaching programme and give consent.
