DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.24327/ijrsr.2017.0811.1062 ARTICLE INFO ABSTRACT A colostomy is an artificial opening in the abdominal wall that is made during surgery, which changes normal body function to allow stools to pass after a disease or injury. The study was planned to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on patient’s knowledge on self care management of colostomy in tertiary care hospitals. Experimental approach with one group pre test - post test design was used for 30 patients. Majority 46.7 % of patients belonged to the age group of 31-40 years, and 86.7% were males. The knowledge score gained by the respondents in the results shows that the mean value of knowledge in pre test was 8.63 and at post assessment was 17.1. Since, the “p” value for the test is 0.05. Structured teaching programme was highly effective to improve the knowledge score of subjects towards colostomy care.

The Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme on Essential Newborn Care among Postnatal Mothers

The pre test shows that knowledge scores of the postnatal mothers 18 (36%) of them had very poor knowledge, 30 (60%) had poor knowledge, and 2 (4%) had good knowledge regarding newborn care. In post test shows that knowledge scores of the postnatal mothers 4 (8%) of them had poor knowledge, 26(52%) had good knowledge, and 20 (40%) had very good knowledge regarding newborn care. The paired t-test method was used to compare pre and post test knowledge scores and the pre test mean was 12.2 and standard deviation was 4.2. The post test mean was 28.4 and standard deviation was 5.1. So, the obtained t- value was -17.4 and p -value was 0.001 which shows there was significant difference in knowledge levels that is the post test knowledge level is more than the pre test knowledge level after administering structured teaching programme among postnatal mothers. Conclusion: Pre-experimental one group Pre test – Post test design was done to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on essential newborn care among postnatal mothers at PESIMSR Hospital, Kuppam, Chittoor dist., A.P. Thus, the study concluded that post test knowledge score is higher than pre test knowledge score which is found to be significant. i.e. the structured teaching programme on essential newborn care among postnatal mothers was effective.

The study was to “Evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding allergic respiratory disorders and their prevention in children among mothers at selected rural area,bengaluru”. The study involved Pre-Experimental design, with Random sampling method. Information was collected from 50 mothers of under-five using the structured interview schedule. STP was implemented and the post-test was conducted after 7 days. Findings related to effectiveness of structured teaching programme showed that the overall mean knowledge score in pre-test is 31.5% and in post-test 59.25% with the enhancement of 27.75% and it is significant at 5% level. The study concluded that STP was effective in improving the knowledge mothers of under-fives regarding allergic respiratory disorders and their prevention in children.

ABSTRACT - Health of the children has been considered as the vital importance to all societies because children are the basic resources for the future of human kind. Majority of child health problems are preventable. In this view the pre experimental designed one group pre and post test was conducted to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding diarrhea among mothers of under five children in Patrapalli village at V.Kota, Chittor[dist], A.P.The majority of women 31(51.70%) were belonging to the age group of 22–25 years. Among all the participants, nearly 23(38.30%) were illiterate. Most of the women. Were of lower socioeconomic status 50(83.3%) majority of mothers are getting daily wages30 (50%) and majority mothers had two children35 (58%) There is a significant effect of structured educational program. The analysis revealed that knowledge regarding diarrhea among the mothers of under five children, I compared the pretest and posttest knowledge scores among mothers the pretest mean was 8.33 with standard deviation 4.82 and the post test score mean was 25.47 with standard deviation 3.77.and ‘t’ value was 31.238.and p value was P< 0.000 level. This tells us that the posttest knowledge Scores was higher than the pretest knowledge which indicates that knowledge of mothers was improved through structured teaching program. Thus the study was concluded that the structured teaching program has effect on improving knowledge among mothers regarding diarrhea.

This study used one group pre-test post-test pre-experimental design and non- probability purposive sampling technique to select the samples. Data collected from 30 primary school teachers Madukkarai union Coimbatore. Self-Structured questionnaires were used to collect data regarding demographic variables of the respondents and knowledge and attitude regarding childhood behavioral problems. Objectives of the study were to assess the knowledge and attitude level of teachers regarding childhood behavioral problems, evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme. To associate the knowledge and attitude with their demographical variables. Conceptual framework used in this study was The Modified Ludwig Von Bertalanffy’s General System Theory (1968).The outcome measure was using a self-structured administered questionnaire. Intervention was the structured teaching program regarding the childhood behavioral problems. The results showed that the respondents gained knowledge and attitude. After the teaching, the pre-test mean score of knowledge was 17.97and post test score was 27.02and the ‘ t ‘ value is 15.052.The pre-test mean score of attitude was 70.13and post test score was 86.8 and the ‘t’ value is 11.336.There is no association of the post-test knowledge and attitude with the demographic variables.

Before conducting the study formal permission was obtained from medical director of Sakthi Hospital, Kallakurichi. The samples were selected by non probability convenient sampling technique. One group pretest and post test pre experimental design was used. Before pretest the samples were gathered between 11am-1pm at conference hall in Sakthi hospital.
