School Improvement Grant West Mecklenburg High was awarded $3,306,807 to be given out over three years through the School Improvement Grant program and has decided to use it to put the transformation model in place. A Targeted Assistance Coaching team is assigned to West Mecklenburg to provide job‐embedded coaching to raise teacher effectiveness. On the team are content coaches for literacy, math, Exceptional Children and Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol. The team also has a social worker who assists students in the McKinney‐Vento program and supports the coaching team. The team has developed a customized support plan with strategies and support to increase Algebra 1 and English 1 End‐of‐Grade pass rates and the graduation rate. The grant has also enabled the school to create an Academic Resource Lab for its Freshman Academy. A pay‐for‐performance pilot is also planned, as well as academies for freshman transition, credit recovery and summer virtual learning. A state monitoring visit in December produced favorable comments and no formal recommendations.
