Department of Pure and Applied Physics Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria Abstract: This paper presents a practical design and construction of an instrumentation system that incorporates three sections of different measuring and characterizing instruments on a single apparatus. These sections include an inductance-meter, a capacitance-meter and an I-V characteristics plotter used for testing, measuring and monitoring electronics components. This instrumentation system was constructed using a PIC 18F452 microcontroller, GLCD, LC oscillator, A/D converter, timer1 module, and a source of power. In operation, the CCP module was configured as the PWM module to generate the graded voltage used for the I-V characteristics plotting. The instrument has been successfully tested and it was able to give the I-V characteristics curve of components like resistors, light dependable resistors and diode of different kinds. In addition, the instrument was able to give the capacitance value of any capacitor and the inductance value of any inductor inserted in it for measurement or calibration. With this instrument, it is easy to measure, calibrate and evaluate I-V characteristics of capacitors, inductors, resistors and diodes before use.

PEMs are body-worn devices that are equipped with an antenna and receiver electronics to register the EMFs on body. Research has shown that PEMs may underestimate the EMFs due to the presence (shadowing) of the body [6–9]. A review of different sources of PEMs’ uncertainties can be found in [10]. Wearable personal distributed expo- sure meters (PDEs) have been demonstrated for single [8] and multi telecom- munication bands [11]. A PDE consists of multiple antennas on the body. The use of multiple locations reduces the variations on the measurements and thus the uncertainty. The necessity of using multiple locations for mm-wave per- sonal exposure assessment is shown in [12]. A similar approach is used in [13] for the 60 GHz band. Using three antennas, the 60 GHz exposure meter [13] has been calibrated on the arm of a human subject in anechoic conditions.

Design and Construction of an Infrared Laser Transmitter for a Compact Satellite Laser Ranging System

Establishing SLR can reduce the alert rate by 1 - 2 orders of magnitude. Deductive, SLR is a promising alternative to solve this problem [7]. However, a retroreflector on every single space object would facilitate and improve the quality of SLR. Ranging to objects without a reflector (uncoorperative objects) requires high pulse energies (∼ 50 mJ [2]), as only scattered light can be received on Earth. High energy Lasers constitute complete systems, as they need supplies for large cooling and power systems [8]. The low return rate of photons require a larger diameter of the receiving optics [2]. All in one, ranging to uncoorperative objects lead to a more complex SLR system set-up. This problem can be solved with a retroreflector, which is easily integrated into a satellite or rocket body, as they are light and small. This method is already successfull in use with several microsatellites, e.g. Technosat. The position determination happens with accuracy in the millimeter range [4], [2], trajectories are predicted with uncertainties of a few meters [6]. Summing up, the demand for more SLR stations rises. That’s why several stations are built up at the moment. Though, installation and operation of a ground station leads to high costs for the responsible agency, as a site for the station, high energy lasers, sensitive electronics an on-site staff are required. Nevertheless, the technical approach offers new possibilities.

The sensors are controlled using a PIC micro controller which obtains the data measured using sensors and will transmit it to the PC serially for plotting the 3D image of the object using MATLAB software. The data acquired by the IR sensor should be accurate to obtain the correct data and for that the distance is set to 5 cm. The data obtained are transmitted and plotted without any delay. The paper aims at developing a low-cost prototype of a 3 dimensional scanner, which can scan real world objects and plot it on a computer screen. This kind of scanners will be of useful in the research, design, manufacturing fields.

Micro-Raman spectroscopy has a problem of low thermal resolution. These techniques exhibit either too low temperature resolution, depend on exogenous dyes, are invasive, or must use high laser power. Therefore, there is a need for a true IR microscope with both fine thermal resolution and good spatial resolution.
