The problem with aluminum is that it is very difficult to repair and the material fatigues over time which leads to a failure in the structure. The next material would be titanium, which is as light as aluminum, as hard as steel, it is durable and resistant to corrosion, the problem is that it is the most expensive material of all due to the specialized machinery that it requires and the conditions in which the material must be maintained. Finally, we have carbon fiber, the only non-ferrous material on the list. Carbon fiber offers characteristics like other materials but at the same time has unique qualities. Like aluminum and titanium, this material is quite light, provides excellent rigidity compared to weight, is resistant to corrosion, while, on the other hand, it does not expand easily with heat, is practically never fatigued and can be molded in a variety of non-regular shapes. The problem with carbon fiber is that it is difficult to produce and repair and is susceptible to fractures [9] .

There have been widely varying opinions as to how exactly sustainability can be introduced in the design of learning environments. Recent literature (Pirage, 1994; ECE, 1996; PNWPPRC, 1999) indicates that the term encompasses more than the physical and economic aspects. It includes social, cultural and behavioral dimensions. Investigating the contemporary architectural practices however reveals that there are two major missing dimensions. On the one hand, there is an emphasis on the physical aspects that pertain to sustainable learning environments, while socio-cultural and socio-behavioral dimensions are typically oversimplified. On the other hand -- even when these physical aspects are addressed -- a heavy reliance on top-down policies and strategies usually takes place. Despite the good intentions of the guidelines resulted from these policies which aim at the betterment of learning environments they take place at the expense of other bottom-up strategies that aim at sensitizing users toward understanding the key issues underlying sustainability.

Comparative Advantages and Sustainable Development in Iranian Manufacturing Industries

his paper identifies the comparative advantage and the rank of the manufacturing industries of IRAN using traditional and environmental variables. To do so, in the first stage, manufacturing industries are ranked according to employment, value added and profitability and then air pollution indices are added into the analysis. The development levels of manufacturing industrie s are calculated using numerical taxonomy method at 2-digit industry levels. The results showed that the comparative advantage of Iranian manufacturing industries, regardless of the indices of sustainable development and when these indices are to be taken into account are distinct from each other. In the first stage, the manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products, manufacture of basic metals, manufacture of chemicals and chemical products and manufacture of food products and beverages are ranked highest in 2005 respectively. But when air pollution indices were added into the analysis, the manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products has lost its advantage. Thus, with regard to indices of sustainable development, the comparative advantage is not a sufficient indicator for ranking of industries in terms of their performance.

A sprocket or sprocket-wheel is a profile wheel with teeth, cogs, or even sprockets that mesh with a chain, track or other perforated or indented material. The name 'sprocket' applies generally to any wheel upon which are radial projections that engage a chain passing over it. It is distinguished from a gear in that sprockets are never meshed together directly, and differs from a pulley in that sprockets have teeth and pulleys are smooth. Sprockets are used in bicycles, motorcycles, cars, tracked vehicles, and other machinery to transmit rotary motion between two shafts where gears are unsuitable or to impart linear motion to a track, tape etc. Perhaps the most common form of sprocket may be found in the bicycle, in which the pedal shaft carries a large sprocket- wheel, which drives a chain, which, in turn, drives a small sprocket on the axle of the rear wheel. Early automobiles were also largely driven by sprocket and chain mechanism, a practice largely copied from bicycles. Sprockets are of various designs, a maximum of efficiency being claimed for each by its originator. Sprockets typically do not have a flange. Some sprockets used with timing belts have flanges to keep the timing belt centered. Sprockets and chains are also used for power transmission from one shaft to another where slippage is not admissible, sprocket chains being used instead of belts or ropes and sprocket-wheels instead of pulleys. They can be run at high speed and some forms of chain are so constructed as to be noiseless even at high speed. A respondent whose workshop had been forced to move two times listed the negative repercussions of working in temporary spaces: the chaos of moving, the loss of some local supporters and visitors from the immediate locality and even some volunteers. The volunteer mechanics we interviewed made it clear that to contribute to community development and social cohesion, “you must stay there, in the neighbourhood, or you lose support”. (Il faut rester à la, à la mesure du quartier, aussi non on le perd) (vandermeersch, 2015, p. 40). None of the workshops sought better premises just to expand; the quest was for stability, not profile or position. Managers were most concerned about optimising their opera- tions and placing them on a more sustainable footing over time. That said, a few wanted to expand their reach, and Papa Doula workshop has done so by setting up a second shop in a suburban location, Woluwe. The Rue voot workshop, which employs salaried mechanics and has the support of local universities, making it more “professionalised”, has evolved into a paying non-profit with usage fees. It occupies two commercial spaces, one of which is subsidised by vUB (a university) because of the high numbers of students that use it. Above all, workshops want to remain accessible to the general public and in a building that makes this possible. Workshops operate very differently from bike shops in this regard; they can get by with back street and out-of-the-way locations, and unat- tractive premises, as long as there is sufficient room to stage repair sessions and store a stock of bikes and parts.
