ABSTRACT: In this paper a thorough and detailed design is presented where a system uses a microcontroller and a digital IC temperature sensor TMP275 to measure ambient temperature. In addition, a PID controller is implemented in the firmware and PWM signals with appropriate duty cycle are generated by the microcontroller that is used to maintain and control the temperature in a ventilated chamber. The PID controller that is implemented in the microcontroller firmware ensures to get the finest response in terms of settling time and least variation from the set point. An application is developed in LABVIEW to acquire the temperature data graphically in real time. This graphical user interface (GUI) system running in the PC allows the user to set the set-point (Temperature that is to be maintained in the chamber). The Temperature Sensor TMP275 is capable to measure the temperature with a resolution of 0.0625°C (typical value) and provides accuracy of 0.5°C (typical value) and 1°C (maximum) over a range of -40°C till +125°C. The experimental results show consistently same results and shows that the system has higher reliability and precision.

This paper presented the real time DC motor speed and position control in order to know the function of PID controller as an operational amplifier. DC motor control has been used for variable speed and position applications for many decades and historically were the first choices for speed control applications requiring accurate speed control, controllable torque, reliability and simplicity . The PID controller was designed by using MATLAB/ Simulink to obtain the best coefficients that could achieve the performance requirement of the DC motor. Then, the estimated parameters was transfered to the hardware part that executed the PID controller. The graphical user interfaces (GUI) was developed using Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 to plot and monitor the system response in real time [13]. Based on the concept that showed in this paper, the output from the control system could be connected with personal computer through DAQ that showed the response of the system. In this part, analog signal from plant was converted to digital signal and transfer to personal computer to plot and analyze the response during operation . During the experiment, the PID controller corrected the error by calculating and analyzing it that resulted in increasing transient response between the command and actual movement.

This project utilizes two powerful IR transmitter and two receivers, one pair of transmitter and receiver is fixed at upside (from the train comes) at a level higher than human being in exact alignment and similarly other pair is fixed at down side of the train direction. The sensors are fixed at 5km on both sides of the gate, we call foreside sensor pair for common towards gate train, and aft side sensors for the train just Crosses the gate. When train cross the fore side sensor it gives signal to the gate receiver to close the gate. The buzzer is activated to clear the gate area for drivers about 5 seconds. Gate motor is turned on in one direction and gate is closed, and stay closed till train crosses the gate and reaches aft side sensors when aft side receiver get activated motor turns in opposite direction and gate opens and motor stops . By employing the automatic railway gate control at the level crossing the arrival of the train is detected by the sensor placed near to the gate. Hence, the time for which it is closed is less compared to the manually operated gates and also reduces the human labor. This type of gates can be employed in an unmanned level crossing where the chances of accidents are higher and reliable operation is required. Since, the operation is automatic, error due to manual operation is prevented. Automatic railway gate control is highly economical microcontroller based arrangement, designed for use in almost all the unmanned level crossings in the country.
