Web 2 0 Projects at Warwick University Library

following brief overviews cover only four of the projects that have been running since then. We have also investigated much more, including Twitter, Google Documents, wiki reading lists, You-Tube and more, but we couldn’t possibly fit it all in here. The brief articles below are just to give a taste of the kind of projects we have worked on. There are many more members of staff involved and many more web 2.0 adventures underway. . .

‘Twitter ye not?’ 23 Things that helped Warwick University Library staff to develop their Web 2 0 skills

‘Twitter ye not?’ 23 Things that helped Warwick University Library staff to develop their Web 2 0 skills

Designing a programme on the shoulders of other giants was one thing. The next was to assemble a crack team of Web 2.0 enthusiasts and bloggers to develop and deliver the programme. This was reassuringly simple because of the existing exper- tise of some of our staff. This team (of Emma, Jess Humphreys, Jenny Delasalle, Samantha Johnson, Katherine Widdows, Rachel Care and Suzanne Atkins) was essential for success. Running a 23 Things programme alone would be a massive job, but with each individual in the team taking responsibility for one week’s worth of Things it became surprisingly manageable.

(http://libraryunisza.blogspot.com/), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) library (http://usim-lib.blogspot.com/) and Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) library (http://unikllib.wordpress.com/) has created blog to provide news and events. Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) main campus library (http://perpustakaanuitm.blogspot.com/) has implemented blog to update their users on the opening hours, calendar of events and also to promote their services. Meanwhile, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) library, (http://mylibrary.unimap.edu.my/) is the only university library website that has created blog to introduce their liaison librarians (http://maziahlib.wordpress.com/). Different with Universiti Multimedia (MMU) library (http://vlib.mmu.edu.my/portal/Index.php), they created blog for posting book reviews, events, notifications and library updates. USE OF WEB 2 0 FOR CREATING SCHOLARLY COMMUNICATION BY LIBRARY PROFESSIONALS IN INDIA

Figure 8 presents that only 26% library professionals are engaged in online research collaboration. Educational benefits of online collaborative group work have been confirmed in numerous research studies. Most frequently cited advantages include the development of skills of critical thinking and problem solving as well as skills of self-reflection and co- construction of knowledge and meaning. However, the establishment and maintenance of active collaboration in online study groups is a challenging task, primarily due to librarian’s inability (e.g., owing to time constraints or lack of collaboration skills) or reluctance (e.g., due to the lack of or low participation of other group members) to participate actively in the group work. Further, it was explored that those who are using web 2.0 tools for online research collaboration were using the same to sea rch scholarly ongoing projects and to communicate with other researchers to know the advancements in the field of study.

Web 2 0 moves 2 0 quickly 2 0 wait: setting up a library Facebook presence at the University of Warwick

Web technology moves fast and we need to keep up. Facebook alone is not going to be enough to keep in touch with our digital-native users. Other current Web 2.0 developments running at War- wick library include: an iGoogle catalogue search widget; using delicious.com to direct students to subject-specific resources; use of wikis to build reading lists in collaboration with students and departmental staff; and instant messaging tools as a potential enquiry service – and this month we launched our Twitter service.

Information quality in Web 2 0

Information quality in Web 2 0

information quality criteria might be affected by the implementation of a pattern. This does mean that the pattern in question should be duly implemented and the right format should be chosen. It is also that not each pattern is applicable in each context. The specific contexts in which an implementation is feasible are documented in the ‘Context’ section of each pattern. It appears in this matrix that the Declaration of Failure is the most powerful pattern, targeting the most possible problems. This is true, but the pattern is mostly applicable in Collaborative Content Creation contexts. The Splitter pattern has a lot of possible desirable side effects, but the side effects may be achieved by various implementations. A splitting on a repository level may have positive effects on Response Time and Availability, whereas a splitting information object level may have a positive effect on Response Time and Efficiency. However, the most noted effects are Conciseness and Completeness. It is also clear that the Process-pragmatic criteria are not often the target of the patterns. This is caused by the scope of the research, which focuses on Web 2.0, while problems with Process- pragmatic information quality criteria do occur in all websites. Therefore, patterns to solve these problems are outside of the scope.

Setting research priorities to improve the health of children and young people with neurodisability : a British Academy of Childhood Disability James Lind Alliance Research Priority Setting Partnership

Setting research priorities to improve the health of children and young people with neurodisability : a British Academy of Childhood Disability James Lind Alliance Research Priority Setting Partnership

The Steering Group approved a ‘ long list ’ of research questions. The long list and a questionnaire to indicate rankings of the top 10 preferences for priorities was sent to partner organisations, and people who participated in the original survey and had provided a contact email or postal address. Returns in the interim prioritisation survey were categorised into one of the three types of stakeholders (young person or parent/carer; organisa- tions supporting families; clinicians and professional societies). The rankings were entered into a spreadsheet for analysis of the more popular prioritised questions within each stakeholder group. Each submission was scored such that a question with rank 1 was given 10 points, rank 2 had 9 points and rank points went down such that rank 10 was given 1 point. Points for each group were tallied separately; so each of the three groups ended up with its own total for each of the 53 questions. Within each group, the totals for each ques- tion were put into rank order and given a new score, from most to least popular. Where a question had not been ranked at all, it was given 0 points. Questions that had the same total were given an average score between them.

Should the goal for the treatment of soil transmitted Helminth (STH) infections be changed from morbidity control in children to community wide transmission elimination?

Should the goal for the treatment of soil transmitted Helminth (STH) infections be changed from morbidity control in children to community wide transmission elimination?

Under the pessimistic assumption that treating adults is twice as expensive as treating chil- dren (many studies reporting a much lower difference [21]), we calculate that the total costs of community-wide treatment over a 20 year period (discounting at 3% per year) are much less (approximately 60%) than that for repeated annual treatment of pre-SAC and SAC, given that the former has only to continue for three years (with the assumptions in Fig 2), while the latter must continue beyond the 20-year time horizon in hookworm transmission areas of intermedi- ate intensity (Turner et al. manuscript in preparation).
