In document Prosper 5 User's Guide (Page 152-154)

To access Help, use one of these methods:

Context-sensitive Help - While you have a software menu or dialog open, press F1 to display the associated Help topic.

NOTE: Context-sensitive Help is not available for a few Microsoft Windows dialogs. • Help Menu - Click Help on the menu bar and select Contents, Index, or Search to

display the Help system for Prosper assessment system software.

The Help Display

The Help display window is divided into two panes: Explorer View Help and Help Text. You can resize the panes by selecting and dragging the line separating them.

Explorer View Help Pane

The left side of the Help display is the Explorer View Help. The four tabs of the Explorer View Help window are Contents, Index, Search, and Favorites. These appear to the left of the Help Text pane so that you never lose your place.

Contents Tab - Click the Contents tab to open the table of contents.

• Help Contents are grouped into "books" by category. Most topics within the Help system are included in the Contents.

• Double-click on books to open them, displaying Help topic titles or additional books. You can also click on the Plus symbol beside a book to open it. • Click on topic titles to display the topics in the Help Text pane on the right. Index Tab - Click the Index tab to display a list of index entries.

• Type the word or phrase you're looking for or scroll through the list.

• Double-click on an Index entry to display the topic in the Help Text pane on the right. If more than one topic is associated with an Index entry, the Topics Found dialog is displayed where you can pick from among all of the associated topics. Search Tab - Click the Search tab to find keywords contained in Help topics.

Single Keywords - To find topics that contain a word, enter the word in the text box near the top of the Search tab and then click List Topics. A list of topic titles containing the word you entered will appear in the list box. Double-click on a title to display the topic. You can also select a title and then click the Display button to display the topic. If you type a word that is not a valid keyword, you will get a message that says, "Help cannot search for that phrase." This includes

commonly used words such as a, and, for, of, and the. Correct this by selecting a valid keyword.

Multiple Keywords - To find topics that contain several words, type the words in the text box near the top of the Search tab and then click List Topics. A list of topic titles containing the words you entered will appear in the list box. For example, a search for background form image will yield topics that contain the

Product Support and Services

words background, form, or image. If you type in a word that is not a keyword, the Help System will disregard it and complete the search using the valid keywords you entered.

Phrases - To search for phrases, type the phrase, enclosed in double quote marks, in the text box near the top of the Search tab and click List Topics. A list of topic titles containing the phrase you entered will appear in the list box. For example, a search for "background form image" will yield topics that contain the phrase background form image.

Wildcard Expressions - Use an asterisk (*) wildcard to search for multiple characters or a question mark (?) wildcard to search for single characters. For example, a search for *ware will yield topics that contain hardware, software, or both.

Boolean Operators - Use the words "and," "or," and "not" with the keywords you enter to better define your searches.

TIP: You can combine search techniques. For example, a combined keyword and Boolean search for hardware not "hardware bar code" will yield topics that contain the word hardware but not topics that contain the phrase hardware bar code.

Highlighting - The keywords you searched for will be highlighted in the Help Text pane if search highlighting is on. You can toggle search highlighting on and off by clicking Options on the menu bar and selecting Search Highlight

On/Search Highlight Off.

Favorites Tab - Click the Favorites tab to personalize and display your own list of frequently used Help topics.

• Add favorites by finding a Help topic using any of the above three methods (contents, index, or search). Once you find a topic that you would like to add to your favorites list, select it and click the Favorites tab. The topic title will display in the Current topic text box at the bottom of the pane. Click the Add button to add the topic to your favorites list. Favorites are listed in alphabetical order. • To display a topic listed in your favorites list, click the Favorites tab, select the

topic title, and then click the Display button (or simply double-click the topic title). To remove a topic title from the list, select the topic title, and then click the Remove button.
