5-9 ADDITIONAL REGULATIONS FOR THE TWO YEAR FULL TIME MASTER PROGRAMMES

a) Admissions

Admission Requirements are specified for each Master Programme and were adopted by the Senate on 25th November 2008. The Admission Requirements for 2009/20010 are available at http://www.bi.no/master.

b)

1. Admission for students with five year contracts (Advancement from bachelor to master for students in bachelor in business and economics, or bachelor in marketing management). Students need to have shown satisfactory study pro- gress in the bachelor part of the five-year programme. Satisfactory study pro- gress for admission to the master part of the programme is defined as having completed 180 ECTS credits. A candidate may be admitted to the master part of the programme with fewer ECTS credits for the bachelor part of the pro- gramme, limited upwards to 12 ECTS credits. Missing bachelor ECTS credits cannot be within the following subjects:

- For Bachelor in Business and Economics; Quantitative methods, economics, or subjects connected with the choice of major in the master part of the programme.

- For Bachelor in Marketing and Management; Quantitative methods and marketing.

2. Students with five year contracts may be given two year’s leave from studies between the bachelor and the master part of the program. This will be in addition to the permitted leave of absence provided for in §§ 2-5 and 2-6)

c) Duration of Studies

1 The Master degree is a two-year programme equivalent to 2 years of full-time study and 120 ECTS credits.

2. Extended Period of Study

Upon application students are allowed a grace period of a maximum of 12 months (2 semesters) for completion of studies after expiry of normal study, i.e. after September 1st in the second year. Students may sit for makeup examinations, or take courses in order to fulfill the degree requirement. Students may not take extra courses. For the thesis extension, please read e) Examinations and Evaluation Procedures. For any course or examination tak- en after the grace period the students will be charged a fee for renewed admission in addition to the examination fee, the fee is per semester. Students in the Master of Professional Accountancy Programme are given a grace-peri- od two academic years.

3. Deferral In exceptional cases, and upon application, a deferral of study start from one academic year to the next may be granted. If studies are not taken up after one year, a new application for admission in accordance with normal application procedures is required.

d) Degree Requirements

1. Academic Title Students who have completed 120 credits according to the degree requirements are given the right to use the Master title. The Master degree is awarded upon successful completion of a combination of required courses and the thesis. See the Student handbook for each program. The degree may be awarded with Honours to students who have attained out- standing results. Please see the Student Handbook.

2. Exemption from an examination or test/recognition of previously taken examination/test. The provisions have been laid down in pursuance with Regulations relating to Requirements for Master’s Degrees of 1 December 2005 no. 1392, Section 2, cf. Regulations relating to the Recognition of Higher Education of 10 April 2006 no. 412. See also Section 3-3 of these Regulations.

i) In consultation with the Programme Committee the Dean may issue guidelines for dealing with applications for the recognition and exemption from examination or test. Please refer to the Student Handbook.

ii) The applicant must have been admitted to the programme of which the recognition is to form a part, and the subject/topic must in scope and content cover one or more subjects/topics of the curriculum of the programme the student is attending.

CHAPTER 5 - Rules relating to Specific Programmes

It must be part of a course for which a grade is awarded; a combination of courses cannot be recognized. Moreover, requirements regarding grades for courses/examinations that are to be recognized may also be specified. iv) Requirements regarding the scope of the examination/test that recognition is applied for apply. An examination/test cannot be recognized as equal to a larger number of credits than it was originally approved for.

v) Requirements regarding the obsolescence of courses/examinations that are to be recognized may be specified.

3. Students who are admitted to the Master Programme as a part of a double degree agreement with partner institutions are given a transfer of credits according to each institution and programme agreement.

e) Examinations and Evaluation Procedures

1. Makeup Examinations Makeup examinations will only take place next time a course will be held. When course evaluation consists of class participation or process elements as a general rule, the whole course must be re-evaluated. An examination fee is charged for makeup exams in accordance with current rates. 2. Thesis

A student may appeal against the grade received for the preliminary thesis report and the thesis. Please read §3-13 ‘Justification for and appeals in connection with examinations results for more information. In case of “Fail”, the student may:

- Write a new thesis,

- Rewrite the thesis and attain a maximum grade of E. If a new thesis is writt- en in case of a ‘Fail’ each student will be charged an additional fee equal to tuition fee for one semester. If the thesis is submitted after the thesis delivery deadline each student will be charged with an extension fee of 10% of the tuition fee for one academic year. A thesis may be submitted no later than two years after the delivery deadline. After this period BI resumes no further responsibility. Exemptions from extra tuition fees may be given in extra- ordinary circumstances. Such extensions are only given by approval of the Dean and must be supported by relevant documentation.

f) Requirements for the right to use the title ‘Siviløkonom’

Students who have completed the Master of Science in Business and Economics/Master of Science in Business may have the right to use the title ’Siviløkonom’. The right to use this title will be awarded if the candidate can document the following:

• A completed MSc in Business and Economics/MSc in Business

• A completed Bachelors Degree which includes the following topics and ECTS credits completed before entrance to the Master program:

- Business Economics 30 ECTS credits

- Administration and Management 24-25 ECTS credits - Economics 15-20 ECTS credits

- Methodology 15-20 ECTS credits

In addition students may need to document further knowledge in mathematics, economics and econometrics.

g) Requirements for the right to use the title ‘Sivilmarkedsfører’

Students who have completed the Master of Science in Marketing may apply for the right to use the title “Sivilmarkedsfører”. The right to use this title will be awarded if the candidate can document the following:

• A completed MSc in Marketing

• In total 126 ECTS credits in the following areas of which at least 114 credits should be taken at the bachelor level:

- Marketing and Communication: 54 ECTS credits - Business Economics/Finance: 18 ECTS credits - Economics: 12 ECTS credits

- Methodology and Statistics: 12 ECTS credits

- Strategy, Organization and Management: 12 ECTS credits - Legal subjects: 6 ECTS credits

- Mathematics: 6 ECTS credits - Business and Society: 6 ECTS credit
