VARIABLE NAME DESCRIPTION

PUPILMATCHINGREFANONYMOUS_SPRxx Pupil matching reference: a unique number assigned by DfE to each pupil in national curriculum years above Nursery 2. In theory this number is fixed for the duration of a pupil’s education.

Therefore, if a pupil changes school (provided it is within scope i.e. not independent), name or gender the number should remain the same. In the case of school transfers a school can issue a temporary number until the original number is transferred.

Temporary numbers are identical to permanent numbers except that characters 11-13 are a two-digit serial number plus a letter (rather than a 3 digit serial number). 5

SAON_SchXX School Flat, apartment name or number or other sub-division of a dwelling

PAON_SchXX Dwelling name and/or number of school

Street_SchXX School Street name or street description that has been allocated to a street by the street naming authority

Locality_SchXX School Locality: refers to a neighborhood, suburb, district, village, estate, settlement, or parish that may form part of a town, or stand in its own right within the context of an administrative area. Where an industrial estate contains streets it is defined as a locality in its in own right.

Town_SchXX School town: The town name refers to a city or town that is not an administrative area, a suburb of an administrative area that does not form part of another town or a London district
